Big shout out! Soundcloud artist David Cutter - Навчання та стиль
Looks great! Miters look great. Thank you for running the veins correctly!! That bathroom floor looks...... Well, it speaks for itself. 😬
Great job 👍
Thanks! and yeah, that floor...
Very nice work! I always try to be conscientious about the tile pattern to keep everything flowing, it looks better and I really believe on a subconscious level, because it is less busy, the room actually feels calmer and more relaxed. Especially two very detailed oriented customers and people. Again nice work and thank you for the video!
Yes of course, happy you enjoyed! Merry Christmas!
Learned something new.. Thank you!
Dam clean crisp and complete 🤙🏽
I like the tile you used on this installation.
Great job man. It was nice to see you actually doing some nice renovations... I'm only use to watching you do tool reviews, so I guess I will look around for more videos of you doing renovations. Great job.
Thanks! I have over 250 videos and lots of episodes of Bath and Shower Tile Ideas. Check them out!

I am about to try to do something similar,
Definitely very helpful!!
Thanks! Thanks ! Thanks!......👌👌
That looks difficult and you guys did 2 of them. Excellent job, really like the mitered joints.
It's a lot of work! but worth it. Thanks!
It looks lovely, I will be tiling my brick fireplace soon.
Thanks!
MAD MAD MAAAAAAD SKILLS!!!!
wow great miter!!
Great work!
Very nice and Clean look to it. Miters looks so much better than trim
Yes sir I agree!
Great job
Awesomeness ❤😊
Looks great what size notched trowel did you use?
Looks great🤗... what did you used to adhere the goboard to the brick..
Wow
I came across your video and I like it bro.great work
Thank you sir, appreciate the kind words! 👊
I didn't know that Josh Brolin did tile work on the side. Just kidding, he is definitely your celebrity doppelganger in my opinion.
Great install, it is refreshing to see your professionalism and advocacy for quality workmanship. I am just a DIY homeowner who likes tiling, but it drives me crazy when I notice installs that leave bare edges on ceramic and porcelain. I'm sure it is both customers and pros who want to skimp on cost, but it's usually only an extra 30 to 50 dollars for some edge banding right? Thank you for the inspiration and the reminder that quality is always noticeable!
Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
Nice video. Can you tell me the wet saw saw blade you are using for miter cuts? I tried a Pearl P4 but it drifts too much for good miter cuts. Seeking a stiffer blade to reduce drift. Thinking a continuous rim would be better than mesh blade. Thoughts?
I'm the guy that would do the bathroom floor without matching veins 😂
Always defer to my customer on that and they normally don't care...except those cross veins😱...but man oh man, those miter cuts, the time on the double corners holy crap !
How do you know the GoBoard will withstand a 4 hour burn ???
This gas fireplace will have fire glass installed (super low heat). Also, I have tested Goboard with super high heat for 5 plus hours covering up a generator with minimal airflow (I have multiple videos uploaded on this). The Goboard has held up for at least 100+ hours of super high heat as a generator quiet box and has yet to heat up enough to burn... It doesn't even come close. I believe the fiberglass in the board is hard to burn (also tested it with a torch).
StarrTile it’s ok bob , I’m the guy that lays 200 sq ft first then realized that I should have matched the veins 🤬😢
I would purposely not match the veins. I think it looks better because there’s no way to actually “match them up”. They’re not made to match up.
The glossy mantel is a really nice accent.
Great looking job!!! Do you use your cordless drill to mix thinset on big jobs and if so how many buckets on one charge.
We tossed all of our corded tools. The only remaining corded tools are the tile saws (patiently waiting for Dewalt to come out with a flexvolt cordless tile saw). The drill will mix more than 10+ buckets of mortar on one charge with a 6amp flexvolt battery. 👊
What about the heat do not affect the tinset? Just little concerned
Hard to find a guy as good as you. I live in Stratford Connecticut.
Right on 👊
Quick question. Can you tile a fire place if the surrounding is metal ?
Working on bidding my first fire place refacing.....which is also painted brick. Every place I read said you can not tile directly onto painted brick because you would not get a good bond and that the best solution is to Tapcon Hardy board to the face and then tile on that. I didn't read anywhere about the tile primer, what advice do you have?
Yes! You can definitely tile directly onto brick. Pick up some tile primer, paint it on first and you're good to go! 👊
StarrTile I have never matched the veins either but I like the look. Clean and professional. Landberg Kills it again! I will install like this in the future. On another note. Foam may not burn but it does melt and shrink. Also Styrofoam when heated gives off toxic fumes. All depends on how fast the tile transfers heat. Now Gas is low temp but wood would definitely be a problem? Why not Durock cement board instead?

I just did a fireplace similar to this style with mitred corners. First one ever with trying mitres. My saw motor bearing broke half way through the job. Made for a nightmare finishing the miters.
Real pro
Where can I find a tile guy this good to do mine? I'm in the High Desert of Southern Cal
Very much enjoying your channel. Could you provide more detail on how you measure for the mitres? As a newby I am concerned about what the appropriate mitre overhang is required to allow for thinset or tile adhesive?
Thanks! We miter cut leaving only a 1/16 - 1/32 on the glaze of porcelain/ceramic and stone. The mitered joint does not need thinset, only grout installed between the joints. Grouting is a bit time consuming, but the final product is beautiful!
Very much appreciate your reply and apologize for not clearly articulating my dilemma. I Understand the glaze reveal and the mitre doesn’t need thinset. From a woodworkers perspective we cut mitres to be “flush” with the substrate as we only add a thin bead of glue so everything is cut tight, but with tile I’m assuming extra room is needed allowing depth for the adhesive and as a result your mitre protrudes over the edge of the substrate? How do you calculate that extra depth? Is it just the trowel notch?
Looks beautiful mate, what blades do you use to both cut and mitre your porcelain? I have worked with so many tilers that seem to have a lot of issues avoiding chipping when cutting porcelain. Any tips?
we cut below the glaze (tile upside down on the tile saw to miter) here you go

Looks awesome. I will be tiling my brick fireplace soon. What angle are the miter cuts? 45? And what type of grout did you use? Thanks for the video! Can't wait to do mine!!
Thanks! and yup, 45 miters and prism grout 👊
Great video and you guys do alot of mitered tile work. You mention you use prism grout. Community seems to be mixed on use of grout vs caulk for mitred corner. Is grout susceptible to cracking? Seems caulking would not look very good compared to grout
Great video, thank you. Which primer do you use or recommend? Getting ready to do my fire place and want to use a similar primer.
We got it off the shelf at Lowes on the tile isle, can't remember the name..
Great, thank you
When using the tile primer did you prep the existing painted brick in any way (sand, scrape, etc.) or just roll on the primer over the existing paint?
Rolled the primer over the existing paint.
Looks good man👍🏼
Thanks buddy!
landberg Tile TV of course man, mitres never really hit big up here in my community but we just had a demonstration day at our local tile supplier, rubi brought some rail saws and a couple of my constituents bought the rail saw specifically for mitre on LFT , I think it looks sooo clean ! Another technique to add to the trim detail!
Those rail saws are sick! but crazy expensive. One day we'll mess around with one...
landberg Tile TV well now is the time to check into it, Rubi special made a certain amount for a company that backed out of the deal, they are selling for relatively cheep since they changed the color of the saw to accommodate the company. Worth checking into if you are interested
How long did this job take? 2 guys? How long would it take you alone?
Do you mix full time with the dewalt hammer drill ? Would be nice to mix cordless
YES, full time with our Dewalt cordless drill and would never go back to a cord.
Would you put the same tile above the fireplace all the way to the ceiling or stone ledge? Thanks
Stone ledge would like nice.
Great video. Informative. Looking forward to my project. FYI, I'd lose the music. I'd rather listen to your explanations/descriptions than listen to the music.
Yes, been adding less and less music. I love it at first! This video is old
How would I go about not mitering the edges? Would the tile that lays flat need to come out about a 1/4 inch to cover the side tile?
Yes sir that would work
It's interesting that professional tile guys don't always back butter the tile. I always do it a prevents callbacks and failures of the tile. Which blade do you use? I get blades from Daltile not Home Depot or Lowe's.
The go board is not flammable? I never heard of it and didn't know you could put foam next to fireplace or tile over it
Will never be an issue
Time to read some comments. Here we go.
can you apply the porcelain directly to the fireplace or do you have to cement board over the fireplace first and then apply the porcelain pieces
We install directly over (roll some primer on it first)
Hey thanks! I was wondering what to do about the different levels of brick. Can you tell me what’s the name of the tile primer you are using so that I may purchase it?
We picked up the tile primer at Lowes. Home Depot carriers it as well. You can simply skim coat thinset to level the bricks or install concrete board. I would simply skim coat, let it dry and tile the next day.
Thanks so much!
Do you miter inside joints too or is it just the outside?
yes, inside and outside mitered 👊
WHERE CAN I FIND THIS GUY?IS HE IN OKLAHOMA?
Can you do the same thing with ceramic? Use the power saw ?
yup
Can you tile directly on to brick if it isn't painted, without using primer?
Yes, that shouldn't be a problem at all. We do it often.
Currently doing almost same style fireplace with same tile but it’s the glossy style. The chipping is horrible. Any ideas on how to not chip the glassy portion? It seems inevitable that it’ll happen.
It must be the saw blade, try replacing it?
@@LandbergTileTV thank you. I was looking into the XP4, I’ll have to take the plunge tomorrow.
Did you use thin set to attach GoBoard to brick?
We, we primed the brick.
I’m trying to find that polisher pad you’re using to have cleaner mitered corners. Lowes and Home Depot don’t have it 😭
Here is a review video and the link to buy is in the description box:
ua-cam.com/video/0A2179VkDTs/v-deo.html
How will the heat of the fireplace react with the tile? Will it last?
Yes, will outlast my lifetime
How much can I expect to pay for this is southern california? My fireplace brick area is probably twice the area. Thanks
Hard to say, I suggest comparing quotes from a few contractors who can show you photos of mitered porcelain projects. Never easy to miter porcelain.
i would recommend not using foamboard when installing around the fireplace. not up to code, but besides that, the work looks great. (fellow chimney sweep, whos expanding into tile work)
why not tiling directly onto the bricks with thin set?
You could, but we needed a flat substrate
What were you using for the spacers that locked in, that was trick!
Which ones? We used two different spacers. Levtec and RTC for the outside corner l bracket system...
Our tile guy that we want to hire said when you make mitre joints a lot of times the tile will chip and you have a lot of waste. Also said with the veins on tile you can’t get them perfect because you may run out of tile going in the same direction. How much extra does it cost to do mitre joints on a 11 foot fireplace going up both sides?
Yes, mitering porcelain is difficult and takes extra time and tile.
Correct, matching up veins is never perfect, but you can come close if you order extra sq. ft. of tile.
Not sure on the cost for a tall fireplace like that, but it's a lot of time consuming detailed work. Expect to pay extra, but worth it in the end.
@@LandbergTileTV If it is 11' on both sides and the tile is 12 x 24 then would you have 44 mitered edges? If that is the case how much extra cost should it be around?
Edges very vulnerable to getting chipped, always use tile trim preferably schluter
Yes, if you have kids/dogs. This was for a retired couple and we always provide warnings prior to installation.
Daisey should be pushing up the Daisy's by now.
Lol 👍
How much do You charge in average for something this ?
We charged $1750 for each fireplace surround, but it's different depending on where you live, state etc...
Layout is crucial. Slivers are a no no with tile this big.
Interesting... I’d have zero problems with that bathroom. Different strokes.
It wasn't that bad, the client was not happy though..
The vein stuff is a matter of taste....Some people prefer the veins not matching up...Just random like real marble. Most marble installs i see have random veins. I once did a job matching the veins and the customer didn't like it....She said i should've laid it randomly lol Go figure....
lol, that would make me crazy! I'm loving the match up on veins and movement these days 👊
You're right it is about preference but your client obviously doesn't have good taste. You did right. The vein should match but to each its its own
I count 14-16 mitre cuts. Where are the other 45?
I don't put all of them in the video brother
I'm worried about that foam near the fire
No reason to be worried about that GoBoard. It's a gas fireplace that will have the flame covered by fire glass (low heat) and the board is capped off by hard porcelain tile around the inside perimeter. Like I told Starr, I have tested Goboard with super high heat for 5 plus hours covering up a generator with minimal airflow (I have multiple videos uploaded on this). The Goboard has held up for at least 100+ hours of super high heat as a generator quiet box and has yet to heat up enough to burn... It doesn't even come close. I believe the fiberglass in the board is hard to burn (also tested it with a torch).
Looks fine, but does not match the rest of the flooring
6:48 mind your hand
Why would you put foam board on a fireplace? I sure hope there will never be heat near it. Sounds like a terrible idea.
It works great for a gas fireplaces, we do it all the time! Nothing to worry about regarding heat. 👍
8:09 oh...those lines don't match
god damn it sounds like he just learned a new word.. cool we get it.. you 45'd 5 edges.. relax little buddy. lmao
Lol little buddy
Not exactly a tutorial but more of a bragging video. Looks nice but I was looking for a how to video.
Too bad that’s not the Carrera look. Carrera has no heavy veining. This is a statuarrio look.
Starting a video with screeching power tool sounds is a stupid decision
Thanks for your input
