This is the first video on bindings that I remember seeing why noting what input device is important to help you navigate where to make the inversion changes and other fine tuning and explaining the difference between absolute and relative. Thanks!
One thing I would also say is that you can bind the same key/ axis for different modes such as mining and scan and they won’t conflict with each other. You can also add double tap as a function. For example. I have my missiles lock on say a center button on my joystick. Once locked, I hold the same button for launch and can release missile lock by double tapping that same button. You can assign a double tab by pressing “Y” on your keyboard and then the key you wish to bind.
I’m jumping back into SC after a lengthy absences and I can’t thank you enough for making such a clear, easy to understand video about setting up the HOTAS, especially all the details related to throttle and thrust. Fantastic video!

I tried SC and can’t understand how people complaining about ED are moving to SC. It’s way buggy, the performance is terrible and there is one system. I’m gonna give SC another shot but I doubt it will be different.

@@teranmm SC feels less empty, I can talk with other players on the game, and I run into them more often in the verse, don't get me wrong I love Elite, it'll always have a special spot in my heart, but the grind to have a viable ship in Elite is terrible and makes me never want to play it again. Like I dread getting on because I still have to grind Fed rank to get the Corvette. Then I'll have to grind mats to engineer all of the modules on that Corvette. It's honestly the grind that pushes me away from ED vs SC, SC's grind is just credits which comes with normal gameplay vs having to drive around on a planet hoping to find enough of whatever mat I am looking for.
Thank you for this. The fact that the bindings options only recognize an axis, and not a direction, combined with the fact that the invert option and axis selection are in different sections of the setup options, as well as SC seeming to use forward _throttle_ and forward _strafe_ interchangeably, despite technically meaning different things, makes setting up HOSAS setups more difficult than it really should be.
I would also add that with the inversion settings, it is important for throttles and you may need to invert joystick 2 or 3 depending how windows assigns them as this is probably your throttle. (If you unplug your throttle or stick windows may reassign your device input order and screw your settings up, so if you need to unplug them do it with your computer powered off)
Also you can set custom curves for your throttle and sticks which allows for accurate movement and aiming especially if you are using a full fixed weapons loadout.
And finally if you have a tablet or a phone with a large screen download Gameglass (The basic version is free) this will make your life in Star Citizen so much easier.

Like so many other ED cmdrs it seems, I've been struggling here. Many hours being fed up with binding my HOSAS, and tonight was gonna be my last try before giving up on being a citizen altogether. I'm not the sharpest pilot, but geez. Astro may have saved me here. Thanks man.
Well, got my sticks set up. Took way longer than it should have. But my thrust direction is still reversed no matter what I do in settings (controls/inversion). I have to pull back to thrust forward and can't seem to fix it. Among other issues with flight controls, I can't spend another dozen hours trying to get this game to work. Maybe I'll try again in alpha 4.0? Back to ED for me. o7.

@@chiara5769 the biggest thing that I don't like is that invert throttle button, mostly because you don't have a very good indicator of your forward /reverse thrust and the way it works.
I find that using a HOSAS is easy and I don't need the invert button.
@@chiara5769 I like the ease adding a second joystick. The game just added it alongside the other with the throttle still attached. Setup a was easy and I got Voice Attack running last night as well. Starting to feel in control of the game now.
If you disable the Pitch and the Yaw on mouse. when you are in the exterior view (F4), you no longer have to press Z to look around the ship.
I think I set mine up like this. When I move my mouse around I look around the cockpit kinda like how it is in FPS mode BUT when i'm in a turret I can't look around.
2 questions...
Is there a way I can press a button to re-center my viewpoint back onto the reticle after looking at something?
and
Is there a setting that will let me look around while I'm in a turret?

@@TripLives Just tap F to centre your view. I haven't tried turrets yet, so you'll need to wait for somebody else to come along for that one..

Thanks for this, I’m having real issues with the inversion settings. I like my twist to be yaw, and left / right to be roll, and it’s confusing me. I would also suggest not testing your binds on the ptu, but the arena where there’s little consequences for messing up. Also remember to save a new binds file with every change. I set my VTOL to the same button as my landing gear. I haven't really came across a situation where I wanted VTOL and wasn't about to land. Saves me a whole button since I'm a scrub with a TWCS.
Reliant series would be a situation where you might want VTOL without landing gear. On a Reliant, VTOL flips the configuration of your wings to horizontal for atmospheric flight, whereas the landing gear control will actually set your engines to vertical (and the wings to horizonal as well).
Don't buy a reliant though. They're bugged. And it's probably because of the whole VTOL thing.

For HOSAS: You'll want to bind Speed Limiter and Cruise Control to easily accessible buttons, to use it to lock your forward thrust so you can let go of the stick when you're just cruising.

I had to watch this a couple of time but wow you really explained this well. I have the Velocityone Flightstick and all these buttons makes the game much easier than my mouse

Thanks for this tutorial. I'm just starting coming from Elite Dangerous and things are much more complicated in SC. Following your instructions, everything is working except for one big problem: my throttle is inverted, e.g. if I push it, I stop, if I pull it, then the thrusters start. I checked the inversion settings but there is nothing for the throttle or I'm blind...
In "Controls" you need to scroll along bottom right until you get to "HOTAS 2" then invert "strafe forward backwards".

I ran across something once.
The amount of keybinds stresses me out lmao. Got my dual VKB’s and had squadrons bound and feeling good in an hour. Moving right along to star citizen and it’s absolutely going to be a full day project.
Wish I'd seen this video sooner. Was having trouble configuring the X-56 to SC....lost a ship three times because the throttle axis kept flipping on me regardless of my settings. Was about to go back to boring keyboard and mouse.

Is there a way to configure a two-key binding? In Elite I have a bunch of bindings that require two buttons, so my hat that usually controls targeting can also control chaff, heat sink, silent running, and shield cell by holding another button. Is there a way to do this in SC? I was so frustrated by the time I got my HOTAS even partially functional that I didn’t dig into this.
I use joy2key to make my left trigger in right ctrl, you can then bind stuff to ctrl + button whatever, this will achieve what you want

I guess they've "improved" the settings in the past two years, because now you have "Throttle Forward (abs. & rel.)" and a bunch of different variations of that. I worked on it for awhile, but my throttle kept throttling back when I would push forward, and up when I pull back. I eventually crashed into the planet so I didn't get it worked out, but maybe do a revised video for 2024?

hello diablo1200ad here my hotas one is working fine but at the cost of losing control of the mouse in the cockpit
The problem i have is telling which device is controller 1,2,3. Stick ,throttl, rudder. Also everytime i load my saved setting and the controller menue pops up ,do i go thru and set joy , joy1, and joy2? For the life of me i have flown everything from chuck yeager and falcon 3.0 to DCS and elite and never had such a hard time. Great video Im going to try again tonight pausing this as i go… thanks for the great work!
Im really about ready to bail on this game. I load the profile. Things work one second then no thrust. Check windows and it shows all 3 In game i completely disabled rudders as it just refused to set. I’d buy someone a good bit of alcohol to come show me wtf is wrong. ( i live in austin tx)

Hi. Did you use any of Gremlin soft and Joy soft in backtask for all the buttons T1 to T7 and B1 to B6 like in Elite Dangerous? In one of you videos you've been using these softwares to make all the buttons work for Elite. How to make the 5mode work with the CM3 Throttle in SC? Thank you for your video.
Another one that was driving me nuts is that in Key Bindings the Throttle is called throttle but in the controls menu its called strafe forward or back. Very annoying if you just want to invert the throttle.

My Hotas (the thrustmaster t flight hotas X) has the neutral position of the throttle in the middle, and even "clicks" intop place there, which i find sueper usefull as i can just pull back for reverse

So how do you set it up for keybindings for both flight and on foot for hotas? I imported an xml too but still won't work for on foot with hotas.... We need more info bud.
I just got SC, And I use the x56, I was wondering how well the default x56 profile was for first time users and how much I would probably have to change to my liking. I play DCS and that's just one of my migraine points in any kind of flight sim's but it needs to be done. Thanks for the help in the video.

I just wish you could push elevator buttons and the reclaim ship button with a HOTAS, but no that is bound to mouse 1 and you can't change it.

have a std logitech T16000 joystick and throttle. Joystick is recognized, throttle is not. How to get SC to see the throttle. Perhaps then I can get it setup

Can you explain why you invert your throttle and use all the way back as 0%. I'm sure there is a reason, just not understanding it.
Hey fellow SC player here Im trying to bind the throttle foward but its not picking up any input what should I do?
I just can't get it done the way I want it.
I use a VKB HOSAS and the X56 throttle. My problems are that the speed limiter keeps resetting to default value so I have to move whatever axis it is assigned to to update it's position.
I also can't get a proper freelook to work on analog ministicks, the camera moves (and it's very buggy) as I move the stick and stops when I stop inputting on the stick, it does not go to the position where I move the ministick and then center my view when I center the ministick.
Basically it's a relative input, not an absolute input. Any way to change that?

i'm having a problem with the pitch, no matter what i do, the pitch will go down, so if I push up the ship goes down, if I push down on the stick it goes down
I just got a throttle for my stick after playing with stick and keyboard for a year. I gotta say that while the throttle is really cool for cruising, unfortunately it's feels really clunky during dogfights, where a HOSAS setup would be infinitely superior :(
My Throttle is revered and I can't get it to increase throttle when I move the throttle forward. Any tips?
I'm hoping to use this video to get started with a keybinding for a VKB Gladiator NXT HOSAS to keep the configuration *as close as possible* to my control scheme in Elite Dangerous, but was noticing that Star Citizen Alpha 3.14 does not seem to accept 'chords' or multiple buttons being pressed at the same time from inputs.
I'm so new at this I think I may be doing it wrong, but has that been the global experience so far? Do controls in SC need to be single button / axis mapping, or can we use combinations / modifiers in a HOSAS setup (Modifiers are on the gamepad setup, for example)?
I just jumped into SC. Still trying to figure out how to set up my Virpil.
I'm using throttle forward/back as I do have a centre detent which makes it easier to change directions without a faf.
I could not find the Quantum Travel (spool) keybind. They moved the Quantum Drive (Hold) to another folder and I can't seem to find where to enable it, so I have to press B on the keyboard.
Changing my inversion settings isnt fixing my throttle...it still only thrusts forward when i slide it back.
Are there ways to play SC without being forced into PVP?
I would like to be able to make smaller incerments with the throttle using the small stick ( same way it works for the speed limiter) is there anyway to change the programming so the X Axis can behave like a throttle axis.
I'm using VKB's software for Gladiator NXT
Also keep the file safe too bcs deleting the user files can fix bugs.

And any way to stop speed limiter from resetting and instead staying where I have the physical axis for it?
Once you've saved your profile, how do you load it again? It didn't show up in the list of control profiles when I made a subsequent change... saying that I haven't restarted the game yet.
