- SCP-682 is a KETER class anomaly also known as Hard to Destroy Reptile.
SCP 682 is a large, vaguely reptile-like creature of unknown origin. It appears to be extremely intelligent, and has been observed to have extremely high strength, speed, and reflexes, though exact levels vary with its form. In case of containment breach, SCP682 is to be tracked and re-captured by all available Mobile Task Forces.

I've never understood how they were able to get 682 to "participate" in these experiments, so my current theory is that 682 finds something akin to enjoyment whenever the researchers fail to kill him (also, he gets to kill some of them as a bonus) and that's why he goes along with these.
Some are unwilling, but yes, 682 does seem to enjoy a challenge.
In many interviews, most of his hatred of the foundation doesn't stem from the termination attempts, but simply their arrogance and disgusting living existance.

I think that the reason the nerfing gun just made SCP-682 stronger was because it makes things "worse", and a more powerful 682 would certainly be even worse than how it already is.
There was also a time where the foundation put SCP-173 in 682’s containment cell. SCP-682 appeared to be scared, then it mutated and developed six eyes just to keep looking at 173.
And when the guards were ordered to shoot out the eyes, it developed like hundreds with a thin clear bullet proof shield covering each eye

682, for a creature so prone to change and evolve, seems so unchanging mentally.
Always rushing to kill, reacting rather than thinking things through. On one hand this means no deception through false friendship or long term planning.
On the other hand it makes me wonder if the right mental attacks could force his adaptation to change his personality. Maybe with a multiprong approach such as combining the effort with amnestics.
SCP-682 is the definition of "what doesn't kill me, only makes me stronger."
SCP-682's most powerful adaption I can recall was a theoretical one: there is an SCP (can't remember which) that comes up with failing ways to neutralise other anomalies, and then states the aftermath. For 682 it said to fly it to Mars and then send all the nukes at its face. The aftermath was that 0.003 milligrammes of 682's blood survived, adapted from the radiation and SCP 682 grew to the size of Saturn and ate the Earth.
well... that did happen. long time ago, SCP foundation asked me to use my tardis' paradox cube to see what would happen if that event was happened. considering me; A Keter Class SCP 10***, was bored, i allowed them to use SCP 10***-A. and well... that happened

iirc 682 was made as a blockade for Scp submissions to stop people from making badly written scp that are described as "OMG it's so powerful it one shot 682 and is like the strongest thing ever" and it worked to a degree back in the old days, now we just have a hundred of hyperversal/omnipotent beings that still cant manage to put 682 down for good.
682 is just straight up immortal. It can be contained, but not killed. The funny thing is if the termination attempt just kills, 682 usually just does something unexpected like making friends with the other anomaly (yes this has actually happened, the foundation were really pissed about that one)
All these attempts and yet they didn't use the strongest force.

I notice you always depict 682 in its half-dissolved state, even when it's not in the acid. I know this is the image accompanying the SCP-682 article, but supposedly when not harmed 682 looks like a healthy (albeit enormous) reptile.

What about an encounter with the cosmic Deer ? Surely it would get rid of 682 if threatened by it.
Or 682 would replicate its abilities. Or create an effect similar to the ritual being used to contain the Deer.
Of course, that's assuming releasing the Deer from its containment is even worth it. Even if it could curbstomp 682, this is a creature that could easily end the world. One the Foundation barely contained the first time and may not contain again.
Or it could simply convince the deer the rituals don't work.
Scp 682 adapt the presence of scp 3125 that can erase you for the entire narrative of the scp wiki he manage to adapt it and start erasing things out of existence so the deer won't win.
Scp682 defies all laws and reallity and he also can insanely adapt to this abillities also because he defies the laws(And if you didnt know there is a lot of laws in the scp verse so you can actually scale him to the outerversal category in a way)
Keep in mind guys....682 could not adapt new powers from the Gate Guardian's sword...it could only survive with its leg left while shooting blasphemy.
Its possible it was shouting blasphemy to conceptionally weaken Gate Guardian's blade by a smidge. It didn't gain ice or fire or flaming sword powers either.

In other words, it can't uno reverse card everything, sometimes it just manages to survive.

the one with 3930 is actually kinda interesting. if you think about it, 682 basically became a pattern screamer through the thoughts and memories of all the people who knew of it, and then since it adapts to any terrible situation, it adapted to being a pattern screamer, and then existed again.

Multiple tests have showed that tissue sample of 682 would loose it's invulnerability once separated from the body, so I suggest cutting 682 to prices and THEN using different anomalies such as the Nerfing Gun
Hmm maybe it work, but it's been probing only very tiny tissue seem to "dead" so it take a litteral a million paper cuts to make into a a bunch of tiny pieces that are "dead"
But how much ammo does the gun have, the only way to kill it is to alter reality and just remove it. If there was way to do that, the power to edit reality but there must be consequences for that, right?

My head cannon is that they are changing the chemical makeup of the acid so he cannot adapt to it
@@sbeveloaf1120 My theory is that the adaptation 682 has to acid is more focused on entering a hibernation to survive, rather than an agressive adaptation.
My evidence for this is that when amnestics were introduced into 682's acid tank, it actually started to dissolve, leading the researchers to theorize that the amnestics were hindering 682's adapablity.

@@sbeveloaf1120 Correct. The acid isn't enough to kill him even without his powers so it doesn't give him crazy strong adaptation.
The acid is there to keep him at suboptimal strength, his reneration and adaptation vs the acid balancing out to keep him below 100%
Perhaps if we expose 682 to 999 for longer periods of time, a few hours a day for months on end, and given what we've seen with 999 interacting with other humans and a previous cross test, this could perhaps make 682 docile.

The problem is well...not only does any separation time result in death of guards...they don't know what would happen next.
It should be impossible for 682 to bond with a breathing creature, but it does with 053. Even if we consider his internal monologue about relating to 053 because she's a hated being as well, his emotional shift is baffling.
His friendship with 079 is obvious. 079 is not a living creature, hates humans like he does, and since artificial, doesn't have the "disgusting" concept of HOPE, the thing rejected that made the Foundation evil and act like 682 during the SCP 5000 end of the world scenario.
But Abby is human. Anomolous, but human. 682 shows empathy and gentleness around her. What is 682 evolving into when around her? Something better, or something more powerful?
In one revised-story, a what-if tale, they try having 053 and 682 around more, and 682 turns into a FAR more powerful version of himself PERMANENTLY and becomes the Steed of Death.
682 no longer has the Scarlet King's hate for all life setting in his brain, but he also says the apocalypse has been triggered, and he and 053 fly off.
682 is my favorite SCP! I love that angry reptile!

I still think strapping it on one of the rockets used to see 184's effect on the universe and have it self destruct would be a goof choice. Clearly those rockets used to observe 184's universal effects goes faster than the speed of light, so have it to far far away and explode, it won't kill 682, but he'll be gone for a while

You could put 682 battling one anomaly, but when 682 adapts to that anomaly, put it with a different anomaly. So basically if you keep shifting the circumtances 682 is in, maybe you could eventually kill him.

What if you put all of them in at the same time
the thing is, you really don't need overpowered scps to stop scp 682. you just need to constantly keep him on his toes w/ new attacks. keep him from adapting by rapidly changing the environment. these tests always involve trying to one shot him, but that's just not gonna work. you need to do a bunch of damage from a bunch of different attacks that scp 682 wouldn't have enough time to adapt to.

I like to imagine that SCP-166 occasionally asks to visit SCP-682 to see if she can grow a little garden on him again.
With the test that they did that made it into some chunks on the floor, I say do that again, and with the little chunks that are left put those in a little bowl of scp-682 killer from the drink machine, that way there's nothing for him to regenerate from since that part seems to completely destroy him
I like SCP 682. It's just a classic and to see how the Foundation can't get rid of it, is very funny. They did really their best.

Here’s a good way to deal with 682, split 682 into 7 pieces, and place each body piece on each continent so it can’t regenerate its whole body

When the Reluctant Dimension Hopper took off with 682, it came back with a worse version. Not as bad as when the Nerfing Gun hit it though

My theory is that, that dimension of 682 was just him adapting and transporting himself to the normal scp dimension. Therefore making it seem like he was "killed"
I feel like the only way to truly get rid of 682 is by getting rid of it the same way another super adapting being was, by sending it to the end of time. Even if it somehow managed to adapt there wouldn't be anything or anyone left for 682 to destroy.

And I know the Foundation is all about containment, but they're usually about protecting too and clearly are willing to forego that with this SCP. Maybe they should just invest in trying to get it as far away from our earth as possible?

I remember when it was mentioned that SCP-682 regenerated itself from its' mere atoms, so therefore, I propose repeating the same effective destruction methods and then destroying it even further on a molecular and atomic level by de-atomizing it, thus hopefully putting it to rest officially.

What if they cut each limb off and put them in separate 5 inch thick steel boxes with no room to grow and fill the extra space in each box with the acid that is already in it’s cell. Would that keep it from regenerated and finally have it fully contained?
It may end up essentially becoming 5 of each as well it seams like the reptile evolves if its in really extream and near death situations so the acid contains it only because its strong enought to damage it but weak enought to keep it from evolving, its only my theory tho. But either way you prop whould end up with severall versions of it running around

I never read about scp myself so im curious... when 682 mutates how does he go to his normal form again? Is the mutation just tenporary? Or did noone think of that
It’s temporary.
My theory is that he adapts and mutates when he is in danger or when he's being killed. After a while he isn't being killed anymore and the adaptation ends because it's unnecessary.
depends on the canon, most treat it as temporary adaptations which is why the acid bath can contain it
I like to think that 682 can switch from its normal form to any mutation
I still think the pattern screamers couldn't stand 682 and send it back to the foundation rather than 682 mutated back into existence.

I know how to once and for all deal with SCP-682. It's simple really. When SCP-001 The Black Moon destroys everything and the administrator defeats him, just have it so that when the administrator re-creates the universe SCP-682 never even existed. It's that simple.

I like the implementation that, making 682 "better" made it worse for the foundation, thus it was still "making it a worse version"

It truely amazes me how they have never tried to lead scp 682 into “o’ death” (where anything living thing that walks through it kills whatever is in the universe on the other side) and send in a dc with a bomb in their neck afterwards and detonate the bomb
The issue with that is that isn't how it works. It instead just killed everything in the universe it's in and if someone leaves said universe that universe will also be all dead
