- Brandon's best friend was in town and we made arrangements to take him on a saltwater chart out of Seward for salmon and lingcod. Well, weather happens and plans changed! The charter company called us and said the saltwater was a no-go BUT they had space available on the Kenai River. The sockeye run was hitting and we got on down to Soldotna for a short but memorable trip!

Ahh the nostalgia. Made a trip in 2016 to salmon fish and I miss it to this day. Stayed right on the Kenai in some small cabins

Was there last year, didn’t do nearly as good. Going back in July , this could be a yearly trip. Did you have just mono line on or did you have fly line
Hi, Steve! Thanks for watching and commenting. To be honest, since we were using the guide’s stuff I don’t remember, it may very well have just been mono. Best of luck in July!!
thank you for the reply. Last year we loaded fly reels with straight mono(fluorocarbon). This year I didn’t know if I was going to take off backing and fly line, kinda of a hassle
Update-we went again this year with our own gear. We used backing and mono. How did your trip go?
@@wanderblest so this year I left the fly line on and just add extra long leader of fluorocarbon line. I’m glad I did it that way cause the week we were there the salmon weren’t running. 80,000 below last year total and daily numbers as low as 2,800. By midweek I shortened the leader and started to fish for rainbows,grayling and pinks. Did well , no sockeye(can’t catch what’s not there) but caught other fish.
