It’s quiet expensive to get CarPlay supplied and fitted in the Uk for a mk7, So I just want to give a huge thank you. You’ve saved me so much money by providing the link to the unit and the video on how to self install and to over come any issues through your other two videos! Amazing videos and mods done to your GTE, I’ve already followed suit with the CarPlay and Stage1 map. Next is the sweeping front and reverse indicators!
P.s anyone who installs this and the CarPlay is either too small for your screen/too big for your or perfect size but the touchscreen doesn’t work. It’s do to with your resolution! Change the pattern of the dip switches on the back and you’ll find a combination that works for you, or contact the supplier and they’ll help suggest different combinations. If you get an annoying static/feedback sound when no music is playing, then watch the Dutchman’s other video on how to swap audio to Bluetooth instead of AUX. You’ll get steering wheel controls and remove the static interference.

Hello Amazing Video, at 9:30 you pressed voice on the steering wheel, on our Golf this button isn't activated, just thinking if this will work if I install this device
What about basic FM radio functionality? Let's say I'd like to listen to my favorite FM radio station, so I switch to the original multimedia station. While listening to the FM radio someone is calling my phone - can I answer the call using the add-on box, or the original BT phone functionality?? Can I still listen to FM radio, while being switched to a CarPlay screen? The original CP/AA unit can automatically mute the radio and play voice prompts from navigation or switch to voice calls.
Hey, I need some help, I don't know if I'm crazy or what but I can't seem to find an order button on the site I can just check the details of products and select shipping but can't find an order button
Using it for almost one year now in my Golf Mk7 (MIB2 radio, Discovery Pro), I'm using it for Android Auto (AA) with a Samsung S23: Positive findings: - overall the unit works well: relatively easy to install and to hide behind the standard (MIB2) radio in the glovebox, okay sound (I'm not a specialist; I also did not connect the ground cable) & a lot of settings/configuration options. - it's especially nice for it being an additional feature to the standard radio: if one doesn't like to always use the unit (f.ex. if you share your car with somebody else), one can still perfectly use the standard radio. So it's purely an extra, nothing is being replaced or permanently disactivated from the original MIB2 radio. All functions of the MIB2 keep on working. You only need to put the media on AUX and longpress the MENU button (or connect your phone) and the unit starts as an 'overlay' over the standard radio, using AUX via your phone as sound source. As AUX is the only source, you cannot connect your default radio to your BT (it needs it for the Android Auto) and also the default FM/AM cannot be used (use a radio app instead). - steering wheel buttons: for changing songs and volume it works, for phone it works partially (you can pick up the phone, but it will then always trigger a search to connect a phone via BT, which it annoyingly shows on the on-board computer display). - tip: as I prefer wired, I hung a 1,5 m USB cable which starts at the unit, comes out the left side of my glovebox and which ends in the centre console of the car: this works fine. Dislikes: - rear camera (factory-installed): it's not working without proper intervention and it's unclear to me how to activate. There are camera settings but not helpful to solve the issue. I've read you need to connect it to the tail light wire which I don't want, to avoid doing things which I cannot undo. Rear sensors (beeping) luckily enough still work (but not shown on screen). Also, (depends on your car) if you put your car in rear gear (my Golf is a manual btw) and press MENU, you will see your camera again, obviously, as you're 'leaving' the unit. - microphone quality: not too stable but not dramatic. People on the other line of the phone do understand me, but they tell me that sometimes it sounds as if I'm on a far distance. There are microphone quality settings (echo cancelling), but not sure they make a huge difference. (there were also additional micro cables in the box, but those were to install an actual microphone if still needed) - automatic switch between day & dark/night mode from Google maps is NOT respected, although there is a setting called "appearance" which should check and allign with the status of your front lights (on/off). However, this seems an issue possibly related to Android/Maps instead of the unit. (you can google it) - sometimes (more or less once every 2 weeks) the sound of the Android notifications & Google Maps instructions go extremely loud, but sounds not from Android stay at a normal volume (f.ex. your music or radio app). Even restarting the phone or changing the volume of the car/unit/phone (several settings) makes no difference. It's usually solved the next time you start the car.
Hey man, that was exactly what I was looking for. However, I just wanted to ask if the rear camera and the steering volume buttons work. I really want it but I want to make sure that I can get the best out of it.
Thanks!, I have a question, what version has the infotainment?, I saw your radio support the NAV button. Then, if you know, I have the radio with the mute button, then, my question is, that product let me install in my car?, my car is volkswagen year 2016, is MK7. Thanks again, good video!
Have you had a chance to look at the RCD 520? It's a new(2021) infortainment system for VW MK7 MQB platform that is supposed to be plug & play for both mib1 & mib2 users. Comes with an 8 inch screen, apple carplay & higher resolution

Hi, I just got my mk7 few days ago, it was really nice deal. But before ordering Apple play thing, i wanted to ask you. Where in the Netherlands i can order original or which are best parts for big service. Like timing belt, water pump.. rollers etc etc. I live in the Netherlands, but i don't know where to order parts and which are best in your opinion? BTW, great videos... Thank you for making them for people like myself :) Thanks
This looks great, thanks for the video. One question, can you listen to your radio/DAB while the screen shows CarPlay and Waze or Google Map directions?
Yes you can, however if the audio is switched to radio, it is not connected to aux and therefore the audio that comes from your phone (in this case waze or maps) won’t come through the speakers. If you have a radio app on your phone, you can merge it.

Have you gotten any issues with people calling they experience static/tinny/echo noises whilst talking on the phone using wireless apple CarPlay ? Great video. Cheers.
There is a very low percentage of people experiencing issues, but most of the times it was phone related. Tested with other phone and worked better. There can be cases of course where the unit itself can be faulty, but in my experience you should have other issues as well.. Thanks!
@@ot2nie thank you for the prompt reply. I currently have this unit still using my OEM MIC. The supplier shipped an aftermarket MIC with it. Would you recommend the OEM mic or supplied mic? And you mention phone related, is there something I need to don with my phone? I have a 2017 MK7.5 too with OEM apple car play , and it’s works flawlessly.
@@stuart_wood yes OEM carplay is probably better and more integrated in every aspect. I use the OEM mic without issues and don’t have experience with aftermarket mics. Older phones tend to be more problematic with these units, but that’s not unique to these cartizan units i think..
@@ot2nie I have the fix. Been struggling all day. My Apple CarPlay Unit has a setting menu, in that menu there is an ‘Automatic echo cancellation’ test. Hey! Thanks for the video! I'm thinking about buying this for my golf and was just wondering if the carplay navigation works with the information screen in the gauge cluster? Regards!
Hello. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and it’s great. New sub. Quick question, what’s the difference between VW app connect and this? I have the same car mode in UK as you. And really need this upgrade. Will the system that you just fitted on be in English and work in the UK?
Yes the system is english and carplay will use the same language as your phone obviously. We connect will still work fine and i mainly use that when i want to pre-heat the car remotely😅😅
OMG 😯 great great great video 😊 I have a GTE like yours and I follow all your amazing videos.. my next upgrade is a box like this 🙂 thank thank you. Can I ask you three simples questions? One is when you plug the box he automatic turn on the lights, but this don't drain your 12v battery? When you use the navigation in carplay you can listen radio at same time? Last one is you can listen the voice navigation instructions? Again amazing amazing video 😊
Thank you for the compliments! To answer your questions: 1. No you cannot drain the battery, this kit uses the same power supply your nav uses, so no worries there. 2. You can listen to the radio at the same time, but you have to set the car to aux to benefit from the audio from Carplay, so it’s radio OR navigation instructions, not both. If you listen to music through Carplay, the nav instructions work perfectly! 3. Yes it works and you can also use the oem microphone to ‘tell’ the car your destination through Siri, it’s all integrated and you can use your Voice button on the steering wheel as well!
@@ot2nie can you please make a simple video how this works with android auto like you show with carplay ? I have android and I'm afraid that not work with wireless or not work so good.. I think other people would like to have this comparation too ♥️

@@sendibadsaid7931 did you end up getting this product? If so, where did you fit the box? I have an early 2015 GTI se (U.S. model) with mib1, MDI port, and Fender sound. Lots of little complications to deal with. If you’re using Bluetooth audio, it’d be interesting to see if CarPlay apps (like the text to speech on messages, or from Google maps) would transmit over bt from the phone, or if they would be produced by the CarPlay box. if it’s the latter, then they might not play via bt audio.

If it is greyed out you will need the aux ami adapter. You can use bluetooth for sound. But in that case you cannot make calls. Also not all navigation apps can use bluetooth for sound.

Can I still listen to FM radio, while being switched to a CarPlay screen? The original CP/AA unit can automatically mute the radio and play voice prompts from navigation or switch to voice calls.

Hi , I have a 2013 mk7 golf but doesn’t have Bluetooth at all will this device work in my car ?
Thks 😁
Yes. You can connect an aftermarket microphone
Using it for almost one year now in my Golf Mk7 (MIB2 radio, Discovery Pro), I'm using it for Android Auto (AA) with a Samsung S23:
Positive findings:
- overall the unit works well: relatively easy to install and to hide behind the standard (MIB2) radio in the glovebox, okay sound (I'm not a specialist; I also did not connect the ground cable) & a lot of settings/configuration options.
Dislikes:
- rear camera (factory-installed): it's not working without proper intervention and it's unclear to me how to activate.
(there were also additional micro cables in the box, but those were to install an actual microphone if still needed)
- automatic switch between day & dark/night mode from Google maps is NOT respected, although there is a setting called "appearance" which should check and allign with the status of your front lights (on/off). However, this seems an issue possibly related to Android/Maps instead of the unit. (you can google it)
- sometimes (more or less once every 2 weeks) the sound of the Android notifications & Google Maps instructions go extremely loud, but sounds not from Android stay at a normal volume (f.ex. your music or radio app). Even restarting the phone or changing the volume of the car/unit/phone (several settings) makes no difference. It's usually solved the next time you start the car.
You could try to install an intake or better air filter in the box
Yeah maybe, i’ve heard from tuners that the gains aren’t really worth it..
I have as well, but it is a relatively cheap modification and can give a pretty good sound as well.

Any issues with backup camera? Also do you have fender audio?
What is the difference with the activation key and this system? I know the activation key and installation in the uk is £270
Activation is better. audio, buttons etc.

Hey! Awesome video and explanation. Any chance someone has placed this unit and has Dynaudio sound in their car? Does it affect the sound quality of does it still remain the same? Thanks in advancen!
Yes, sound quality decreases a bit, because it is transferred over aux with this kit!
Bluetooth connection works also in VW infotainment? Or it is necessary to have bluetooth connection only with Carplay unit?
Is it possible to listen to FM radio while using Carplay?
Thanks
Yes, no and yes!😅

Hey bro, nice man I like it. Is it also possible for every car and with an android phone?
Hi. Do you have any restrictions using steering wheel controllers? Such as music skip buttons.
Hey I just came across this video. My 2015 Passat is having an issue with the radio screen going out and the reverse camera not working. Works for a min and then shuts off and resets. Will this fix that issue? Volkswagen is telling me it’s going to cost me around 6000$
My gf has wanted CarPlay in her 2015 gti since she got it new so this is a genius. My only question is how do I get one of these into the usa?
Both Motrade and Cartizan ship to the US, i believe (people have done before!)
Cartizan does not ship single units. You have to buy 10 at least. Motrade ships single units.
would this work in a golf gti 2013 ???? withough the navigation button on dashboard

Thank you for making them for people like myself :)

What’s the dip setting for a 6.5 I have tried everything but don’t get it .. I don’t understand the chart
Very great video. How would it work with android auto?
It works the same. See other video of flying dutchman

There is a very low percentage of people experiencing issues, but most of the times it was phone related.

There can be cases of course where the unit itself can be faulty, but in my experience you should have other issues as well..

To answer your questions:

In oem they work, in interface mode they will probably. it improves all the time

If you’re using Bluetooth audio, it’d be interesting to see if CarPlay apps (like the text to speech on messages, or from Google maps) would transmit over bt from the phone, or if they would be produced by the CarPlay box. if it’s the latter, then they might not play via bt audio.
