  • The Porsche 992 features some changes from the outgoing generation. Here are 5 things about the Porsche 992 that I think should be fixed or changed.
Now I have been daily driving my Porsche 992 Carrera for 6 months I am able to pass on 5 things I think Porsche should change or Fix. In general the 992 Carrera 2 works perfectly well but there are some points that could easily be fixed I think with a software change.
The fact that they decided to stick with the Porsche 911 historic 5 dial design for the displays bring up visible issues.
That is not the only day to day function of the Porsche 992 that is a constant issue however. As you will see in the video some of the layout including the software was not fully thought out.
These points are all in my opinion but see what you think once you see for yourself. If they were to address these small points I don't think I would really have anything to complain about.
👉 Reasons why I bought a base Carrera 2 instead of a Carrera S • Did I miss out NOT buy...
👉 How I invested the value of a 992 Carrera 2 to pay for the finance • Paying for a NEW Porsc...

I have a 992 and agree with the fuel gauge. I never know if I am running out of fuel. In fact I fill up only when the warning light goes on. Also, not having the start/stop button closer to the driver is annoying to say the least. Great video!

Thanks William! It is just those small things isn't it, but you deal with them every time you drive the car so it becomes annoying.

The dial orientation is a historic design feature of Porsche. It’s always been that way. It’s intentional. Look at past Porsche models and you’ll see.

Steve - If you switch from the “Customized” screen that shows things like the turbo boost, to the “General” screen, right at the very top you will see the fuel gauge and the miles until empty displayed (along with oil and coolant temp, etc). I was looking to display the battery voltage and I was positive I had seen it before, but the screen I was currently looking at had the turbo boost at the bottom where the voltage display use to be??...so I fooled around and clicked on the “General” screen, and there is was. At least in the North American version of the 992. So, you can display the fuel gauge (at the top) and battery voltage (at the bottom) on the screen that is NOT obstructed by the steering wheel. Hope this helps?
    Final note: This is on a 2021 992 C2S.

Hey. It is indeed at the top of the general menu. It’s just that I want to have other things in the other 3 slots so I constantly have the customised menu up. My issue is with the fact the fuel bar is not a choice on the custom menu list. There is a very long list of items there you can add including the others on the general menu but the fuel bar isn’t one of them.
But really in general you shouldn’t need the fuel up twice on the same display because one of them you can’t see easily.
Since this video they launched the GT3 and gave it a race display. I would love to be able to add that as a software upgrade!
Hope you are enjoying the C2S. Did you have to wait long for it with the current world delays?

@@Get10Yards - Yes, I had a long wait. Put a deposit down in late June of 2020, and finally took delivery in mid-May 2021. I agree that it should be easier to customize these displays. Since a lot of folks seem to be obsessed with the battery going down if not on a trickle charger...during a 2-3 week time the car is not driven, the item I want most on the display is the battery voltage...and that is shown in the “general” display, along with the fuel gauge, so that works for me. If I want to see other things, it’s easy enough to flip over to the “Customized” screen. The inability to turn off the stop/start function is a pain, but since I usually run in the “Sport” mode all the time, once in Sport mode, the stop/start function is disabled, so that is my work around until (or if) Porsche updates their software.

@@Get10Yards - regarding the back seat...For me, I see no situation that it will ever be used to transport an adult (although in a pinch, it will be better than walking, haha). I have folded down both of the back seats to make more room for stuff/luggage. I leave it in that position, for now, and have had no issues with the strap/latch to access the back. That is where my golf clubs go,.

@@dnetz2145 Really so it was nearly a year for delivery. Well it's good to hear it has arrived.
Yes actually someone else has pointed out about the battery and what he had to do to get access to it. If the battery dies you can't pop the trunk and have to work around to get it open. Fortunately I use the car every day but if I do ever park it up I will absolutely trickle charge it.
If you have the sports chrono you can set the individual setting to have the start stop off. But if you are like me with sport only yes you can do that. I still go through the routine of waiting for the system to boot so I can turn off with the button.
I am not sure they will actually do anything about it. After I read up it appears it must be on from the car starting to pass emission tests. This new go green world we live in. So we will likely always have to turn it off every time.
The sport button is good excuse to turn it off though isn't it!

@@Get10Yards - Never bough a car that I had to wait more than a month or two. I think COVID was responsible for some of the delay. Also, shortage of some electronic components, and Porsche slowing production. I also think that because I initially negotiated an extremely good deal (ie, the discount %), that I may have been bumped by by SA, in the allotment line, to customers willing to pay more, or full price? But that’s only a conjecture? I have the sport chrono package, but have found no way to permanently disable the stop/start function. If you know the steps, I’d love to hear what they are? Of all the idiosyncrasies that Porsche has, it’s how you have to gain access to the frunk if you have low voltage on your batter.y. Even 10 volts is not enough to open the frunk. Once you gain access to the inside of the car, with your key, like most normal cars, you can pop the trunk, or hood to gain access to one’s battery. For me, that seems like a fundamental thing Porsche should change.

  • @kevinmaher3709

I’ve owned a 992 since Feb, I have similar gripes. We should be able to permanently disable the Stop/Start. Why have to do it every time we start the car? It requires two steps to open/close my garage door......first press the favorite button, then touch the Homelink spot after it appears on the PCM. Silly. Also the favorite button won’t operate until the menu boots up. Also silly is waving your hand near the front crest to open the frunk. What’s the point? You can’t do that if your hands are both occupied and you still have to operate the secondary safety latch......also impossible if both hands are holding bundles.

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  3 роки тому

I wasn't even aware you could get a sensor opening latch for the front. I understand what you mean there with moving the tab to then release the hood. That is something not thought through either like some of the other things. Which I find odd considering the engineering of the rest of the car.
I did some reading around and I believe the start/stop being fixed to the on position when the car starts is tied to getting it through the regulations now, although some manufacturers I found ways around it apparently. But in cold or hot conditions it won't operate anyway so I don't really know.
I still find the favourite button pointless there is such a limit to the list and things I could do.

I had 2013 BMW 3 series which had stop/start function, asked the dealer if they can make it off by default.
the BMW dealer told no. but few years later, I found Beamercode, and used that to set the default as off. (still works, if you turn it on)
Obviously the car computer had that functionality built in, which the beamercode used.
I'm pretty sure Porsche has the same thing built in. hopefully someone will come up with something similar to Beamercode.
but BMW's are common, Porsche 911 not so much. ie, there isn't a market for it.

Yes its on the general display page if you stick to it. Then you end up with the 2 fuel gauge bars to the right of the rev. However you cant modify that general page. On the custom one it will not let you add a fuel bar if you want to have your own choices.

The dial viability issue really isn't an issue IMO. Why is awkward to tilt your head to see the two outer dials? We all tilt our heads to look in a wing mirror but that has never been an issue.

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  3 роки тому +1

I’ve got the GT wheel Rob. I literally cannot see those 2 outer dials without really moving my head not just tilting it like turning my head to see the mirrors. I would say it depends where you have the wheel and how far you sit back etc as well. It only my opinion though as I’ve never had a car where I couldn’t see the dash through the wheel. I just don’t think they thought it out. The right side changes between screens too it blocks half of every screen like the sat nav.

The stop start function is a pain, way too aggressive and comes on even when the car is cold. There are two ways that you can set this up to be disabled at start up, it can be enabled on the home screen when the car starts up and you touch the screen to turn off. Or alternatively you can set it as an individual function and it disables start/stop by turning the mode button to individual on start up.
Agree with rest of the comments apart from the seat toggle which I have never had a problem with, having to bend down to access the button to slide the seat forward is more of an issue.

@@Get10Yards You can customise the home screen that appears at start up to include the start/stop function (I also have the sports exhaust button on there). From memory there are about 4 different home screens that you can choose from and customise using the drag and drop function. The other option to disable the start/stop if you have sport chrono is to disable it through the individual settings, after switching the car on you select the individual. Altogether much easier on my previous 718 Cayman which had a physical button !
