Thanks for sharing your story man! I wish more creators would talk about this stuff because everyone is dealing with something similar. I burnt myself out getting to the point where I quit my day job to go full time on youtube. And then i burnt myself out again trying to keep up with lofty goals and constant self-comparison to other creators while having a busy life and 2 young kids. It's an all you can eat pie contest and the only reward is more pie. If the main goal is tied to number of videos, views, money, growing faster, or receiving more recognition than other youtubers etc. it's never going to have a healthy outcome. So now I set goals that include those things to a lesser extent (for example, I need to make money to support my family), but I focus on more positive goals like creating more entertaining and quality content instead of pumping out videos I burnt the midnight oil to get out the door, being happy and unstressed day to day, being present with my family, leaving enough time for myself, covering topics I'm personally and creatively interested in and not just what will rack up the views, having fun etc. What is the amount of videos I can reasonably create in a year while still achieving those things? Usually it's a lot lower than I think and that's ok. It sounds like you've got a lot of stuff going and you've already achieved success and have a super-engaged audience that will stick with you, so be kind to yourself!

I appreciate the kind words! Thanks for giving a little insight into your life as well! I'm actually disappointed that more people don't share their real experience. For me, this video and the year of life behind it was never meant to be a "whoa is me", it was honestly meant to address the 100+ comments, DM's, emails, etc. related to me not posting at the same level. Funny enough, this is my only video with negative subscribers gained hahah!
I can attest to the burnout... It never hit me hard but I felt the pressure for sure, especially filming and editing for 2 channels. The thought of going full time sounds like winning the lottery, but at the same time I think it would consume me worse than having a career and doing this on the side.
I'd love to chat some time!

Damn dude that was some ride. That said, in every ride we grow which i'm sure is exactly what you've done! Do you first, because in the grand scheme of things, none of that garbage matters. You'll find that out when your sitting where I am at 60 years of age. Looking back on all the BS i've endured, it didn't matter!! The only thing that matters is YOU and YOUR FAMILY! You took UA-cam to a whole new level right there. Your content is fantastic not just because you have food images that make me drool on my laptop or because your content is so well crafted, but because you are authentic. I hope things for you continue to be on the up and up.

Glad to hear you made it through those rough times. I just found your videos of the masterbuilt 800 after I purchased one. I've watched you build yours and knew what to expect when mines was shipped to my house. I thought dang that's a lot of pieces to put together 😮. And I also knew I was going to need someone to help. I could've had it shipped to the store but I wouldn't have received it until this week. Having it shipped to my house it came in a couple days. Also I could've had them assemble it for free but I wanted it sooner. I look forward to seeing more videos I know you're very busy juggling all sorts of obligations.

Reaching out buddy, I understand how challenging it can be to juggle a job, family, and your UA-cam creator pursuits. You're doing an amazing job, and I admire your dedication.
Thank you again for recommending the Masterbuiltit's been a game-changer for me! Best BBQ I've purchased and I run that and a Komodo Kamado plus some Aussie made flat plates.
Since your workplace noticed your incredible talent in creating content, it surprising that your company hasn't tapped into that potential for their social media. I'm not sure how big they are, but I think you could elevate their brand. My Two Cents.

Wow! I wouldn't have thought that a youtube channel about grilling would be a conflict of interest with what we do at work. Back in the 90's I used to do a side job building control panels for my Dad's company.I did that for about 12 years. I even reported it to the company and they never investigated me. I guess that just means you're doing such a great job that they took notice of you. By the way I've loved working with you also.

Hey man, I've followed you for a while, ever since I got my Camp Chef ~2 years ago. You're my first go-to when I'm trying out a new recipe or technique, even before I go to Meat Church's channel.
But one of the reasons that I've always loved your channel is how genuine you are. No stupid gimmicks, personas, no phony personalities, none of that, you're just a good guy who wants to share his passion with others.

From a guy with a full time job and a full time biz on the side... I feel you. Before bookkeeping and a lengthy drive time, I am a solid 72-76 hours a week. Every. Single. Week. You are pretty awesome and I will stay tuned in. And so will all the guys I send your vids to.

Well you are a far more successful UA-camr than I am, or ever will be. Simply because you have ambition. I have career too. I have no ambition. UA-cam is just a hobby for me and I treat it as nothing more than that. I’ve had my channel for over seven years and I want to quit everyday. Yet, the enigma is I also want to continue it every day. 2020 was the worst year of my life. Two hurricanes destroyed my home and my wife passed away. I lost a house and a spouse in 6 weeks time. I wanted to join her. I almost did. Yes I was that low. YET, this UA-cam hobby saved me it helped me and fellow UA-camrs reached out to me. It gave me something else to think about other than tragedy. So I won’t quit it, I consider it daily, but I won’t quit. It gives this lonely old widower man something to do.
Thanks for sharing your story Andrew.

Keep your head up dude. You are working your ASS off. You need down time, you need to give yourself some grace and most importantly you need to be gentle with yourself. You have persevered through a challenging year and came out strong. 2023 was bad for me, lots of death around me of friends and coworkers. Dealing with PTSD and some pretty severe depression.
In the grand scheme of things, we are alive, tomorrow is a new day and today already happened. As long as you keep doing the next right thing, you should land on your feet. Keep making good content, keep cooking and if you don't love it.. it's not worth doing. Life is too short to do something you don't care about and doesn't make you happy.

No idea how much they are, but you can purchase additional. Not sure if that’s for more bragging rights, or for creators that are teams 🤣

Sorry to hear you had to go through all of that! Your channel was huge for helping me choose my first grill and get started in this hobby this past. Happy to hear things are looking better heading into the new year! Looking forward to more recipes to try on my Woodwind Pro!

Kudos to you for trying to multitask all these responsibilities!!! 26 great quality and educational videos are much better than 100 poor and pointless videos that someone else can produce. This is where quality is so much more important than quantity!!
Hope you have a great 2024!!

It’s a legit challenge to manage all of it! Crazy part is that I’ve been doing it for a while, but this year just introduced some significant hurdles. I would agree though, quality over quantity any day

Take care of yourself, Andrew. No job or side gig is worth losing your mental health. Many content creators need and take a hiatus from time to time. If it gets too much, do it. We’ll be here! 👍😉

That's outrageous! What could possibly be the conflict, you work a veggie company.

  • @spikelove9533
    @spikelove9533 4 місяці тому

I dont see it as your fault. The company dose not own your off time.
They could have investigated you with out saying a word by simply watching your content and seeing your content did not reflect on your professional life.
I think its truly sad youeve been guilted into giving up what is a fundamental American value. The freedom to pursue happiness. Unless You're an engineer for a rival barbecue company, its not reasonable to see any conflict, i would see the opposite the company should celebrate you doing something that reflects well publicly on the driven employees it hires.
I enjoy your vides im a proud 980 owner. You explane things well and keep things interesting.
Henry Ford understood a happy worker is a productive worker snd brought us the 40 hr work week . Todays corporate America could take a lesson and understand they dont own our free time. Im watching your stuffed tenderloin while making this response. Ive done something similar for years with skirt steak. Thanks for sharing some of your personal life with us. Keep up the great work.

Hard to believe but I made like 70-80 my first year while flipping a house hahaha. Talk about burnout! The truth is, those weren't even remotely the same production level as what it is now, so not ever comparable
