I lost all my 85 lbs during my teen years. I don't see an issue with it if you do it properly.
I was 235 lbs at 13 years old and my parents weren't helping me lose weight (hence why I was so big to begin with) so I started being more active, cooked my own meals around 16 years old, and ate smaller portions without restricting too much. I think we have to give some adolescence credit, some are smart enough to eat intuitively (esp. if they get help for it) it IS possible

This is probably going to get lost in the comments but I feel that it's important to share for any other teens watching. I'm one of those people who regularly skipped meals in favor of snacks, but instead of leading to cravings, it led to me severely undereating. I never felt anything was wrong until I ended up in the hospital with a low heart rate. It turns out I didn't go through puberty (I still don't have my period at 16) and my heart didn't gain the strength it should have. Even though you "feel fine", there could be something seriously wrong. Please take care to eat enough food.

I completely stopped puberty and growing in my teens due to an eating disorder, so I know how much this sucks. Food is so so important when you're still a teenager. I'm basically stuck at 5'4" for the rest of my life, which is the height I was at 12 years old. I hate this so much. I also didn't get my first (ever) period until the age of 22. That's how messed up my hormones were. But it also goes to show how amazing your body is at repairing itself if you're treating it right and giving it time

I remember being a teen and all of a sudden being afraid to let my peers see what I was actually eating. I would skip lunch on school days and just sit and talk with my friends in the cafeteria because I thought it was “cool” to not eat. No idea why, but it was some weird badge of honor, like “I’m too cool to eat.” Then I would go home and eat normally. Hopefully that’s what is happening in Caroline’s newer video - she’s just trying to make it look like she eats nothing, but off camera she eats like she did in the first video. Peer pressure for teen girls is very strange.

My 2nd group of friends were too cool to eat, i hated it bcuz i would be hungry 😤 then i decided that I even tho I wanted to spend time with both groups, i wanted to eat everyday too lol! In the end, i decided to eat lunch with my group 1, then the days i wanted to be with group 2, i would go with group 1 to eat. Sadly later found out a friend in my group 2 had an ED :/

    TW: eating disorder
Seeing her newest What I Eat in a Day, makes me feel sad or worried. When I was her age, 16/17, I was in the throws of an eating disorder. I hid it from my family by being vegetarian. I ate pretty much like her, super small amounts but also used laxatives. I was tired and constantly sick and I was also extremely depressed. I remember finally having a light bulb moment during the summer before my senior year, without the stress of school and "friends", that I was feeling MUCH better once I ate a balanced diet. I could go swim and play outside all day, slept great, and felt emotionally stable for the first time ever. I really worry about her mindset right now, why has the change happened? What is she feeling that she thinks she needs to restrict like that? She seems like a bright and shining young lady and she deserves the best for herself. Sending lots of love from Kansas to anyone who may need it right now

Hey Samantha! As someone who has dealt with an eating disorder (from a males perspective). I can see were your coming from. However, I also believe that everyone needs different fuel for their body. At times now from recovery (I’m 15), I sometimes want other things that certain day or other times I may want to eat other foods. We’re all different and sometimes at times now I have become gluten free and sugar free for my own preference. I love food and don’t have those thoughts as before the others may disagree. I’m more happy now with myself and I am feeling the best I’ve ever felt :))

I do it, I usually avoid chips, crackers, candy and cereal isles but if I want chips I look at the back and can usually find one that has no sugar but taste good, same thing for crackers. No way your going to find sugar free cereal of course. And as long as you eat healthy savory food it’s quite easy. Vegetables, cheese, protein. It’s not that bad...

Honestly, the having snacks instead of meals was definitely me during senior year of high school. I would go to the library and not eat due to poor mental health and none of my friends were in the cafeteria. When people found out, I remember feeling so embarrassed. My English teacher told me I was like a kitten and kittens need to eat and gave me apples everyday and my best friend would ensure I got cereal and a snack cake. Looking back on that now, it is saddening but honestly, I love them so much for caring for me and as a future teacher, I hope to show that care just as much as he did. Love the video!

I also do Mezze platters with pita, hummus, tzatziki, cucumber, tomato and tabouleh. It’s an easy lunch to throw together and the ingredients last for a couple meals .

Hi Abby! I love your videos, idk if you done this yet but a video on handling digestive mobility issues I think would be super awesome. I know many friends that have to handle the issues related to being told high fiber whenever they go to doctors but that is the opposite of what they should do with these issues. Putting this out there as I think your platform is great and could help many other people from this pain caused from high fiber diets with GI mobility issues.

I’m not a teen anymore, but up until kinda recently I found myself having days like her newest video regularly because I was straight up too lazy to get up and eat. It wasn’t to follow diet culture or anything but rather just... inconvenient to eat?? I’ve gotten into the routine of making a good, filling breakfast and find that it really helps to kickstart a positive food mindset for the rest of the day. I really wish socmed influencers would prioritize promoting positive relationships with foods rather than “do this to look like me” bc I really think that’s a huge part of a modern teen’s life, especially since now everything has moved online

This is so good, thank you! My disordered eating started as a teen: making lunch at home to appease mom, and then throwing it out at school. Our whole friend group was influenced by our anorexic friend who said "well... I have this disease because I don't want to look like you." So I ate nothing during the day, while biking 22km a day to get to school and back! Now 12 years later, I'm still a mess when it comes to my body and eating. Cultivating a healthy relationship with food as a teen is ESSENTIAL!

To my young ladies, young gentlemen, and non-binary teens, PLEASE do not restrict. When I was a teen, I developed a pretty bad complex around eating in front of my dad. He meant well, but his comments on how much I ate/my size did not motivate me to work out, it made me scared of food. So, I wouldn't eat if he was home. I distinctly remember my mom walking in on me consuming half a loaf of bread, crying, because I couldn't stop eating it. My body was crying for energy and cheap white bread was the easiest, cheapest source. Enjoy ALL food in moderation, go wild sometimes, don't count ANYTHING. Just enjoy your food and don't feel pressured to conform to any standard. Also, I love snack meals and if you do too, start having "hors d'oeuvres" meals. Meat, cheese, crackers, nuts, and fruits but in the quantity that makes up a meal. I would take saltines and make 20-ish peanut butter jelly crackers instead of a sandwich because crackers tasted better. 🤷🏾‍♀️If you feel out of control when eating, reach out to a trusted adult and don't back down till you get the help you need. You deserve to be happy and healthy. ❤️

I starved myself so much as a teen that I'm still trying to fix my relationship with food now even in my 30s. One of the comments is similar to what I used to do, but it was in middle school and it was a little different. At school, all of my "friends" would skip lunch and breakfast. They all were copying each others behavior and try to one up each other. This led to me physically starving during lunch and breakfast, and I was so physically uncomfortable it felt like my stomach was eating itself inside out. As a result, I went home and constantly was looking for sugary, carb filled foods that would fulfill my cravings. It led to weight gain, making my own self esteem go lower and lower and I began to see how much skinnier my friends were than me. I was constantly lethargic, tired, and in a bad mood.

Sometimes I got lucky and my mum made some chicken wings. I didn't think about nutrition at all and luckily I didn't have any issues with my weight. Though I am not a teen anymore, the skipping meals thing is soooo true. When I was in high school, I would have to get up so early to go to school sometimes I would just have a piece of fruit for breakfast and almost always skip lunch meals and go to the library to study or just have a granola bar or pb&j for lunch. I had no money to buy food from the surrounding restaurants/grocery stores (we had off-campus lunch) and public school lunches were always super gross and processed to me. It was more absent-mindedness honestly than trying to restrict or be on a diet. Luckily, I quickly realized I was not eating enough and when I became a vegetarian as a sophomore I started to cook a lot more for myself and meal prep. It helped me be more mindful of my hunger and now I enjoy cooking for myself and know how to make a balanced meal.
