- Take spin in a 1980s classic BMW with me. The '86 635CSi (not restored) with the manual transmission. Not everyones cup of tea but a car I have always wanted to get my sticky hands on.
Luv it! My uncle had an 1986 635 csi in red! Awesome audio system ! Soo sleek! He let me drive it when I was 16! What a thrill! It was an automatic! Thanks for the memories!
one of the best cars ever made !
A 635 CSI was my first ever car! I had an employer who said “you buy the car, we pay the petrol”. So naturally I hunted for the biggest engine I could afford! I found one of the last of the line which at that point was 12 years old. I loved the car but it eventually broke on me and I couldn’t afford to keep running it. Wonderful machine though. Great memories.
One of my favorite BMW autos....Nothing like the 635 CSI.
So happy to see the love & appreciation for the E24 remains alive and well. I almost sold mine recently, but changed my mind shortly before listing it. I will probably never sell it. Please do buy one if you so desire. You will not be disappointed my friends. Cheers! 🍻
Your passion and enthusiasm for this car is just overflowing - good to see. Those back seats, they look like something out of a 1970's London club - Awesome.
The BMW 635csi is an absolutely superb model.
beautiful car, one of the all time greats
great vid and personal impression of a beautiful classic, Nick. thanks
Nothing beats taking this car up past 80 mph and hearing it really purr
From an era when cars, and BMW cars, were special! These are becoming rarer by the day!! Thanks for sharing.
I had a Euro M635CSi. The previous owner had a Euro spec 1993 M5, M38 3.8 liter 340 hp. The head was reworked ported and polished race head with stainless steel valves with 3 angle valves. It had Schrick road racing cams. It had a custom header 3 into 1 with a custom 3” diameter exhaust system. It also had a Gettrag dog leg 5-speed gearbox with 5 th gear being 1:1 direct drive. The differential had 3.73:1 gears with limited slip. I had it dyno’d and it had 375 hp at the rear wheels! It really shocked many M3’s and M5’s. Top speed was 165 mph at 6,800 rpm and it pulled like a freight train all the way to 6,800 rpm. I regret selling that automobile!
I'm only 8 years late watching this video Nick - can't understand how I missed it. Bought a 1986 635CSi here in the UK back in March. 1 owner car with a full main dealer BMW service history and 72000 miles from new. Got it up on the ramp at my mate's garage and it's solid underneath (e24s had a bit of a reputation for the old 'tin-worm'). Mechanically solid, got all the fluids changed and renewed the brakes (it didn't have much left in that department...). Interior is practically untouched and it drives like it should. It's a 4-speed switchable auto, which I actually prefer since it's a 'cruiser' rather than an out-and-out sports car (unlike my 1996 993 Carrera 2). Joy of joys, even my wife 'quite likes it' , comfortable, quiet, big boot. Happy wife, happy life! Going to take it up to North Yorkshire in a couple of weeks to give it a good blast over the moors (cue Kate Bush and 'Wuthering Heights'..). Keep up the good work mate, we're looking forward to going back to NZ next year for a little trip in a campervan (RV in the states), love the scenery, the beer and the uncrowded roads. Cheers from a rather wet Otford, Kent, UK.
Great to see your channel growing in variety day by day... great stuff as always....
Thanks!
lol, I just bought one this morning
I used to see 635csi racing, what a car absolutely awesome shape, material and engine! Thanks for posting Nick.
I had a 1983 633 CSI manual trans. Was a great car and always got compliments from people. Gosh I loved that thing.
The Breakfast Club model!
I have an '85 535i e28 thats pushing 324,000 miles but I've always loved these E24's. I've luckily seen a couple restored ones at local car shows that just blow me away. Nice review Nick.
Yes the M30 engines in these things go forever
Nick Murray No kidding , my m30b32 in my 633CSi Has 468k km and still going strong!
I own a 320d from 2007 and I honestly just want to sell it to buy this beauty. Absolutely the most awesome BMW ever made. Nothing too crazy and slick as hell.
I fell in love with this car after Moonlighting! Beauty!!!
Another solid review and video nick! I could feel your excitement and happiness beaming through my screen! Made me smile! Great job buddy.
BMW 635 CSi has always been my favorite car. A beauty and a design marvel. I really never watch cars on youtube, but thanks to Nick I am getting into this. Thank you for a real insight to an original conditioned car. BMW were feinsmeckers, and still are. I never owned a car, other than a 'Beetle' for two months twenty years ago. I am riding my bicycle where ever. But I would love to own a BMW 635 CSi. Wow...imagine that! ; )
My Dad owns A 633csi and a 635csi he loves them so much lol. I LOVE TO SEE THESE IN UA-cam
Thanks for that, the lines of that model are gorgeous. I have lusted after one myself.
Love your reviews Nick! keep em coming. Had an English imported 635 but died a slow death due to salt on English roads. Fell in loved with them running around the Australian race tracks in JPS guise during the eighties. So now restoring another 635 at present. Awesome cars.
Thanks for the video Nick, made my decision easier in buying one. Now I'm proud owner of a 83' 635 CSi in polaris metallic. Don't regret it a single moment
Hettec Components I know this comment was nine months ago, but how’s the reliability?
NIck you helped me with making a decision. Now I bought a 83' 635 CSI and it's fantastic. Great to drive, it almost feels like a modern car, but with the spirit of the 80s. Thank you!
Always admired that model. Love the color scheme you have there with that deep blue, gold wheels and light tan interior,
Im writing this down now. One day i will have one. No doubts on that.
Hi Nick...Another Great Review...I agree the 1980s' BMW 6 series were special cars and very advance for for the time!! Keep up the great review!!!
Such a cool find! It's interesting that you mention the smell of the car because I notice the same myself when I get into a car. The all have their own unique smells to them! Great job, as always, my friend!
Mine wss an 81, I loved how it hugged the road. It was fun while it lasted.
Love all of your videos Nick. You do a tremendous job. I started on your BMW M4 first impressions video and like that you are doing older collectible classic car reviews.
+Karlis Rubenis Thank you
I agree with you nick I love the shape of the car too
Another great video, Nick. I love all your videos; excellent commentary and production quality. I bought one of these about a year ago in the states, 79' 633CSi euro spec. I have an '07 M6 so I was hoping to eventually own all the generations. Anyway, if you decide to get an E24 some day, I implore you to buy one manufactured as close to 1989 as possible to prevent the electrical phantoms and carburetor problems I encountered.
How I love this front end profile !
Ah, that M30 sounds good!
I was excited to learn that you're a huge fan of these old BMWs, I had a huge smile on my face when you were describing what it feels like to drive them. Now I just want to work on my E30!
I was an E30 owner at first and i loved that car, but once I got my hands on my 1980 635csi, i completely changed. Although it's auto (because Manual is as hard to find as unicorns), it gets such a nice kick when flooring it on high speed roads here in Sydney for a 3 speed car
excellent nick, love the quality of your videos, and I am always pleasantly surprised when I see a new video from you! I look forward to what you will be doing in the future!
Im not exactly one to drive a very nice car, as I am a student who is just getting by, but my interest in cars is great!
Keep it up!
What a fantastic car! The looks are amazing! :)
Love these reviews Nick! I'v been watching since you did that Mac Pro review many years ago. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing what's next.
Thanks!
Nick Murray So many YT channels are slick and over-produced...I enjoy your "just a bloke that loves cars" feel. Good camera work, interesting commentary, and it feels genuine (because it is). Keep it up.
beautiful classic bmw! my old boss had a 635 stolen from him..sad story he really loved that car! anyway great review Mr Murray! (as usual). I'm glad there are other bmw enthusiasts out there who share the same passion and interest in bmw vehicles ! keep up the great vids! -Mark
My grandfather had one of these and I'm hoping to get it. Does anyone have any more tips on how to deal with upkeep and making sure it stays nice? They would be much appreciated. The car has a great sentimental value to me.
Paid in Full.
A man after my own heart Nick - Growing up in the 80s in NZ, if you looked beyond the V8 Holden's etc these and the 3 series BMWs were the aspirational cars to have! I remember watching the E30 M3s dominate the Wellington Street race (Nissan Mobil 500?), beating cars with twice the displacement - been obsessed with BMW's ever since.
Last year I finally saved enough for a 335i - not quite as nice as your M4, but plenty fast enough for me!
Enjoy your vids, keep them up.
The most famous E24 owner I can recall was Cliff Barnes, portrayed by Ken Kencherval in the TV Series 'Dallas'.
Where bobby Ewing drove a Mercedes SLC and J.R some American iron, Cliff Barnes' choice of an E24 635CSi as his mode of transport reflected the car's status fitting with that of the young, successful and dynamic lawyer.
And talking of lawyers, I am in the process of buying my lawyer's late husband's car; a 1986 ultra low mileage I owner since new 635CSi to add to the E30 M3 Evo2 which I have owned since new.
i have literally the exact 86 635csi manual in same interior and bpdy paint. i matched the black bumbpers to the same blue, bc coilovers, and custom 3pc wheels, custom wood steering wheel
The ONLY BMW I ever *loved* !!
Did you see te M4 greeted the 6series when you drove by? Impossible to fake the happiness you felt in this video, haha! Another great video from you
i agree BMW and mercedes has a distinct smell
Yes they defintely do
I really loved watching your video.
GORGEOUS car it is!
Your big smile is telling me how good it is :)
Front lumbar Nick? Lumbar is the lower back, which does not exist on the legs :). It's called the thigh support.
Love your passion Nick. Great videos, keep them coming !
Perfect intro music 😭
I love those 80's vintage BMW's also. My Dad had a 1982 E28 528e, then a 1985 E28 535i. The 535i was an absolute blast with the 5 speed and posi rear end. In 3rd gear it would pull from 40 km/hr to about 130km/hr and on to a top speed of 210 km/hr. ERR, so I've been told :-P One night I surprised the hell out of an IROC Z28, LOL
My dream car was a 1988 E28 M5, but they are extremely rare, especially now. Only 50 were sold in Canada.
Anyway, great video as always :-)
My first car was an 85' 635csi, bronze with tan interior. $3,500 in 1998. Worst day ever was having to sell it because it needed an Inspection and an about to be college kid couldn't afford the $300 EACH Metric Tires it needed. I wish I could have kept it.
Nick you need to buy one of these. You seem to have more fun making this video than any of your previous ones.
Hey Nick, after spending the last half hour watching your E30 and now the E24, I'D like to express my gratitude for you sharing your experience with the rest of us, I really enjoyed watching these old machines perform - there is some relaxed ambiance about driving/owning these older models.
Seeing that I've grown up in the 90's, my favorite BMW is the E39 which I'd love to purchase in mint condition after university will finally be over. This brings me to the question whether you'd be interested in reviewing one- provided you find a nice model?
cheers
David
David Singer Yes I have a friend in the UK with a E39 M5. I like that shape and of course it being the first M5 to hit the 400hp mark it is pretty special. The only down side is that they don't feel that fast even though they are, the S62 did not have a lot of torque so for such a big car it never really presses you back into the seat like you think it would. I would love to find a E28 M5 as well.
What a great car. Bmw's from that period allow a remarkable interaction with the road, even the 3 or 5 series...the way the chassis read the road and the feel they provide trough the seat and the steering it's amazing. The engine note's great and Aesthetically wise that 6 it's one of the beautiful cars ever...Totality get your enthusiasm! Great review!
Dário Barreiro Thank you
Amazing car ! Love love love your reviews Nick ! Now do an E36 M3 :)))
Thank you my friend! The trick is to find a Euro spec E36 M3 over here!
@@NickMurray I have one in NZ next time you home you can drive it
I always find the music at the start of Nick's reviews hilarious lol
HAH! I love you! Also, I share your love of the 6-series.That one is beautiful, and it brings out memories of the first 6 that had me completely smitten. If you want to review the current iteration, I'll hand over my 650i, which gets me excited every time I see it.
Wow those seats are hammered.
MrNuggetface Those seats have seen some action.
Nice Video, Nick. I'm German and this is one of the dream cars of my youth. And yes, in Germany this car look much better than in the U.S. and our streets are not so monotonius. If you ever come to Germany near Cologne or to the North for driving on our "Autobahn" or the legendary "Nürburgring", tell me. I can offer you an apartment here or a house at the Northcoast, perhaps with some connections to nice cars here.
Now that, sir, is a car!
Finally! You review a decent car.
My dad had one of these when we lived in the UK. Beautiful car and I Can't wait to own one myself. The US spec bumpers ruin them though.
E24 is one of the most beautifull BMWs ever made, but american bumpers are so ugly...OMG how could they do such horendous thing to such a beautifull car...
TheBimmerfan I think it was American car regulations at the time.
Hey Nick! Any thoughts on the Alpina 6 series from this period? I've spotted a few of them around my area and have been in love with them ever since.
So envious! I want one!
Great review as always Nick. Those old E24s are really beautiful cars and synonymous with the 80s. I drive one of the current 6ers the F13 which I think has retained some of the heritage of its illustrious lineage. Would love to try an E24 myself one day to see how they compare.
Interesting you mention the rear windows on the coupé. I think as recently as the E46 coupé the rear windows opened (albeit in the horizontal (and very slightly) rather than the vertical). It's a little bit sad that BMW no longer has this feature on their coupés.
Looking forward to your next video. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. Yes shame they no longer have that feature!
Damn Nick, this is the most happy I've seen you!
I like older cars much more than newer cars!
Nick Murray Which begs the question...why did you buy the M4 ? :D
Perfect car!
Nick you're reviews are great, keep going!
Great video! Nice blue colour of the 6 series, I also reviewed a 1985 BMW 6 series in my channel, great car!
Some pretty good 80s Porsches out there. Wouldn't mind seeing you review a 928 S4 or maybe a 944 Turbo or Turbo S. My first car was a 88 Guards Red 944 n\a then I graduated to an 86 alpine white 944 Turbo. I kept it stock and it stayed reliable. 7 fun years with her (5 in college).
Nick Murray the new regular car reviews
The Japanese had their own version of the 635i - the 1988 Acura/Honda Legend coupe which I owned and enjoyed for many years.
Nick I just picked up a 633csi with a B7 vin....doesn't crank/start, interior nuked by the sun, all the flat panels are loosing/lost the clear coat.....full of dead hornets, broken mirror...…..I am NUTS! bought for $300.00 US here in California......ohhhhh and no title...sooooo I will be searching for some online prescriptions...HAHAHAHAAHAHA I am sooooo screwed!
First 2 minutes, mentions e24, m4, 911... Subsribed
Yea my dad used to have e21, I remember that smell ;)
My favourite BMW. One day.... one day...
Love your content mate, more people need to know about you!
Wow this car is amazing. Throw is super long but car is incredible. I was lucky enough to drive one as well and begged the owner to sell it to me but he said he'd be buried in it lol.
Damn Nick Murray you weren't joking when you said you were a "little" excited in your channel update video
Ha ha yes you would think I just found my long lost brother or something.
I own an M635CSi, It was my dream car growing up. I drove it across the USA. I also own an old E21. Are Left hand drive cars allowed down under?
Ugh beautiful car. Would it be possible to daily drive a car like this?
Review/buy/restore a classic Ferrari!!
The F355 is omg
You should find a Porsche 944 to review! My dad has one that he's selling (unfortunately) but it would be awesome to see your thoughts on one. Personally I think they are wicked fun to drive and a great car from the '80s.
went to go look at one today only 200 miles since engine and tranny rebuild... Its a friend of mine and he might let it go for 9k but i cant decide if i should get this or a 2001 996 convertible
Love the W badge.
After watching this video I decided to buy a 635csi. Once I find one I will upload a video
+gravity718 Sweet
+gravity718
I'm picking up one next week ^_^
+Nick Murray Do you happen to remember the tire specs on this e24??
+Taylor Gilliland 235/45/17. Wheels are from an E39 528i with the sport package.
(Car is mine)
Nice, clean car! How do you find the 635 compares to your e30? Considering they are the same 'era' do you find they drive much different?
it's different, alot.
Very different cars, aside from some similar features like the controls and computer etc. The E24 is a big cruiser that feels solid. The E30 is so much smaller and more nibble, both great cars.
Nick, excellent.. Is this your field of work? Or?
Front bumper like from locomotive :)
Come to Croatia Nick, the sea and coast are beautiful. You are welcome here! :)
***** Croatia is indeed beautiful. Some of the best sailing in the world can be found up that coast.
My dream car
I dreamed of these cars :-)
Had a 1978 320 (6 cylinder) though. Think it was E21.
You are talking to William. CRAZY!
I do actually like the look the US bumpers...!
By the way, what watch are you wearing Nick?
