Goose died when he ejected into the canopy at full speed instead of open air. Broke his neck on impact. Lost control when the jet exhaust from Ice plane Intrupted the air into rt engine. The F14 was known for spinning as engines are so far apart. This is why on F18 the engines are together in the middle
1. An old shipmate of mine was on the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men and the men working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. The officer(Goose) is the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) radar, communications and navigation. 8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space. 9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano" She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood(not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV. 12. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder". It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seems like they were practicing. Better yet, it has a plot/mission. (besides Navy recruitment).
Goose's death was Goose's fault. The risk of the RIO striking the canopy on ejection was very real and known about, to the point that the ejection procedure was written to avoid it. The canopy should be jettisoned and then the RIO should command eject both crew members. If Goose had followed that procedure he'd have been fine. It's the third grievous error Goose commits in barely an hour of screen time. First, he prats around with a polaroid camera instead of using the high-quality camera he was issued with to get intelligence photos of the plane no-one's been that close to, and then he lets Jester get behind them while they're chasing Viper - in a dogfight like that, keeping their six clear is part of his job.
Played by Tim Robbins (surprised he could fit IN the cockpit - the man stands 6-ft 5-inches tall) ... Val Kilmer is 6-ft tall... Tom Cruise is listed at 5-ft 7-inches (although I've met the man & he's probably closer to 5' 6")
@@TaraTunesIn Yeah it does. I should clarify the the RIO is not a trained pilot. They don't know how to fly the jet. Sometimes a person wants to be an aviator but does not qualify for the job, but are offered the position of RIO
Great reaction girl. I was 14 years old when this came out so it was 36 years till we got the sequel. (well worth the wait) So happy you did enjoy this movie and I am going to predict you will love Top Gun: Maverick. Thank you again and be well. 😀
I saw you did this reaction!!!! So, I rushed home, putting countless peoples lives at risk and committing about 100 felony traffic violations to tell you I love your reactions!!! Hold on, the police are here.....
"I Love the Smell of Burning Jet Fuel in the Morning!"😎❤🔥 I hope You enjoyed this one Tara, and whatever You've heard about the Sequel...believe Me when I tell you this much, "Top Gun: Maverick" is Beyond Better than the Original in Every Way Possible!!✌
Please get to Top Gun: Maverick right away! Tara, they weren't in regular school at the beginning. They were on active duty and faced down a threat from Soviet-made enemy planes. From the moment Maverick appears on screen riding his motorcycle for the first time, until after graduation when the words INDIAN OCEAN appear, they're all at Top Gun school. But they were already among the best fighter pilots in the Navy; Top Gun trains them to be the best of the best.
I keep hearing that maybe there were more than one pair made...but I'd rather believe that His Wife wanted Maverick to hold onto them instead, for as long as he needed to.
Callsigns are based on some mistake you do in flight school, an embarrassing personal trait, or a bastardization of your name. Your sister earned her callsign Wheezy from her Grandpa wheezes. Since you are an unabashed Canadian, I think you should get a Canadian callsign. Aboot.
OK... we had a poll for what Jen's callsign should be... (there was some disagreement, of course...).. Now we need to come up with one for Tara! How about "Reactor" with a big radiation symbol on your flight helmet? ☢
@@TaraTunesIn Hey Tara, if you've never seen "The Guardian" from '06, then you should definitely add that movie to Your List...because it's 100% dedicated to the Coast Guard!

@Tara Tunes In each branch has pride about these distinctions... Old joke: How to Secure a Building: U S Army - The Army would secure a building by locking all doors, put bars on the windows, and establish one entrance with a guard post and armed guards and carefully check the IDs of all personnel who try to enter. U S Navy - The Navy would secure a building by swabbing all decks, turn off all coffee pots, turn off all lights, lock all office doors, and lock all entrances as they leave the building. U S Marines - The Marines would secure a building by assaulting it with a combined arms team, breaking into all interior rooms, shooting all resistance, and planting demolition charges as they evacuate in an orderly manner. They would then level the building to prevent further enemy use. U S Air Force - The Air Force would secure a building by having the Base Contracting Officer negotiate a three-year lease with a option to purchase.
A chick flick disguised as a D-flick. Lots of guys flying around in airplanes, but the rest of the movie is just sweaty dudes with their shirts off trying to fish off the company pier. The reason going below the hard deck is such a big deal is because the hard deck represents the ground in training. Going below it means you crashed.

In the 80's, I either wanted to become a fighter pilot or a Jedi knight. I became a programmer. I love my job, but I wish I had a lightsaber...
Tom cruise is simply AMAZING!!!
Notice the Captain was the same actor as Principal in Back To The Future
Anyone that Fails to notice that is a "Slacker" too! (LOL)

Now for the sequel reaction. 😀
And I'm down with Reactor for the callsign too. 😀
Awesome, caught the premiere this time. Great movie, Tara. We're all strapped in. 👍✌❤
Thanks so much for coming!!!
You should check out Hot Shots! now that you've seen this one.
I know its meant to be a symbolic gesture, but I always thought the dog tags should go to Goose's wife instead of Maverick throwing them in the ocean.

Navy pilots. Not air force pilots. Air Force gets to land on solid ground. Navy pilots have to land on moving aircraft carriers.
