    very good video. At 21:24 I think the correct name is 3-(1-chloro-2-hydroxyethyl)hexanoic acid (ethyl is missed)

    Sir in the example of rule number 8 why can't we number the parent chain containing COOH AND OH group.. because it's the chain having more number of functional group?!

      U see which chain has more functional groups only if there are more than one chains which have principal functional group. If there is clearly a chain which has principal functional group and is longest then don't care about other functional groups.

      The OH there doesn't act as a principal functional group but rather a substitution so we choose the longest chain there

      Because, IUPAC name should contain all functional groups in its name right... that's why I'm asking

      ​@@suriyakumars2631 in that question OH doesn't act as a main functional group but it acts as a substitution there so according to rules we select the longest chain which is that 6 carbon chain

    It is very useful sir. In rule 3 example 2 how it is 3methyl 2 ethyl pentane..

      Numbering should be done from that direction which gives sum of the locants minimum. So the numbering shown there gives a total of 3 +4 while if we give numbering in other direction it will be 2+3 which is less therefore it is correct. That's why it is 3-ethyl-2-methyl.

      OH is functional group and functional groups always have more priority than multiple bonds like double bond or triple bond

      Parent chain should be selected as the longest chain possible that includes principal functional group. In the example there, COOH is included in 6 carbon chain which is the parent chain. But if try to include -OH we will get only 5 carbon chain which is not correct. Suppose if the parent chain has only 5 carbons and two possibilities are there in selection of parent chain, then we have to select the parent chain such that it contains both COOH as well as OH groups. Hope it is clear now.

    aT 8.29 , CHO group when in substitute form is written as formyl and not oxo.

      When CHO group is included in the main chain, it is indicated with prefix "-oxo". At the example given in the video, CHO is not considered as side chain but it is included in the parent chain as it gives longes chain with two functional groups. So it will be indicated with term "-oxo". Hope it is clear now. Thanks for watching
