How to Wake Up at 5am (& not be tired!) as a Teenager ⏰

  • Woahhh crazy and potentially revolutionary idea of waking up (very) early hey. Having done this most weekdays for around a year, I can honestly say that waking up this early changes your outlook on life a lot. Quiet uninterrupted time for meditation and yoga, personal projects, catching up on homework, making proper breakfasts or whatever you feel like doing is just the best thing ✨
    I hope this video helps out anyone wanting some tips on how to wake up at 5am (and not be tired!) as a teenager, or just generally how to wake up earlier. I promise I'm not crazyyy ;) x

      I do this, too so that I am so tired that I'll go to sleep early and to wake up at 5am the next morning. It is hard but it works! Then you'll get tired every evening and soon you'll start to sleep at 8pm and you'll wake up at 5am with 9 hours of sleep!👍

    Waking up at 5am sucks when you're living in England during the winter. The sun doesn't even come up for hours hahaha.

      I’m a bit late but what can ya do...? Anyway, my alarm currently resides on the other side of the room on a desk as I have no side table. It’s always full volume so I can hear it properly. Unfortunately, this makes it so the rest of my family can hear it as well. Regardless, I wake up at 5:00 am each day whereas my family does ‘bout 7:00 - 8:00 am. How? Quite stupid, actually. In the mornings, as I am quite a light sleeper, I wake at the first ‘Breep’ of my alarm and rapidly sprint across my room to turn that spawn of Satan off. If you can turn it off in about 10 seconds, your family mostly can’t hear. I also make sure to not go to the toilet the night before so I HAVE to go to the toilet in the morning. While I’m in the bathroom, I splash my face and end up feeling quite refreshed (though I do have to be careful to avoid creaking floors while travelling there). You can try this out, haha, but I think you just have to develop a personal method to avoid the demonic beings that are you parents in the early mornings :)

      Liam Valio That’s what I do! I also have The Stampede from the Lion King as my ringtone (don’t judge me.) which gradually increases volume, so I wake up before it gets too loud and sprint across the room to turn it off

      what i did was have the will power of waking up at 5am no matter what time i went to sleep, after a while i started to get tired and go to bed early and did it like this until i naturally formed a routine and went to sleep at 11pm and woke up at 5am naturally

    Summary:
    1. SLEEP EARLY
    lol, get enough rest , been said many times before but still important to reillterate
    2.SLEEP QUALITY
    Dont use your phone before you sleep, stay away from white light, keeps your brain awake :<
    3.PLAN YOUR MORNING
    Plan what you wanna do in the morning from the moment you wake up, get use to a routine :)
    4.ALARM CLOCK
    Invest in a blaring alarm, across the room such that you get up to walk to switch it off. Dont touch the snooze button
    5. GO TO THE TOILET
    ...when you wake up, gets you up and out of your room, wakes yourself up
    6.YOGA AND MEDITATION
    Energises yourself, refer to youtube videos
    7.NO PHONE
    8.HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE
    Habit trackers, motivate yourself :>
    9.HABITS AND CONSISTENCY
    10. MINDSET

    You should look into the Wake-Up Light as an alarm clock! It's wonderful and slowly illuminates the room as if you're waking up to the sunrise, and you can pick really calming music. Totally transformed how I walk up early. xx

      You could also try Alarmy! Instead of just hitting the snooze button, you can make it so that you have to answer math problems to wake up.

On Monday I had my first exam at university and I aced it! You really gave me inspiration, to be more productive, to study more efficiently and to take care of myself and my physical and mental health. When you started making videos I was not in a very nice place and now I feel that I've grown so much from that period of my life; I learnd to believe in myself and to work harder to achieve my goals.     I have just started waking up early. I was previously nocturnal like legit, and some days wake up as late as 5pm.
    Now I am trying really really hard to be up early. I set triggers in my room, like i keep the curtains open at night so light hits me in the morning. I make my breakfast at night ( overnight oats ), so that its easier in the morning. I also make a plan/to-do list the night before.
    I am still a long way from 5 am, but i have managed to hit 7am so far. Lol its just been 4 days since i seriously started this.
    And i also meditate and do yoga! Its helping soo much.
    I see myself getting more and more in terms with myself and life.
    It's so worth it!

    6am and my entire house is up, on weekends fun starts round 5:45am and if I get up at 5am then they wake up hearing me walk and they get up too and yell at me that i woke them up, there is no such thing as alone time in the morning

      Why should this be A problem? If alarm is outside my room I will not Wake up. Sometimes my boyfriend has to wake up at 4:30 and it was also never A problem. I wake up but after 2 minutes I sleep again.

      ask to have a study hall. unless your school does not offer it. but at my school you can sign up for a study hall, where you can get all your work done. the only issue is it will take the place of one of your extra curricular activities.

      But u don't need 10 hours of sleep because your body will adjust to sleeping for less than 8hrs

    I had a 9.30-10.00 pm to 4.30-5.00 am schedule for half a year but one day i fell sick and slept in until 8.00 pm and that was how i ruined my life for the whole year.
    Edit: Now i dont even hear my alarm :))

    JADE I LOVE THIS VIDEO!
    I wake up at 5AM every single day too! Though the things I do in the morning varies. Some days I will read before school starts, other days I just catch up on some work and other days I just do some revision! I feel waking up at 5AM really helps you focus throughout the rest of the day, and it makes you such a positive person too! I love how you're always so positive!

    I've been waking up at 3 or 5 am since the start of this month..without setting an alarm or thinking of doing it. Its been happening by itself and, quite frankly, I don't mind one-bit :D I've started putting up an alarm just in case I don't wake up on my own, but thankfully I haven't had to use it even once by now- my body amazes me sometimes hehe.
    Since I'm waking up so early, and school starts at 7.30, I've had nothing to do (except revising for tests on some days, but nothing else other than that). I'm so grateful that this video came up on my recommended, you're an absolute angel Jade!

      have you got a sleep disorder possibly? I was completely unaware that I had obstructive sleep apnea and would need at least 10 hours to somewhat function. It triggered weight gain, depression, anxiety and really poor school results. I saw multiple psychologists and pediatricians to get to the root of the problem but then finally (thankfully!) was referred to a sleep doctor. Immediately was ordered to get my tonsils and adenoids out and after the two week recovery process and months of catching up on sleep debt I finally feel like I'm starting to regain some control of my life.

    i can wake up at 5am but i hate the feeling of opening the windows and it being dark! am i the only one who feels this way??

      Same.. but what I just did was I would just open a nightlight and just get changed for school and take plenty of time. By the time that is finished it tends to get around sunrise?? If that doesn’t work then I would say just get up and force yourself outside and then sit outside for a bit (this is best in summer) if that doesn’t work either then open a small not very bright light and just do some work until it’s near sunrise?? Idk I find all these things calming

    What really helps me with the light in the morning is my Wake up light. It is like an alarm clock combined with a lamp. So if I set my alarm for 6 it will start around 5.40 to simulate a sunrise, starting with really dim light and very slowly increasing it. So when the alarm rings at 6 my eyes are already used to the light and I get up way earlier. I really suggest you try it out Jade, it has literally changed my life (especially for the winter months)

    saw ages ago u woke up at 5 so i've been doing it since the new year and I LOVE IT (in year 13 too). honestly its not as horrific as you'd think it would be is it? would defy recommend, I found the most difficult bit at first was falling asleep early just because my body clock was so used to getting tired at midnight, but once you adjust yourself it works so well

    I know it’s been legit 2 years since this video was posted but I’m gonna write this here to hold me accountable. I have to catch a 7am bus to get to work starting next week and I was panicking about how I would be able to do it and do my whole routine and everything by 6.30 when I need to leave my house. Watching your video has really inspired me to try waking up at 5 to get me to that bus on time but also to do it well rested and exercised. Let’s see how this goes... thank you Jade!!

      But the 5.30 bus thing is so hard. Haven't been doing it since corona tho thank God! It honestly sux cuz I only got 4-5 hrs of sleep and no.... It doesn't get easier :/
      But I'm just glad that there won't be any school for a while 😅😂

    Hey Jade :) I'm normally that silent watcher who never comments on videos but I was compelled this time as this advice was so practical and encouraging - I've written it all down haha! I've binge-watched your videos after just finding you and your attitude has struck a deep chord, your honesty and authenticity shines through. Holy mama you're so wise beyond your years! Wish I had a friend like you at 17/18 (now 22 and penultimate year of uni!) who was such a positive and inspiring influence! What a great role model to your peers and viewers :) Definitely going to start gradually ...at 7am .. then 6am and then 'maybe' 5am! :D

    From watching this video, I was so ready to start waking up early. I had set my alarm and when I woke up I was almost excited to have time to myself. I opened my bedroom door and my dad walked past- I'd completely forgot that he got up at 5 😂😂😂

    Hi Jade. well, actually im a muslim. it's something very require for us to wake up that early to pray. that's the time when our prayers will be heard (He hears everytime but that is the most decent time to pray). Well, im not that motivated to wake up that early 😂 but i have to get up before 7 by the way to perform fajr prayer which is a must rather than the prayer i mentioned before.
    i don't mean anything. just wanna share some knowledge and your tips are very helpful in general. thank you for sharing and youre the best because you can get yourself up that early! best of luck Jade!

      So now i can sleep at 9 or 10 pm normally but i can't wake up at 4 am.... I can success in 2 from 10 efforts 😂😂

    Jade how do you deal with overwhelming amounts of homework. That's my biggest problem right now. It's draining my motivation because I spend so much time on my homework that by the time it's time to study it's already pretty late and I'm exhausted. It's a terrible cycle and I'm behind on everything now 😭

      Try to do your homework during uneccessary tangents in class if you have to, if you have time during lunch or after/before school work on homework, another idea is to go to teachers and ask if there is a way to get the homework done faster and that all the classes combined takes up your time, or explain that all of the classes and their homework is too much and getting in the way of study time, lastly it's obvious but difficult, eliminate the distractions as simple as a paper clip , a Tv, Phone, avoid social media during homework, and do it in a focused environment. I understand the response is late, but Good luck!

    I saw this video 4 months ago. Everyday I make up at 5am. All I do is read at this time. Then I do what I do in the middle of the day, and I sleep at 9pm.

    I have this exam at 7 am, I have to get up at 6 to attend it, but I usually wake up at around 10 (and skip morning class).
    I only have one week day for day,any one here think I can get my body clock used to waking up 4 hours earlier withing a week ?
    For all my past school year, I would skip morning class, and then the day of the exams (at 7) I would feel realy "jet lagged" and be super groggy until around 10am, having spent 3/4 or my exam with my eyes barely open, and I would get most of my points on the last hour of the exam once the "lag" gets away.
    But I wish to change this bad habit.
    Also, I litterally skip about 33% to 50% of my classes every day only so I can stay longer in bad.

      Update: no need to answer me, but for those wondering: I can't get used to waking up earlier in only a week. I felt like sh*t throughout the whole week cause I had to wake up way earlier that usual, and so I was too tired to study, and failed my exam.

    Hi Jade, I’ve been waking up at 5am these past few days, doing 2 hours of revision and then making breakfast. It’s so helpful.
    Also, please can you do another meet up that’s on like a Saturday or something because I’m usually at Church on Sundays x

    How can someone have such a healthy lifestyle! I struggle to wake up even at 7:00 am! And one of the main reasons is because I struggle to sleep early at night. This video was super helpful Jade

    Some people have to remember that for some people waking up so early is just inherently ineffective and you shouldn’t force it upon yourself if it clearly doesn’t work for you and makes you less efficient.

    So awesome! I used to wake up at 4 or 5am too with 4-5 hours of sleep - and I felt great every day. What keeps me energized are the Falun Dafa exercises. They are for free and super relaxing :)

    jade, I have to wake up at 5am every morning due to chronic health issues so that I get to college on time. despite this, most of the time I find myself missing morning lessons as I am so unwell which saps my motivation. yet watching your channel encourages me to continue and be resilient! i especially enjoy your videos on meditation and revision techniques. i cannot thank you enough for your help. you are wonderful💗

    I've tried getting up early before but I seem to be able to walk across my room, turn my alarm off and get back into bed without really being aware of what I'm doing? Which means that there's no point where I can decide not to get back into bed, because my brain isn't awake enough to make any decisions. I'm going to keep trying though, maybe by putting my alarm in different places?

    This may be a little far from the subject of waking up early but as a whole it relates to the picture. I kinda need advice and support on this. I'd be happy to talk to anyone.. If you want my insta then I'll give it to you and we can chat. Here's what's happening... I've been a fan of Panic at the Disco since I was a lot younger (like 6) I'm now a teenager. Last week I went to my first concert and I saw panic! Obviously lmao. When I think that i actually saw Brendon I still cry because he is such an inspiration and I love him so much. I've been on a unjaded jade marathon for about a week two and it's inspired me to try so hard to be like Brendon (not a singer but an inspiration) it's the Easter holidays soon and I'm spending that time to prepare myself to start pushing really hard to become successfull. I've seen jade talk about telling yourself aspirations in the morning and this "project" will be called "do it for Brendon" and I will repeat this every morning. One day, I am going to see Brendon and I'm going to thank him for everything he's done for me. Thanks for putting up with my crap if you've read all of this.. have a great day, night or evening ❤

    I used to wake up at 4am everyday and immediately be productive! Now..
    I woke up at 7am, slept again at 11am and took ANOTHER deep nap at 5pm :/ idk if it's stress...I'm trying hard to get back on track especially with A Levels in 3months but...it just seems impossible!

      That is my story... I was so productive, focused and motivated and now? I just keep disappointing myself. BUT I refuse to just take it as it is because I know I can get back to it!
      That "spirit" is still inside of me. I just have to wake it up ;)

    People here struggling to wake up at 5 and I woke up every day for 1 year at 4 with only like 5 hours of sleep cause I revised in the morning and my school was far so long journey, I have to say that it is was very nice waking up early and worth it, the sunrise was gorgeous as well😍

    You are so right.. I definitely don’t wake up at 5 am at all although I want to.. but I realized that when I wake up at 6h-6h30 I get so much more done during the day, I feel productive and less tired weirdly 🧐 but then the weekend comes and I wake up at 10-11 and feel groggy and just want to go back to bed and I don’t get my school work done or anything done the way I want to.. so thanks for this you are very motivating 😄 xx
