I appreciate that you use things that people already may have so they can get started right away instead of having to buy a bunch of tools.
I improvised tools for so long, I have nice tools now and still find myself right back with the basics cause that's what I'm used to. Lol.

Nice tutorial. I’m concerned that you only cured for 15 minutes. I cure most things for at least an hour. I’m not sure that 15 minutes is enough time for the clay to be properly cured. Your hearts are adorable and I look forward to more of your tutorials.
I use all kinds of clays but always follow the baking instructions. I've made several of these, some are 10+ years old and still good. I've had ones that I accidentally left in for 5 or 10min longer and they burned, so maybe it depends on what your using.
@gailjahn6269, I will agree with you. Usually the time stated on the packet by the manufacturers is 15 minutes to ensure that everything works fine and they are not blamed.
However, The longer the curing, the stronger the result. And as many times the project has to be baked, because of additional work on it, the stronger it becomes.
In the case where the project is burned, 2 things may be the reason. Either the temperature is higher than the one suggested by the manufacturers or there is a problem with the oven and an oven thermometer is a must.
Thank you, that's good to know, I read somewhere once that over cooking the clay could make it brittle, so I've always been very careful to follow manufacturers instructions. My oven may cook a little hotter too, it's old. Lol
@TheWoodlandWhisp, I thank you. Having watched many tutorials and by experience, an undercured project is more likely to be brittle. In the case of the specific project, it's a bit difficult to snap because it's thick.
May I ask, do you seal your project?
@TheWoodlandWhisp, No, On the contrary. Over cooking a project, it makes it stronger and less brittle.
You can make a test. Make two flat pieces at setting #2 of your pasta machine. Cook one piece for 15 minutes and the other one for an hour. (Get an oven thermometer to ensure the temperature is the correct one).
When they are cool, try to snap both of them and see the result!

Why not, it's small, easy to hold in my hand, easy to see and get to from all sides. Its broken, might as well use it for something.
@TheWoodlandWhisp OK, broken, got it. I use a 5X5 piece of tile. Got it at Home Depot for $1.00 or so. It's also easy to move around and can go right in oven. But if the phone works for you, more power to you girl!

Well I have an army of kids and 100 broken and outdated cell phones so it was convenient.
