Mercury Studios announces the May 10, 2024 release of Back to Front- Live in London from Peter Gabriel on 4K Ultra High Definition Blu-ray.
mercury-studio...
Back to Front - Live in London captures the complete live performance of the So album from start to finish. This spectacular live concert, filmed at London’s O2 over 2 nights in October 2013, using the latest Ultra High Definition 4K technology, captures Peter Gabriel’s celebration of the 25th anniversary of his landmark album So. To mark the event, Gabriel reunited his original So touring band from 1986/87 (David Rhodes, Tony Levin, Manu Katché and David Sancious, with Jennie Abrahamson & Linnea Olsson) and for the very first time fans saw them play the multi-platinum selling album in its entirety. As a bonus Back to Front includes “The Visual Approach” a fascinating feature on the creation of the live show. While the core of the performance is the So album, there is so much more to the concert with unfinished, previously unreleased and re-imagined songs sitting effortlessly alongside classic hits reflecting what a multi-dimensional artist Peter Gabriel is. With innovative lighting and staging, Back to Front - Live in London offers a visual and narrative feast that puts the viewer inside a concert like never before.

Peter Gabriel & Rob Sinclair: Back to Front - The Visual Approach
Love ya Peter - and the Secret World dvd is by far one of my favourite tours!
I remember seeing him perform this live in Philadelphia in 1993, back when Peter was skinny and had hair and long before those backup singers were even born... my god... This song has been a close friend for the majority of my life, thank you.
Meanwhile in Sheffield, Yorkshire...same.
yes thank you well said ...zip lobe the part where he proudly introduces his best friend 🧡 who performs such spiritual music 🎶
Was there too. Great show. Best was the house lights going up, we’re all leaving, and he comes out alone and does Here Comes the Flood. Standing at the top of a stairwell listening. So good
Classic songs stay sounding great!
I remember thinking he looked old then...
He's has always been the most post punk among the prog rockers
I got this concert in Cologne as a birthday present from my girl friend. Well, it suffered pretty much for lack of sprit and energetic vibes. Peter said during the concert that he was positive impressed of the sound technic. 🤔
It seems you go to concerts with the heart of a child.
I think some people think too hard about why his music makes them cry. Maybe it's not because it's the fault of supposedly flawed audio? Take responsibility for your emotions without assigning bogus reasons for having emotions. I know this tendency because of conflating the music quality with my having spent too much money on a celebrity on tour, regardless of how good it is or was, I may never know anyway. Why look back for the root in the sidewalk poking up that you tripped on, just keep walking! Even if you did know the reason for your emotionality, why beat up what causes it. It's too late, you're already a Peter Gabriel fan.😊
@@trustinsynchronicity yes, I am definately a PG fan. He is really an outstanding musician and special human.
I am that guy who looks for any reasons at myself first. As far as I know I am very analytic & "sensitive" person. And of cause, how someone "feels" ist highly subjective and "personal". I am pretty sure the acoustic quality was very professional arranged as Peter said. (AFAIR the WDR was resposible for the technical arrangement in that concert hall in Cologne)
And I am sure all artists performed excellent BUT as I stated already, there was something on the "spiritual" level "missing" or "wrong". No idea if this was the case for the whole Back to Front tour. The ONLY refetence I have was a concert at Circus Krone in Munich in ~1983 and the PG concert videos on ThemTube.
I had the feeling Peter felt very tired that night and it seemed to affect his gals and guys on stage as well .
@@borlibaer Well Peter Gabriel is a family man who was going through emotionally draining stuff himself, from his first wife's dramas, to his second wife's cancer. And his daughter's difficult birth. It all comes with the package. He can't be an android and just be perfect all the time, you know? You were upset realizing it's better to just stay home and listen to his music in the convenience of your own home? I don't go to any concerts because of people talking during concerts or singing along, or having bright cell phone screens blocking my view. How can you expect the singer/artist to be perfect in those art-culling environments, either?
@@trustinsynchronicity oh, think you got me wrong. my comment ism't a negative critique at all, just what I experienced and I was wondering why. Honestly, I am quite "empathic" & reasonable. When Peter got "lost" of my sight and I figured out by chance that he actually was still active musician in the back ground (afro-celt etc.) I was happy. First time I saw him "greyed" I really was concerned he could be seriously sick. I didn't "followed" PG's life so I have had no idea about what you just told me above about his private troubles he had. (thanks!)
As I already said, I am of high respect of Peters creative "works".
During the concert when he laid down on his back on the stage, when the song finished I realized his physical "weakness" to get up again and I thought to myself again, "oh, Peter got (physically) "old" .. sick?. Well, Spirit and Body is ONE UNIT. ....
again, it is no negative criticism of Peter where such kind of honerable humans I respect very much. It is just "empathic" concern and I wish all rightness people all the best; especially in that zombi apocalypse we are in.
Tony Levin is a freaking MONTSER. I really hope someone gives this man his props whilst he's still alive and performing. Hard to think of (m)any other musician's musicians like him who've had such longevity and stellar careers.
I met him years ago. He is a very nice person along with being a generational talent.
Tony and his wife live in the Kingston NY area. It was great to see Tony perform occasionally at Keegan Ales. Would love more "cool jazz" from him and his brother.
He is very cool too with King Crimson. Love him.❤
Him and Danny carey are going to be touring as king crimson
@@robynvanhorn Thanks for that tip. Will be on the look-out. Saw King Crimson in Marin Co., CA many moons ago. Amazing.
I saw Peter Gabriel in July of ‘93 at the Palace of Auburn Hills, MI. Come Talk To Me with Paula Cole bookended with this song is STILL the greatest concert I’ve seen.
I saw the tour at The Tacoma Dome ! STUNNING !
My all time favorite 93 Rochester!!
Secret World Live is in my opinion. One of the best live shows ever. Your music paints the backdrop to our lives Peter. Bravo Sir. Great to see you back. You sound fantastic. 🌎🫶🏼🫵🏼
Oh my.. My friend and i listened to this non stop.. He is no longer with us but my oh my he would have loved that. Thank you Peter.. All my love to you all♥️
❤❤❤
Peter Gabriel is timeless. Hard to believe the first time I saw him was 40 years ago. I hope he lives forever...
PS... I shook your hand when you moved through the audience on your first tour at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA. We both exchanged a hello. That was the first time that i witnessed a performer enter the audience space. it blew my mind! stay healthy and keep on growing Peter! You are a true gift to humanity!
Thank you, when we all meet in the sky, our individuals songs will become the greatest song EVER!!!!!! The greatest gig in the sky. Mr Gabriel, I look forward to meeting you there. Love from Annette XXXXX
❤An amazing man. Amazing band. Amazing song. Amazing performer! Looking forward to his next album!❤
An epic composition that has thrived over time! 👏👏👏
I've been listening to Peter Gabriel for so many decades that just seeing him now and hearing him makes me teary... LoL! Lotsa history!
I love everyone who loves this
All of us love you too 👍🏻
right back at ya brother 👊
I get it. Feel the same.
Peter!
I still have my two CDs one red and one yellow from your Secret World Live album is great. I once took my boombox to UCLA medical center to visit Cara while she was undergoing tests for epilepsy. I played her "In Your Eyes" but she just ignores me today because her soul was drained by the medications her idiot parents put her on. She is no longer the Cara I loved. :( When she came home from college after having her first boyfriend she was almost a hippie chick. She has tried weed but after college she is indoctrinated by her US air force male family members and became a sheeple zombie it breaks my heart. I even begged her parents to have her call me but she didn't. She is an amoeba to me now and I hate that.
Cara was my childhood friend. Deadened now by her epilepsy psychiatry/ treatments. I don't know I think I would have rather been homeless than live like a 'normal' p.o.s. although she always was one to hide in a group of "friends" whereas I live authentically albeit as a lone wolf. I fockin' hate normal people. With a PASSION. THANK GOD there is your music to blast at this stupid world.
What a bewitching performance! Can't wait to see the concert film on HD Blu-ray this spring!
Still making great music into his seventies! 👍
Bonjour Peter Gabriel, comme toujours magnifique; je vous aime beacoup.👌💜🍀
God I love his music ❤
A BluRay of the I/O tour would be fantastic!
Noice, Tony's using the drumstick bass trick again, just like on _So_ 😊
This guy is awesome, always has been!
One of my favourite songs ever
Why are they all dressed like they are ready to service my car for an oil change? haha 😆 All kidding behind me, Peter Gabriel is a legend. Love this man's music.
That was THE band. That, to me, is the pinnacle apex peak extraordinary greatest backing band of all time for PG. Of course, I love that PG is making new music (good music too) but I hope these songs aren't lost in the live context forever.
There are treats in life that everyone deserves at least once. Seeing Peter Gabriel live is a sweet treat.
I always liked the bagpipes overtones that Peter Gabriel chooses for the solos and melodic interplay. Very unique. Would be great if there were actual bagpipes on stage though, rather than synthesized approximations.😊
Dear sweet Peter, where in your childhood did bagpipes inspire you? Sometimes a musician in Scottish military array will play funeral hymns on bagpipes at the holiday market here and it always brings me to tears and reminds me of your music as I look out over the hills listening. (Even though Christmas is about Jesus birth not death) I am crying as I write this and listen to Secret World here. I will never fall out of Love with you.
What a nostalgia inducing soul stirring song. Love every second of it....And amazing to see this is the same legendary Tony Levin who's also played with face melting bands like Liquid Tension Experiment. Amazing!
Got the privilege of seeing this tour in '93. I also met Peter's mother ! RIGHTEOUS !
Thanks Peter. I LOVE the raw intimacy of this beautiful song. I love Us even more than I love So, and I love So.
Agree
me too!
One of my favorite songs off of one of my favorite albums!
Secret World Live '94 ❤ Paula Cole
Paula and Peter made an amazing team
I remember seeing Peter Gabriel in Sheffield at the arena it was fantastic with my great friend I will never forget it something that will always be in my mind when he was in the phone box and he come out of it and it was really long the telephone wire please come talk to me
lot of shiny scalps on that stage..
😂 finally I'm in the band!!!
Such a good moment when the "shh listen" hits.
I've been saying that since the age of 15 when I first bought this album on cassette tape! #shhhlistenftw
Dang that is an all star world class collection of musicians…
La música de Peter Gabriel, me ayudó a sobrevivir en la dictadura de CUBA en los años 90’. Te agradezco el hacerme fuerte para RESISTIR ❤. Hace años vivo en EUROBE😉
Ce live est fantastique avec les "cornemuses"et les "pianos piqués",tres rock...mayB better than the studio recording...❗❗🎵🎶❤❤❤🎵🎶🎶
Mr. Peter Gabriel has such a special, special voice thank you for everything.
My wife and I flew from Florida to Montreal and sat 2nd row for this tour. Was the most amazing experience of my life..........until we flew to Amsterdam last June and then to Buffalo to catch you again with all the amazing and beautiful new music. Your music touches me in ways I can't express in words. I've been going to PG concerts since the late 70s and always feel like I'm the luckiest person on earth to have discovered his music early in life to have it carry with me all these years. Thank you PG so very much for all your music, artistry, creativity, and energy and thank you to all the amazing musicians who you have had the pleasure of recording and performing with all these years. Mr Levin, I will see you soon at a King Crimson show 🙂
.......still the G.O.A.T. to me.......Passion of the Christ still my favourite album of all time, but looking forwaaaaaaaaaard to this masterpiece too. THANKYOU ...XXX...
Thank you Peter!! EVERY TIME that i play this song i get up and dance!!!! Pure Groove and Truth about relationships that sometimes fail.
I saw you live on your first 4 tours and EACH and EVERY show was a gift. Thank you!!
I saw them do this live when most of them had hair except for Tony Levin on bass, with the finger extensions.
The fingers were a little creepy 😲
Will there be a concert film from the latest tour?
Великий Питер и великий Тони Левин!!!!!!!!!
✨🎶🎵 Magnificent ! Like everything you've always done . And your particular and beautiful voice , I don't know if you are aware of your pretty tone of voice ✨😯 Thank you PETER 🙏
What is seriously wrong with the dead beat vibe. Peter Gabriel Youre Effing Top Notch .
That's The Way To Do It Folks 😂
Blessed to have seen it performed since its inception in all US based performance destinations. It's been a wonderful turn these past 47 years since we were both thinner than we are now. Aside from his stand alone tours, WOMAD & Amnesty were exceptional festivals. I look forward to more that he has to give/share/offer....PEACE.....;>)
Cosa sarebbe la musica senza Gabriel
Great show, nice music! TNX Peter & friends.
Tony Levin, God bless you!
What a great, great song.I love it. Thanks for the music. It makes the world a better place.
This is the dvd I watched years ago that made me a fan. Thanks for the 4k upload
Peter we LOVE YOU ❤
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
También aquí en Argentina lo vimos en el secret World tour, impresionante e inolvidable..! Resulta fantástico ver cómo algunos artistas son más brillantes con los años...
Toda mi admiración a Peter...!!!
Those nights at the O2 Arena in London were great gigs but the live version of Secret World on Peter's tour with Lepage's collaboration - the suitcase, the dome etc. - was incredible.
Tony Levin in the pantheon of epic musicians. Simply from another planet.
Totally agree. Backbone of king crimson.
Peter Gabriel and Tony Levin are so good together. First saw Peter live in the early 70s with Genesis at my college and paid 50 pence (UK) to get in
Was on a concert in Munich on " Back to front " - it was amazing like ever !!! ❤ P.G and his whole Bandmembers involved - I collide with ya in my secret world ;* !! xxx
You're always awesome, magic, great performer!! Long live Peter Gabriel, your voice is pure magic since Genesis.❤
Still sounds exactly the same. How is that even possible?
Tony Effin’ Levin !!
Ahhh, to live in the age of Peter Gabriel.
It's always a great emotion to listen to Peter❤
Masterclass! Still have goosebumps after seeing this live 10 years ago :)
I was at the Liverpool leg of this brilliant tour. This was the standout moment of the night. ❤
Saw him perform this in 2002 in Sheffield. Love the bagpipes effect, excellent switch over.
From possibly one of the best albums ever! Us
What are the sticks on the bass players fingers??
Funk fingers.
He calls them “funk fingers”. Basically chopped off drum sticks. Crazy idea, but he’s literally one of the all-time great bass players, so who’s gonna argue with him? His name is Nathan East and he invented them.
Yep, they were invented by Tony. He's used them in the past on tracks from _So_ played live and in the 80s with Crimson on tracks like _Sleepless_ and others. Can't post links here but if you search YT for "TONY LEVIN IS UNREAL!!!!" (lol) there's a nice BTS video of him using them in studio. 😀
@@MrOtistetrax oh I thought that was Tony Levin
@@boathemian7694 In this clip, yes it is.
“What was it we were thinking of….”the most unanswered question on the planet today!
Peter your talent is proven. Your musician buddies are all certified Chops-Masters. But what makes your music a favorite of mine is how I feel during and after the music ends. It calms me. It affirms me. It fills me a bit. I respect you sir, sincerely.
Thanks Peter this time is so sad but you are the light in the darrk...❤
Gracias!!! Gracias!!! Y más gracias!!! Mil gracias por seguir creando!!! Larga vida para Vos P.G. !!!
Great music amazing vocals and fantastic band ! ❤
This concert, and the original Secret World tour deserves to be given a Dolby Atmos and 4K audio video upgrade. I've listened to PG live shows hundreds of times. Would love to enhance this experience.
Amazing.
Possibly my favorite Peter Gabriel vocal song. Certainly my most played.
Say yes to poetry ~ always. ❤
I have seen him in 1987 at the SO Tour in the Ruhrstadium Bochum. I will never forget
Dear Pete ❤❤❤❤❤ and all good dear friends ❤❤❤❤❤ thank youuuuuu all ❤❤❤❤❤
I know many don't care, but you have no idea how hard I have kicked myself that I have never gotten to see this man perform live. I'm just beside myself why and how I missed it this past year. I don't know how many more concerts this guy has in him. And his music collection is just off the charts worldwide so much feel and so much anger and so much depression and angst and love, and happiness. There's just such a wide range of topics he sings about and I'm just really really pissed that I haven't been able to attend yet. And may never be able to😢
❤ AMAZING SONG GREAT GREAT GREAT GABRIEL IS GENIUS ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ beautifull infinitely concert
Completely disappointing to see that one of my favorite artists is lip-syncing during their live performances. Pay attention to what happens to their voice at 0:47 seconds and in many other parts of the song in relation to their microphone. They also do this in "In Your Eyes" at Athens 1987. It's truly disappointing.
I love that your voice is still great. I'm 47 and worry I'll lose it.
His voice is definitely still great in 2024, note this is a show from 2013. But your point stands!
Your voice needs exercise just like the rest of your body to keep in shape. Keep singing and it'll be fine. I'm ten years older than you and I sing better now than I ever have.
Ya so old, me 46 only
@@AndIam-h5mDon't worry, you'll be there soon enough. ;)
Great Piter Gabriel
A wonderfull moment one of the Best singer of the century many thanks sir Gabriel
I remember being more or less obsessed with Peter Gabriel’s music back in the day. I haven’t heard this one in a few decades but boy is this a great song or what?
❤Beatiful sound an amazing songwriter.
A legend
Still got it, Slipperman. You're a true Wizard.
beautiful . Thank you .
Tony Levin is STILL so amazing! Funk Fingers! :)
