RR Vita had most of its content locked behind DLC. It's unfortunate yet unforgivable. I hope BandaiNamco will release RR8 sometime in the near Future though.
I think the last great RR games were the ones from the PSP. I would say RR from the Vita... But it's SO empty without the DLC (5 cars and 3 tracks, base game)
Ridge Racer 2 for the PSP was the last great game. It's shocking how Namco sold the Vita game as incomplete and forcing you to download the rest of the game.
I never had any experience with RR up until I bought it for the 3DS one time. Man, I hated the rubberbanding. But I worked to get everything in that game. Sadly, I lost it along with many other 3DS games and some old DS games as well. Don't play it at all these days but good times when it my little substitute for NFS.
Of the classic style, you have to say that the Ridge Racer 2/Revolution was probably the greatest version (there were many remakes over the years). However, I was madly fond of R4, it was a beautiful game with an unmistakable vibe.

In the next rendition they can add options for drift mode vs regular arcade vs a bit sim like if they are smart about it, so they can please everyone.
If Namco are done with RR then they need to sign it off with a love letter of a release for all the fans it's accumulated over the last (almost) 30 years. In this age of remasters, I'd love to see Namco release an anthology of every course and every soundtrack in the series updated in 4k at 60fps. Bundle in the original versions too. Give us a collector's edition version of it as well with artwork, interviews and a ridiculous price tag if need be for us silly enough but love it enough to buy it. Make it happen, Namco.
And a story in game, with all the chars in the franchise, Reiko, Ai, the team principals in R4, even Rena and Gina from R:RE and the ones from critical velocity and unbounded.
Is it just me or did ridge racer never find its true purpose? It seems like one huge experiment of what could work and what not on many different platforms..... Edit: Type 4 was a blast ♥️
I love the Ridge Racer series and was completely unaware of many of these however I think they should stick to the original formula and not trying to copy other modern games. They can still have amazing graphics and gameplay but still look like and feel like a Ridge Racer game.
and it should be in the same spirit of Type4 for it to be successful... but I think Namco doesn't want to spend money and time to continue RR. Because it's not mainstream enough... like F-Zero from Nintendo. A sad story
