This video is one of the best when it comes to naming functional COMPOUNDS... Thanks for your videos.. very easy to understand and straight to the point
Sir in the example of rule number 8 why can't we number the parent chain containing COOH AND OH group.. because it's the chain having more number of functional group?!
U see which chain has more functional groups only if there are more than one chains which have principal functional group. If there is clearly a chain which has principal functional group and is longest then don't care about other functional groups.
@@suriyakumars2631 in that question OH doesn't act as a main functional group but it acts as a substitution there so according to rules we select the longest chain which is that 6 carbon chain Hope it clears your doubt 👍🏻
Numbering should be done from that direction which gives sum of the locants minimum. So the numbering shown there gives a total of 3 +4 while if we give numbering in other direction it will be 2+3 which is less therefore it is correct. That's why it is 3-ethyl-2-methyl.
No it shouldn’t be because it needs the lowest number locations for the subsequent groups hence it would be numbered from the other direction thus 3-ethy-2-methyl-pentane
Parent chain should be selected as the longest chain possible that includes principal functional group. In the example there, COOH is included in 6 carbon chain which is the parent chain. But if try to include -OH we will get only 5 carbon chain which is not correct. Suppose if the parent chain has only 5 carbons and two possibilities are there in selection of parent chain, then we have to select the parent chain such that it contains both COOH as well as OH groups. Hope it is clear now.
When CHO group is included in the main chain, it is indicated with prefix "-oxo". At the example given in the video, CHO is not considered as side chain but it is included in the parent chain as it gives longes chain with two functional groups. So it will be indicated with term "-oxo". Hope it is clear now. Thanks for watching
Best video to learn about naming organic compounds.
Now we can name any possible combination

all the rules in 1 video ... Great i gound this
So helpful video sir👍🏻
You are god of IUPAC name 👍🏻🥺❤️
very good video. At 21:24 I think the correct name is 3-(1-chloro-2-hydroxyethyl)hexanoic acid (ethyl is missed)
yes you are absolutely correct
Superb Sir respect from pakistan
The best video for rules of iupac nomenclature ❤❤
this video is really good for revision purpose
Glad to hear that. Thanks for watching.

The OH there doesn't act as a principal functional group but rather a substitution so we choose the longest chain there
Really one of the best U tube channel. Ur way of explanation is excellent.
hii sir could you please tell me what S,1H AND YL stand for in this histidines iupac name....(2S)-2-amino-3-(1H-imidazol-5-yl)propanoic
Sir,The rule number 8 is not entering in my mind
Hope you will clear my daubt
Thanks for this informative video
U should have to make this video starting with akane, aklene, alkyne after that P.F.G . Like proper arrangement
No doubt this video is very helpful
U deserve a like and a comment,
Nice doing , this is an Underrated channel ,

hii sir could you please tell me what S,1H AND YL stand for in this histidines iupac name....(2S)-2-amino-3-(1H-imidazol-5-yl)propanoic
Why it can't be 5-hydroxy-4-chloro-3-propyl-pentanoicacid
Because, IUPAC name should contain all functional groups in its name right... that's why I'm asking

It is very useful sir. In rule 3 example 2 how it is 3methyl 2 ethyl pentane..
Numbering should be done from that direction which gives sum of the locants minimum. So the numbering shown there gives a total of 3 +4 while if we give numbering in other direction it will be 2+3 which is less therefore it is correct. That's why it is 3-ethyl-2-methyl.
i thought 3ethyl4methylpentane
@@ivanpatrickmedrano9343 mereko abhi bhi nahi aya
@@egpatI thought it is 2,3-methylpentane
sir the name of the compound in rule 8 should be 4-chloro-3-propyl pentan-5-oloic acid
This video may not helpful for beginners (those who haven't idea about IUPAC)
Thanku sir most of my doubt cleared from this video
Glad to hear that
Good explanation really useful 👍🏻
Very very thanks
This video is superb ❤

how about 3-carboxy-2-methylpentanoic acid? is this correct or will it be 2-Ethyl-3-Methyl Butane-dioc acid?

In rule 8 why we are not selecting the oh containing chain as parent chain .....
is this applicable for class 11 and jee mains and advanced?

Can u pls reply, if a compound has both double bond and hydroxyl group, which group should be taken as principal group
OH is functional group and functional groups always have more priority than multiple bonds like double bond or triple bond
Good explanation full mb basul like full Paisa basul
Nice
What if u have a side chain that has another side chain but not in the same group. That's my question
Pls give example of rule 13
8.28 min. Aldehyde what is prefix oxo or formyl
thank you sir
Welcome. Stay tuned for more videos on IUPAC.

Why you are not adding OH in parent chan
