  • As always, I woke up late and it probably cost me a good bite. I walked into a smash with 2 anglers on. Well done to Shaun and his friend on landing these 2 awesome Garrick.
    Sorry about the long blank at the end everyone, for some reason my title edits were pushed further along the video and caused the blank

    Great vid - what rig do you use to catch those mullets?

      @FishingSouthAfrica  Рік тому +1

      Thank you bro! It was actually a sibiki rig that I used since I was too lazy to tie a christmas tree trace to try for live bait.

      Ay bro I'm not sure, hopefully the last rains that we had would help to clear it but I haven't heard of anything recently.

      @FishingSouthAfrica  Рік тому

      Hi bud, on the day I was there it was open and there were no smell coming from the river or discoloration on the low tide.
      However its still a problem because the pump stations are yet to be fixed

    How far do you cast when targeting garrick

    • @FishingSouthAfrica
      @FishingSouthAfrica  Рік тому

      It all depends on the day, sometimes a 20m cast can get you the bite and other days, which are rare, you may need a 120m cast.

    So sad to see the amount of filth at Blue Lagoon. Surely the fishermen in that area can show some respect for cleanliness and nature. No matter how good the catch, the filth will last longer than the memory.

    • @FishingSouthAfrica
      @FishingSouthAfrica  Рік тому

      That is the unfortunate truth Gavin, the fishing can be epic there but the amount of litter on the rocks is definetly an eye sore.

  • @laurialanthwaite3428
    @laurialanthwaite3428 Рік тому +3

    I’m looking at all of the litter and not the fish - pretty disgusting

    • @FishingSouthAfrica
      @FishingSouthAfrica  Рік тому

      Yes unfortunately Blue Lagoon is like that 99% of the time due to all the dirt that comes out of the Umgeni during heavy rains and gets washed between the rocks. Its also unfortunate that all the beaches get cleaned but the rocks don't - the municipality has a lot more going on though in terms of the e coli contamination everywhere😔

      @@FishingSouthAfrica Most of the rubbish between the rocks aren't from the rivers, that's all from people just leaving their trash behind after a days fishing. Go and have a look at 03:30, you can't tell me that is rubbish that has washed up onto the rocks. Also, go and look at 09:40 how the guy just throws the line on the rocks without even thinking twice about it. Unfortunately with a mentality like that, where we always blame someone else (Municipality in this case), all the fishing spots will go to shit. And this is not directed at you whatsoever, just us fisherman in general.

    • @FishingSouthAfrica
      @FishingSouthAfrica  Рік тому

      @Jean, I 100% agree with you in terms of fisherman not cleaning up after themselves. A beach or rock becomes a pig sty after a decent shad run with everyone leaving bait boxes, empty cotton and line everywhere. When most of the time a bin is not 100m away... Maybe I'm being idealistic but personally I'd like to believe that a lot of fisherman are now realizing what their actions are doing to the environment and are changing their ways. It will definitely take a long time and there will always be a few bad apples but hopefully things change and we can get the other beachfront piers open again.

      @@FishingSouthAfrica Bullshit, the rains have nothing to do with the filth on the rocks. What the hell is wrong with Blue Lagoon anglers ??? That place is rotten.

    • @FishingSouthAfrica
      @FishingSouthAfrica  Рік тому

      Hi Gavin, at the time of recording the video we did have some rain. I do agree with you though, as good as the fishing can be there the amount of filth all around the rocks is an eye sore. I however would not blame the locals as I've personally seen them clean there own area. Due to it being a "hotspot" many people fish there and as with most rocky areas on the south coast, after a good shad run, the rock turns into a pigsty.
