Dope mic preamp!!!!! I owned it before, but I ended up selling it due to financial hardship at the time. I now own the WA12 MK2 (black). I love Warm Audio mic preamps.

Wondering this sounds vs the Warm Audio WA73. I have the 73, and LOVE IT. Tried the new MPX, no headroom whatsoever so I returned it

different flavors, this is a bit more mid focused; thick while the 73's I reach to for air and clarity. You can get some really nice bass sounds using the EQ on the 73 that the TB doesn't have. I have a pair of 73's too, they both get used equally as much.

did you notice a big difference with the swap?

Not much difference, I do think it sounds a bit clearer, but I haven't felt compelled to upgrad the other yet if that's any indication.

Hy, did u ever try to run a full mix thru those preamps?
I’m searching some feedbacks cause I was thinking to get a stereo couple for tracking and for some kinda api sound to add to the mix bus chain.

Yes I've run full mixes, I have another video where I did that, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/zvl3C5m2a94/v-deo.html

I just ordered a few days ago the WA-73EQ Neve clone model, waiting for delivery in the next few days. Do you think the Tone Beast (Black) would also be a good investment as I am considering that API clone model also. If they sound similar, I might use the money for something else I need. Any info you can offer is welcome. Thanks.

Hey! enjoy the Neve clone, that will be my next one. API seemed like the way to go for my first set of preamps in that I record a lot of guitar, bass and I was sold on the vocals using the "Tone" impedance switch and steel xfrs, I mean let's face it, the flexibility with these are crazy! Your basic API clone won't have that same flexibility and based on reviews of long time API users, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the ToneBeast to anyone (says when the tone switch is pressed inward, you're there), but I have not owned an actual API so I'm not really an experienced user either. You'll make the right call either way. Sometimes simplicity is better too, ToneBeast took me awhile to listen to the tiny details of the same sound recorded with different preamp settings but eventually you'll just know which settings to use for certain situations and you'll appreciate the options. I'm one who likes and constantly uses the flexibility.

@@patroche1266 Thanks Pat. I take delivery of the Neve clone on Weds. I will keep you posted. I think I will buy the TB12 also before that $100 rebate expires on Monday at midnight!...If you have any links to your music, I'd love to hear it. Thanks and be well.

If you want a channel strip build your own. Buy a WA12 MK2 (black) mic preamp, then purchase a lunchbox and a 500 series EQ to chain behind the mic pre. Then buy a dope compressor and your channel strip will be boss!!!! I'm my case I chain a Tonelux EQ5P surgical parametric EQ that can also be used like a Pultec my Warm Audio mic pre, then I chain an LL2A compressor limiter from Little Labs behind the EQ. Nothing beats it.

Ya know, I swapped out the X18 circuit on my original before I got the second one. The x731, and even xfmrs yes seems exact. I will say though, that the gain staging isn't a perfect match, I notice the newer one is a tad hotter than the other one, maybe 2.5 clicks of gain (have to use output gain to get an exact level match). Perhaps this is due to the different power supply, that should be about the only difference according to their specs..
