Fortunately, I had the opportunity to hear them live in concert with this masterpiece and another one, César Franck’s Sonata in A major. I have to admit, that the sound they both developed and their extremely musical expressiveness just blew me away and touched me so deeply, so that I could hardly hold back my tears. That’s what makes life worth living, to glance behind the curtain from time to time, the world behind or beyond the world.
A master at work. So much soul and passion in playing the double bass… there might be only few bass players who are able to bring together highest technique and musicality, as Michael Rieber does. This is so much more than just virtuous bass playing. Thank you for sharing and also a big BRAVO to Norbert Goerlich for exquisite accompaniment.
