Some excellent points. If you are gonna struggle to meet the minimum spend requirements with your normal spending, then the card isn't for you. Never overspend or carry a balance.
Great video! I think you missed one hack. If you have an Amex corporate green card from your employer, you get discounts on the personal gold and platinum cards’ annual fees. This is huge for the people who qualify. Discount on the gold card is $100 and $150 for the platinum card every year. In most cases, this brings down the effective annual fee close to zero or even negative.
Hi Matt! If you upgrade from one card to another, does that prevent you from qualifying for a welcome offer on the card you upgraded to? So if you upgraded from Surpass to an Aspire, would you still qualify for a welcome offer later on with the Aspire?
It can be tricky. Typically I recommend to get the welcome offer on a particular card first before going for an upgrade bonus. Like you alluded to, sometimes this will make you ineligible for the welcome offer. I only upgraded to the Hilton surpass after I had previously gotten the welcome bonus on that card. Thanks for watching Paul!
Id like to try and upgrade our no fee Hilton card and Surpass. Are the agents on to people that try to get around the system? Ive never bothered to tey before but i may make sense.
I think there's no reason not to try for an Upgrade bonus! If you weren't targeted for one, you can utilize Amex's live chat feature to ask for one. Thanks for watching David!
Great tips here Matt! Yeah, when I canceled my Gold I got offered a retention offer, but it was something terrible like 10k for 3k spend. I lol’ed at the customer service agent before I axed the card 😂. Didn’t bother to HUCA, but may have gotten me a better deal. Now it will forever be a mystery
Haha yeah that's fair enough😂Amex has been awfully stingy with retention offers recently (I couldn't get anything on my wife's Amex Gold last year), so I'm just hoping all the changes they made to the Cards this year makes them more likely to be open to giving Retention Offers. Thank you Stan!

Thank you! Wow that’s a great point, I actually haven’t heard of that tip before so thanks so much for bringing that to my attention!
Thanks for the info + video!
Appreciate your support as always Jimmy!
Thank you for always sharing your knowledge. what's your take on Amx Hilton aspire offering 175K in welcome bonus?
Thanks so much Francis! I think that’s a great offer!
@@MattWelterOfficial Thank you!
The spend requirements for AMex is generally lower than Chase. Chase typically requires $4000 in 3 months which is more than $6k in 6 mos
It depends! There are Amex Cards with $15k spend requirements so depends on which cards you are going for. Thanks for watching!
How do you upgrade. Call customer service?
You can either call customer service, utilize the Amex live chat feature or be targeted in your Amex account. Thanks Michael!
Great job on UA-cam ♥️
Thank you Vicki!

$8000 in 6 months is easy to do if your bills are high enough lol $1350 a month will get you to 8k in 6 months
Definitely fair although everyone has their own individual situation
👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Xavier!
My buddy just got the Gold card. Definitely sending this his way!
Love it! Thanks Jake!
