'You don't get the charm of an old house without the mess of an old house.' Words to live by.
I love the message of this video! So many people rip out kitchens that are perfectly fine, and it's so wasteful.
Old house fan here. I agree that an old farmhouse deserves an old style kitchen, and yours has an Aga and a wood stove! Immensely charming! 🌻
We are so lucky!
@@MadeleineOlivia your house is such an inspiration! I love old Georgian stone homes, and the stone fireplace surround with the Aga is so picture perfect and charming ❤. Such a beautiful, unique historic detail that’s to die for imo. I’m an American and homes here often don’t have the wealth of historical details that British homes do. Much love from Chicago!
My comfort youtuber As Always Madeleine♥️♥️
I loved that section on the affordable living/work project. I worked in affordable housing for years and it remains a big interest of mine. We have a housing crisis in Canada right now. Sounds like Cornwall is doing a great job addressing a variety of needs/issues. Congratulations!
Hello! Possible book recommendation for you and others interested in this: Homesick - Why I live in a shed, by Catrina Davies. It is a personal account of the housing crisis in the UK and it‘s even taking place in Cornwall. I‘m reading it right now and I‘m really enjoying it :)
Good morning! Stoked to have my tea and watch Madeleine ❤ Have a great day everyone
Thank you, I m enjoying my tea with the video as well. Have a wonderful day.
For those of us who don’t live in England is M&S Marks and Spenser.
Love this vlog, we have housing problems in Australia and it’s great to see social housing being included in a sustainable way. Lovely to see you all enjoying some outdoor living too!
Your videos are my Sunday treat Madeleine. I loved all your renovation tips, but I what loved equally was your visit to the sustainable event in Cornwall. I would love to see more events like this and what you take away for your personal life! I want to try to incorporate them in my home and spaces. Much love from Germany!!
What a lovely outing at the seaside community! Thank you for bringing us along, such a great community. ❤
Here in my US area we pour the paint out on a tarp with dirt on it. Once the paint is dry it isn't toxic as it is sold.
There’s a company called yes paints that do their paint in recyclable plastic bags. So much less waste! Worth having a look at..
I mean yes colours! Not yes paints
We have a paint company in Leeds that sell recycled paint. It’s cheap and they mix colours.
You are, as usual, a breath of fresh air! Your content is entertaining and informative. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Thank you so much!
Nice to see that you are getting some sunshine in the UK. Loved seeing Roxie enjoy your new cushions.☀
I liked your music choice in this video. The colourful houses are so pretty.
As always beautiful video.💜 Great ideas. Love your kitchen. It's very charming.
So true about the disruptions involved. We renovated recently and were surprised at the toll it takes. Builders seem to want to start at 8am and finish around 4pm. Not to mention the noise of drills and hammers for months, boots marching through your house and dealing with unexpected expenses along the way. But it’s worth it when it’s finished. Love your vlogs and look forward to seeing them.
Hi Madeleine! I really loved to learn more about the sustainable community and neighbourhood! Very interesting! Had some difficulty (as a Portuguese living in Portugal) to understand how to write Newquay and Nansledan 😅 but hopefully I managed to do so and the project I found is the right one. I think it was very nice that you accepted to talk about it. I always watch your videos and really liked it :) have a nice week! Thank you!
Another lovely video Maddy, just what was required after a bit of a day at work. Helped me switch off & relax, thank you. Those sweet houses in Newquay, what a wonderful development. The colours were beautiful 🩵💗💛 Wishing you, Alex and Roxie a lovely Bank Holiday weekend. Karen xxx
Hi Madeline. I agree we moved to Somerset (forever home) we were 63 and 67 spent all our time there renovating building When this was all done realised a 5 and a half drive to see our daught was no longer possible also the very big garden so moved house,1 year living with said daughter Luckily we found a bungalow that we liked but back to square 1 and another reno it has certainly put a strain on us and badley effected my metal heath and physically zi am burnt out feel all of my 76 years x
Thoroughly enjoyed, what a great, helpful and informative vlog, thank you both loved the q&A whilst in the garden x
Really enjoy your videos. So much work ,the shed looks really good. Talking about what to do with leftover paint. I keep mine in a box and use for touch ups,you showed spots on walls and cabinets where paint is coming off we all have that. If you save your leftover paint you have the exact matching paint stored away to use. I have to say your niece what a cutie.
There’s a company called yes colours that do their paint in recyclable plastic bags, so much less waste, really worth looking at!
My bf’s mum has an old farmhouse (parts of the house are medieval so very very old) and she installed a modern white marble kitchen. It hurt my heart.
Hi Maddie love old houses. They have more character and history. Thank you for a lovely video ❤
They’re so full of history!
Hi, have you heard of the prosperity paint hub? Also known as Community repaint? They take leftover paint etc and resell it at a low price to anyone who needs it. They have or did have a shop in Truro.
Lovely newsy vlog .Your community seems quite young and busy which is super for you and Alex.So many village places are lacking in young folkies . Lovely to see the real Cornwall.I can envisage you Maddie as a local councillor at some point. You would be so amazing for your community.😄🎉
Such a lovely vlog you look so pretty 💗 happy birthday to little sunshine
That pink is a great color for you!
Thank you!
Love the excursion. Great Intel.
Most of all, Alex is hilarious !!!!!
Happy spring everybody🌷🪻🌻
Hehe thank you!
the jeans look great!!
Maddie! I really enjoyed this vid! Really seemed natural and the share of Cornwall was something I most enjoyed. I’m from OHIO Originally, but grew up in Tx. My spousal unit and I are planning A trip , which includes we would like to visit Cornwall, Scotland, and Ireland. ❤❤ PS you looked great in your new Levi’s. I’m a jeans and T girl too, Gen X 😎.
i love the conversation with alex......tell alex to join you in every video!
You’re such a pretty girl with and without makeup ❤️
yay maddie!
Maddie, you are one of the most beautiful humans I’ve ever seen!
Dearest Maddie,
Please put priority on your guttering. Water will destroy a home and cause massive issues. For example, worst case scenario you could have to replace a stone wall on your house and the inner walls; best case you must repoint the stone. Also consider stripping the paint on the stone. Many people painted stone before understanding that stones and mortar must breathe and without it the stone will crumble to dust. You and Alex have such an unbelievably gorgeous home and hopefully by taking care of these important things you will watch over it for many years to come ❤️
It is our priority! The work you’re talking about though will cost 10s of thousands of pounds, so we will need to save for it! We will get there ❤️
I love this
Your home is so lovely :) curious what your plans are with the bathtub that's been in your dressing room for a few years :D
btw in your clothing vlog recently, I think we missed on your Pyjamas. Would still love to see if you feel like sharing. Thank you!
Thank you Alex for answering my paint question! I was curious what is done in the UK as where I live in Canada I think our recycling programs could improve. I'll have to see if there is a place that you can bring unused paint for other people to use. I have a 3/4 full can because I made a mistake in what I chose. Will definitely be more careful on my next purchase.
Fellow Canadian here - most provinces have paint exchanges or paint recycling events where you drop off unused/sealed/labelled cans of paint for a second life! search specific to your province and you should find one :)
Get some roller catches for your cabinet doors they are brilliant I had the same issue. So frustrating
6:18 you look marvellous!
Love ur content just can’t watch for almost a hour!!!
Sorry about that! Maybe watch in pieces, or tune in for the next shorter video!
How many Huel t-shirts does Alex have? lol🤣
why dont you have join option for your channel
you are always very kind, taking care of our earth. by the way, I'd like to know: how many percentages of families in the UK cannot afford a property in 2024?
10% of the contract price is typically held back until the contractor finishes all the work. I wonder if you could do some of the carpentry yourself! we believe in you.
What size is your kitchen?
Take the lid off the paint can and let the paint dry up then dispose in regular trash
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
low income housing that isnt basically a tiny MDF box part of a million squished identical mdf boxes? proof it can be done!
Poor things, they are closed
Seemed to be everything but the home tour I was hoping for. lol
You look like the woman is the painting next to you in the room 😊😊
Replacing the windows did not require permission in this case? Not sure if it is listed building. I happen to live in listed building and can say goodbye to chance for double glazed windows…😢 which for me is hard to understand why people that live in building are less important than original windows that are not up to modern building standards and not energy efficient.
AS I KNOW YOU TALK THE ENVIRONMENT. I DO TO.... I LOVE YOU AND YOUR CHANNEL. WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY IS WITH LOVE AND RESPECT. BY THE WAY THE LIL GIRL IS ADORABLE. NIECE YES NO ....CUTE AS A BUTTON. I USE CAPITALS...SO NOT YELLING BECAUSE I HAVE M.S. MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. IT GAVE ME OPTIC NEURITIS....VISION ISS
VISION ISSUES...SO CAPITALS IT IS.
I AM ALSO FOR NOT ONLY ENVIRONMENT.
BUT WITH THAT TO STOP THESE ZOOS AND PLACES THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE ANIMALS MAMMALS FOR THE REASONS THAT I AM AGAINST. THEY ARE NOT PETS THEY SHOULD BE FREE.
THESE SEALS ARE WORKING FOR THEIR MEAL
THEY ALSO ARE TAKEN HAVE MEDICATION IN THESE FISH THAT ARE NOT NATURAL FOR THEIR BODIES. THEY ARE NOT IN RIGHT TEMP WATER AND THEIR IS CHLORINE IN IT. THEY HAVE SCARS ON THEIR UNDERSIDE TRYING TO DIVE AS THEY NORMALLY WOULD. THEY CHEW ON THE CEMENT AS THEY ARE BORED. THEY ARE SEPARATED FROM THEIR MOTHERS TOO SOON AND THEIR FAMILIES AS THEY USUALLY STAY TOGETHER. THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WATER IS WRONG AND AND CHLORINE HURTS THEIR BODY AND DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. PAYING FOR THIS PLACE OR SEAWORLD OR ZOOS OR STREET SIDE ZOO IS CONTRIBUTING TO THESE PLACES . BY NOT VISITING THESE PLACES WILL STOP THEM FROM UNNATURAL BREEDING CATCHING BABIES IN THE OCEAN. WE MUST GATHER TOGETHER TO BAN PRACTICE OF VISITING AND PAYING THESE PLACES FROM HORRIBLE TREATMENT TO ANIMALS AND MAMMALS. AND OVER TIME THEY WILL HAVE TO SHUT DOWN.
MEAN WHILE PROTEST THESE PLACES BY WRITING LETTERS TO YOUR AUTHORITY OR VOTES. THANK YOU FOR READING.
LET THEM FREE AND LET THEM HUNT FOR THEIR OWN FISH AND DIVE AND SWIM HAPPILY.
LOVE BLESSINGS KATHLEEN
I DID NOT SWEAR OR YELL I SPOKE HEART.
AND THEIR ARE HUNDRED THOUSANDS THAT FEEL THE SAME WAY THROUGH GREENPEACE

please increase fps of your video, iambored with cinematic view, you cando it with help of ai if your camera does not allow but please increase fps it looks more beautiful!
I am curious though why talking about the price of a house is a taboo in the UK. Not even exact but a range. I get English people’s stiffness but genuinely why is that something not appropriate to ask? Because it gives too much insight into someone’s wealth? Or is it just because it is on YT so public/in front of others?
Honestly because people watching will find some way to use it against me!
@@MadeleineOlivia sorry to hear you had such experiences, of course you know reality of this place better as a content creator, altho the community on this channel seems very positive overall. Then it wouldn't be better to just skip the question entirely rather than read it and laugh it off? If I was the person asking that I would feel probably embarrassed of myself by that reaction, but maybe that person should be? Overall a very nice and informative episode!
@@kasiapetruk6730hi I can speak for Italy because it's the place where I am from and where I live.. people here would find that question rather personal and intrusive and would probably react the same way as Maddie and Alex did..the same when people ask about salary or income, we don't like to share this kind of information.. Brits are similar in this respect (my hubby is from England 😅)
@@kasiapetruk6730 I don't think you intended to, but your second response is why she doesn't want to answer questions like that - it's the unnecessary critique (I realise I'm saying it as I am unnecessarily critiquing you). And I don't know if it was a typo saying she should be embarrassed?
@@mollyb8136 I was not talking about Maddie, but I said that if I was the person that asked the question about house price I would probably feel embarrassed of myself for asking it if someone laughed it off.
I didn’t click to see some person do their toilet and put their makeup on
Currently in the middle of a whole renovation of a log cabin we just bought and my mental health has been struggling because of it.
Thank you so much for speaking about that. So many people don’t realize. 🫶🏼
I know this is weird but I’m so jealous of Uk refrigerators. I hate American fridges and it’s not like I don’t appreciate having cold food storage but I’m resentful that we don’t have BOTH. I need a smaller, not so deep and not so wide refrigerator for my itty bitty kitchen in my 100+year old house. I don’t want to have to wait to open the refrigerator until my husband moves out from in front of the oven 😂
