I'm NI dominant and today at lunch in college I was sitting with a group of people in my year and I was observing how people were interacting and I was having many thoughts (as I always do). There are a few people who just yap away without thinking, and they come across as really sociable. I thought, "I wonder if I can make myself talk and talk without it being meaningful to me, like the others do". So I decided to try and make myself talk more, I thought I could easily manipulate my own nature since I'm FE. But to my surprise, I couldn't let myself say something unless it felt like a valuable input. It just felt too stupid to let anything come out of my mouth. So I went back to observing and giving my own input from time to time. People like me anyway and appreciate it whenever I do say something so I don't need to try and act differently. :)

As I have Fi in my stack when I say something that doesn't fit my values I feel guilt and must apologize for it. It is rather painful to violate this. I am surprised to watch people speak in dis-authentic ways as for me it would be unbearable yet they live that way. I wonder if they know they are lying to themselves. They seem to get by this way, its very puzzling.

@@talielnussen3867 When I meditate yes. I enter the state of consciousness I call "The Observer". Lately I can do this at times without meditation though it is rare. I wondered if that is my first glimpse into Ni. It happened last week with my therapist for a brief period. I would like to gain mastery over Fi as it has caused me to suffer recently.

That's very interesting. As an Ne dominant I have the opposite problem. I have so many ideas in my head I have to make it a habit of not blurring it out. To me, there is a connection to the matter at hand, but to another person it can sound like random idiocy. In both cases it seems that our Fi tells us what is of social value to say out loud.

I'm Ne auxiliary and love talking about nonsense, saying random things and doing absurd connections. I don't do it often though, since I'm an introvert.

    Another way to think about
    Ni vs Ne:
Ni: Keeps on collecting data to summarize and capture the gist of a concept.
Ne: Has a more playful approach. Gathers data (both styles gather data as they are perceiving functions) and figures out various possible gists, thus keeping them quite open minded. They use their Si for reference and Ti to reach an actual destination.
Ni reaches destination and uses Se to gather information and Te to explain it.
I have found that Ne users tend to be more experimental (hence playful) whereas Ni users tend to be more decisive. Ni users also tend to feel uneasy if they can't summarize a concept simply it's downright disturbing for us (especially Ni doms).
Ne users are usually not bothered to be so decisive 'I am going to test this theory and then finalize'
Ni-'This is it. I am going to use it and thus prove it.'
Note- The Ni user isn't necessarily confident rather has an intense attitude towards their ideas.

Being an INTJ my Ni is usually caught in between this drama that you have just explained about Fi and Te.
I let go of a project under the influence of my Fi because I believe it had a hint of corruption in it. My Te had to reason with Fi for days to come to a win win situation. I didn’t leave the job but I’ve asked my boss explicitly to never get myself involved in any project that I felt was wrong morally.

omg I wish there were more videos like this!!! I've been studying MBTI for nearly a year now, and as much as I understood the theory and succeeded to apply it into my reality (analysing people around me), I always felt like there was something missing to me. Something out of the all abstract concepts that people always use to explaing the functions and types. I searched and searched for a video where there were concrete examples of usage of each function and came across to this one, and it´s SOOOO useful. Thank you.

When you talked about how Ni makes connections but at a deeper sense that needs a surface-level connection it made me think of how its counterpart, Ne, would be helpful because Ne can see connections in things with ease.

Well done Ren! ♡Thank you for providing me with the word "structure" when explaining Ni. I get frustrated when trying to convey a message and transposing it into that surface attachement so others understand. In my circle, I can often tell within minutes that someone is Ni or Ne because Ne's really do skim the surface and bounce about, while Ni's go deep...and not in a mean way, but I often get to feeling like I'm hanging on a fan blade while talking to people. 😂

INFJ here. Using my Ni I would the most important 1 or 2 things to get results depending on the pattern I have analysed. I give the explanation later, if needed.
I notice Ne users ENTP ( my mom) and ENFP ( my son and my best friend) give me 6 to 10 options / steps / rules to follow , if I want whatever. Some of them are things they have tried others are ideas / assumptions/ expectations. There is not a pattern (as I think of it ) but they notice the past and project into the future. As they age the accuracy increases. Some of the results of their Ne are worth trying. It is like what if I do this and see what is gonna happen. A nice brain storming. An Ni users find a pragmatic gem or two amongst the 10 ideas. It is worth listening.

Good vid. I think Se tends to take action quickly. I get this strong physical presence from them. They are very much in here and now. Se can be explorative and playful but in a different way than Ne. Se explores the physical presence... Hiking, long drives, food, sex, hands on crafts etc. Ne explores the abstract.. Creative ideas, playing with the ideas of others etc. An ENTP may go hiking but I think playing with ideas excites them more.
I was thinking about how I game. I think with a new game, I do use Ni more at first in exploring the surroundings and seeing patterns. Then I speed things up and go into automatic pilot with bit of Se. I think less and just do quickly in the moment.
Si users can be so meticulous in the details and enjoy it. I'm impressed by it when someone types out a very detailed report with footnotes, sources, bullet points etc. I can do it but I dread it and would want to bang my head against a wall if I had to do that all day. With genealogy research, I enjoy investigating data and learning more about culture, peoples' experiences etc but dislike organizing my info into typing details with sources etc. I like working with numbers tho.

Great video, with lots of good insights. I especially enjoyed the last bit about Ni and how you were talking about getting a feel for something before focusing in on what needs to get done/be said, etc. As an INFJ who has been through many job transitions lately, I have really noticed how I like to get a feel for a new environment for a while before I feel I can accomplish things efficiently; however, once I have enough things figured out, I make rapid progress in my performance.
This could be perceived as lacking confidence, being a slow learner, not "getting on board", etc. (Maybe some, maybe none of these, to whatever degree, according to the situation!) However, more importantly, I am getting the lay of the land, as well as using my "down time" to integrate information I am gathering, before I feel that I have a good sense of what is going on in a workplace.
    Thanks!

Great explanation! I most closely align to your Fi friend when it comes to values. It can be very bothersome to me when I see people acting in a way that does not align with my core values. If I were a part of that project, I would want to make sure everything was done right, morally, following the law, and not deceptive. I value openness, honesty, helping people, etc. I wouldn't focus so much on "Does it work?" but more so on, "Is it fair/just?"
    .
As for the observing functions, based on your descriptions, I most closely align to your Ne friend. Lol! When I am dating someone I am always thinking ahead of things to do, things to happen. For example, "Oh! This trip to India during this festival would be really fun, or maybe we can take a boat tour along the river and visit a beer garden, or go to this cheese festival and try all these cheeses." I get these thoughts in my head and very few of them ever become realized, but it is just this idealized state in my head of what could be, what could happen. Then of course reality hits home and none of it happens, but it doesn't really bother me because I already have 20 other ideas in my head.
    .
How would I know if I am Fi>Ne or Ne>Fi? Is it just based on which I take priority more?

When you talked about the video game example I was thinking about me and my husband 😂 (I'm an ENTP and he's an INFJ)
He recently started playing a game called Grounded. Just a quick recap, it's a bunch of kids who shrink to about 10 cms and they're now surviving in the backyard of one of them. They have bugs to worry about and they can build their house, etc. It's basically a survival game. And you have missions to do in the game. First time my husband was playing, he kept exploring going from one place to another, and he was confused about some things and I kept telling him "well you have missions to do. Do them first and then maybe you'll understand them." He did the missions... 2 days later after I kept telling him to do them 😂 But even now, he spends a lot more time exploring the map than doing the missions. And then he complains how he can't do this or that. "That's bcs you need to do the missions to earn science points. With science points is how you can move forward with the game," I tell him. I kinda just learned how to go with it now, but he barely moved forward with the game. He built a big house... I would play with him, but for now the game is only for online multiplayer, not local. Let's hope in the future we can both play the game 🤭

Very informative Ren. I've typed as an INFJ, but also type as an INTJ. Watching your videos and studying the cognitive functions, I think I'm more INTJ. It confused me because I felt like I'm a little bit of both. I can read people like a book and can take on a friend's emotion if they are going through a hardship, but when it comes to projects or work, I'm very systematic in my approach. I look for ways to make things efficient and I can problem solve really well. When it comes to learning something new, I learn it super quick. Its like I can filter out what doesn't apply for what I need to know. I guess the feeling part confuses me. I did work a lot in retail over the years so maybe that kind developed my Fi? When it comes to work, I don't let people's emotions get in the way of making something run more efficient. If what they are doing isn't working, I will be quick to move them to another task regardless of how they feel about it. Does this sound more INTJ to you?

    • @EDventureous
      @EDventureous 4 роки тому

You are an INFJ, not INTJ. Easiest way to distinguish between those two types is their relation to emotions. INFJ is very aware of other's emotional states (while not that aware of their own). INTJ on the other hand has not only introverted feeling child but extroverted thinking trickster. This means INTJ's are childishly aware of their own emotions while nearly oblivious to the emotional state of others. INFJ's on the other hand easily mirror others emotions (Fe), and that Fe parent helps Introverted Thinking child speak logic in an emotionally responsible way.
Both think in systems. There are many INFJ computer programmers out there. As an INFJ who troubleshoots technology I would say others find me very logical and understanding of process. And in the largest scale, INFJ's are society's social troubleshooters. Those like Martin Luther King Jr or Ghandi with few words broke the illusions holding broken systems together and helped foster new ones. Again, they inject thinking into the broken emotions of society in a way they are able to receive.
What helped me understand this is watching CS Joseph's videos. Possibly start by watching his INFJ and INTJ videos. Specifically the Hero-Parent-Child-Inferior relationships in the functional stack (the whiteboard he holds up). Hope this helps!

    Hi Ren,
I test INFJ and can relate to 99% of INFJ experiences (not saying a 100% because I also question the validity of my judgement).
I'd like you to clarify something for me.
Though I mostly prefer to look at the bigger picture, I also find myself at occasions when I get disarrayed emotionally at individual injustices when I think those injustices are abhorrent or done with malice. And I respond lively because I think person's action violate my morality. For instance, I attend college lectures where people are more or less tolerant, and I express disagreement with the points teacher presents for the audience. I believe that if I stay silent, people will be misinformed and I don't want anyone to walk in a lie. It causes disapproval of some in the audience with my behavior, but I feel like it is my duty to speak the truth.
Does it mean I have a high Fi?
    Thank you.
