Hello Suj, A very cool Pergola. An even better look and ease of use with polycarbonate. good renovation. Nice montage. The richness of details was wonderful. Thanks for sharing. All the best. Kind regards. Your friend Mehmet
I watched the others while planning my pergola. Because of Covid etc, that has not moved forward yet, but with this, it adds a whole new dimension to it. Great detail thank you.
Wow mate that was so professionally done. Probably better than a professional. Looks so clean and amazing, outstanding work. However I would have sent my wife up there to do the work….😂
Haha, 😆😂. I know receiving life insurance payout is a great thing! 😛. And Harki, thanks for the professional look comment. I try my best (and hide the rest) 😁
Hey, long time, Rob. 😁 yes, it's kind of slightly complex, and that's why it took so long for me to bite the bullet, lol. Hope things are all going well 👍
Thank u very much for sharing this indepth video! I am trying to build a simple patio cover with polycarbonate sheet roofing. I am just not sure which type of polycarbonate sheet wud be ideal as theres few types like clear, grey, multiwall, white etc. May i know what type is yours. I am after the one that gives enough shade when the summer heat is fully on but is not too dark on gloomy days as I will mostly be chilling on it when its nice and hot. Which type wud u recommend. Thank u in advance.
Hi Subash, mine is 10mm bronze colour twin-walled polycarbonate sheet. I think the details is there in the video description. I think personally the bronze colour is great, but it is yet to see its first summer, haha. and good luck with your build as well. 👍
I bet you've saved a packet Suj but that is a BIG job. You've done an epic job and keeping the snow off your pièce de résistance is certainly worth it :D
Haha, thanks a lot, James 😁. I know what you mean. That whole pergola did cost a packet on the raw materials. But yes, labour was free 🙄 😂. But it's a good piece of head turning outdoor 'furniture'
This is a great video Suj. I have a question about how you handle flashing where the polycarbonate panels meet the wall? Thank you very much for you advice. Long
Hi Long, it's there in the video itself. Because it's a critical part, I have shown it in 2 separate sections. Is there a specific question on flashing?
@@SujMenon I watched the video from the beginning to end and found all answers. The video is very clear and detailed. You did a really great job Suj!!! Every step is carefully handled and recorded. Again, thank you very much!!!
Hi, I’m building a pergola mainly to put my garden furniture underneath for the winter 19ft by 11ft. I’ve got quotes of polycarbonate roofing costing around £500 altogether. So I’ve thought to make a wooden roof with a felt sheet which is much cheaper. Would you recommend this method?
Frankly, I don't see any issues in using felt roof. Infact garden sheds here all have felt roofs., ie to be precise: OSB3 roof with felt on top, and they last for years.
@Heavenseventeen yes it was. First I cleared the bricks with a wet rag, and then applied bitumen paint for that tackiness. Else, the flashing tape might just stick to dust on the bricks, and fall off 😁
Hello, why did you use smaller sheets? I would like to cover a similar area as you but planning to use a 2.1x3 (X2). Are there any disadvantages in doing this? If my idea is ok, do I need to screw in the middle of each sheets to add more support without adding rafter support?
Cost wise, I think 600 mm was slightly cheaper. I debated about getting a bigger sheet, but then went for smaller because of the way I did the flashing. With a 2m wide sheet, I assumed it would be difficult to do it in the way I did it. If that's not apblm, then go for the bigger sheet. 2 screws is enough to hold it in place, whether it's 600mm or 2m
Considering the sides of my pergola are open, all noises will still come through. If you are looking to cover a conservatory or covered structure, 35mm will definitely give better noise isolation from the outside world as it has 3-4 layers inside.
Looks great Suj. I'm in the process of getting a similar pergola installed but not sure what colour and thickness of polycarbonate to go for. How did you decide this and what did you go for?
Hi Vishal, colour is a personal choice. Among the 3 available at the time: transparent, white and bronze tint, I went for the bronze tint as I thought it looks best. But then again its an individual choice. For thickness, I spoke to the agent at the glazing shop, and she said for an outside setup like mine, 10mm is more than enough. So that's what I went with. As you probably know, with the increased thickness, the cost of the sheets and other accessories will also go up. And since my pergola is open to the elements, there is no need for thermal efficiency retention etc, which you would get with increased thickness.
Your attention to detail is admirable!
Thanks Ian 👍 😊
Wow! Thanks for such a well-explained process. So many people whizz past all the little details that you need to know, and so you fail. Great work!
You are so welcome! I was worried the edit would be boring with all the smaller details, haha 😄
Loved the straw on the handheld vacuum
Cheers 👍😁
just a terrific job on this pergola roofing and attention to detail was amazing you should be very proud of your self
Thank you so much 😀 👍
This is an excellent guide. The best I've seen.
Wow, thanks! 🙏👍

Hey, thanks Paul for that 👍 😀
Great addition to the pergola, nice job!
Thanks, John. I am sure in summer it would be useful (at the least for drying clothes 😆)
Polycarbonate is very useful for roofing, this also my plan to put in swing and pergola.thanks for video
Glad you like it. Yes, polycarbonate sheets do look modern and sleek 👍. good luck with your build
Looks good. I love the "hammer drill" 😂

nice. thanks for the materials list.
Thanks, glad it was useful 👍 😀. I would update the list with some more smaller items like shims etc
far out Suj, it's way more complex that you would think but it looks great - really nice home improvement mate!

Yes absolutely yes yes very good made where

Hello, question do you know if they ship to USA? New York
Don't think so, but you should have plenty of options in US. Don't think it will be economical to get this from the UK
How noisy is it? I am a bit worried about noise. Do you think that installing 35mm policarbonate would make it less noisier?
Considering the sides of my pergola are open, all noises will still come through. If you are looking to cover a conservatory or covered structure, 35mm will definitely give better noise isolation from the outside world as it has 3-4 layers inside.
@@SujMenon what about from the house? Mine would be on same side as the bedroom so I am a bit worried that I won't be able to sleep when raining.
Well tbh, it will have the sound when it rains. But it's a pleasant one ☺️. Personally, I don't think it will affect too much

How’s this holding up after hurricane Darragh
No issues, still standing 😁👍
Where did you get your polycarbonate?
Links on the description. Thanks 👍
From where you bought the polycarbonate and what's the size? I mean 10,16,24,36 ?
Hey bud, it is there in the description. UK website: theglazingshop.co.uk
10mm Polycarbonate Sheets / Tint Bronze / Length (mm) 2700 x Width (mm) 587
wHY CANT i SAVE THIS VIDEO TO MY FAVORITES TO FIND LATER??
Thank you!
thanks for watching mate. Not sure, maybe just some temporary UA-cam glitch
Those "Core Flute" panels will fill up with mound within weeks, and you will have to clean and disinfect them every year.
True that. I can see it on one of the panels, where moisture got in.
ol
Hmmm....you are anally retentive.....I like it...!
Haha, thanks mate 😆
Very over engineered, you could land a jumbo jet on that roof
lol. thanks 😀
great job. I use my hammer drill like that too 🤣
Right on, haha 😁
