    “There is a beauty in the difficulty.” And pain haha ! Restringing my qin has been a test of fortitude in multiple ways… Frustrating, but worth it. My guqin sounds so beautiful with higher quality strings, thank you for this video ! 🙏

    Thank you! May I ask, is your string spacing at the nut even, or are they grouped unevenly? I have a string popping over to the right at the nut occasionally, and it's causing some difficulty. Thanks again!

      Strings should be spread evenly at the nut (龍齦).

      Look at the back. Make sure strings do not overlap there, which might help. It is important to have the string in the right place at the nut in the beginning. Otherwise they will dig into it when tightened for a long time and will be hard to adjust in the future.

      Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to answer my querstion. What you said is just what happened I think: spacing was never even from the beginning, and now there are tiny grooves in the wrong places. The strings don't overlap, but they just won't stay put. The problem just started today.... I took a bit of leather and put it under the string on the head behind the nut, this is holding it in place and preventing the slipping. I don't notice any effect on tone. I'm hoping that when I restring I can avoid this. Thanks again!

    Hello! Thank you for your video. Where do you buy your new guqin strings? And do you suggest different brands for beginner, intermediate, and advanced playing?

      I bought my strings from the makers and friends when I was in China or Japan in person. For online purchase, I think Yuesheng 樂聖 and Shangyin 上音 brands are pretty reliable. They are not expensive and can be used for both beginner and advanced guqin.

      These two are both metal strings. Silk strings are more complicated, need a lot of special maintenance, and can be really expensive, which I do not recommend for beginners.

    Hello? Thank you for your video. How often do guqin strings need to be changed? Does it break often?

    • @ShuishanYuGuqin
      @ShuishanYuGuqin  Рік тому +2

      It depends on the quality of the strings. Metal strings last very long. I have instruments that I bought more than 20 years ago still with its original strings working. Silk strings break more often. Which ever you have, you don't need to change them until they: 1) are broken; 2) can't be start right on the bridge while properly tuned, in this case, you just need to adjust the silk ropes and restring them; 3) silk strings flake to form uneven surfaces; 4) wound metal strings unravel.

    Hi! I have a new guqin that came with brown tassels attached to the pegs. I would like to change the tassels to a different color, but I don't know how. Can you make a video showing how to change those, please? Thank you!

    I had to restring my Guqin... I was too short and didn't have the strength to keep the tension when I wrapped it around the goosfeet so I had my dad help.... his face turned into a tomato with the effort required.

      Now it's all done? Bravo to your dad! Yah, it does require some strength, endurance, and experience.
