This looks delicious, I’ll be having a go tommorow. You do your onion your own way, everyone does it differently. 😊Thank you very much for showing us x
when i was 13 me and my brother used to have swimming lessons and it was a thursday after school we had to get a bus so in winter my wonderful nana made this soup to warm us up when we got home so so wonderful xxxthat was 44 years ago time flys xxx
Pea and Ham soup, my favourite. Here in Australia we don't see gammon so much in the supermarket but in the winter we have bacon bones or a ham hock and I make our pea and ham soup with these. Also I use the yellow split peas but I suppose there isn't much difference. Now I'm hungry for pea and ham soup and soda bread. Enjoyed this video.
Another Aussie here and oh yup, ham hocks from the butcher or even better (to me for some reason) those frozen leftover ham bones from the Christmas leg of ham. Yum!
@@tanialane1267How are you ? Good to meet you. I don’t think I actually know what Gammon is. We are in the south coast of NSW and I grew up in Canberra I don’t think I have seen it here, have you? Not to worry, ham bone is pretty good either way. I think allot of the allure of dishes like these are because they are hard wired in our brains to feed our bellies and comfort our minds so if our mothers did it, it’s golden. Oh and it would be lovely to have some after Christmas Ham but never any left at our place. I’d have to hide it from my lot to keep it. Ha ha I’m not that brave😊
Thank you. I love and appreciate your cooking, tips and videos so much and truly hope you don't change no matter how popular your channel gets. My only suggestion (or request, depending on how you look at it) would be that an ingredients list (and rough number of servings) was added to the description to make it easier for me to prepare for and then follow your recipes. Again, truly thank you for being exactly who you are! ☺️
Hi, Thank you once again for your nutritionist recipes. Love the beef pies. Beef and potatoes. Beef and cheese. Bacon and eggs, beef and ale and pea, and ham soup. Beautiful home cooking as always. On my days off from work, I watch your channel for hours. Have tried and tested all of your recipes. Perfect as usual. Excellent as usual. God bless you. You bring back memories from my mums cooking and my nan's. Also, you never waste food. You should be proud of your self. Will also continue my subscription to your channel. Unfortunately it takes a while for your videos to be uploaded to Australia. Aussie land. Please continue. Debbie.
That soup looks delicious 👍 I add a few potatoes when I make , soda bread is delicious we love it and so easy to make , I usually do half white half wholewheat flour and I’ve added all sorts to it including dates and walnuts , lovely tasty meal there 👍 nice one 👏 yeh a few sayings about the cross , letting out the fairies to protect the house from evil is another one 🤣 love the ikea spoon
Brilliant tea for a cold winters night the wind blowing outside and rain lashing down and your nice and dry tucking into peahsmsoup and soada bread yumyum love fran xxx❤
Thank you SO much for that tip, @stephenwatson2853. Southern fried chicken recipe also demands buttermilk. Would your tip work with this recipe also? Please advise ASAP. A yes or a no Would be more than sufficient/welcome.
I made this for my Christmas dinner this year with some pork on the side as I was alone and not up to cooking a full traditional lunch. Great soup and packed full of pea protein. Bought a crusty sourdough loaf which I buttered well and washed it all down with a nice bottle of white wine. Dont forget to add a sprig of parsley to the soup. Still got some soup left and will try to make the soda bread today. Im doing everything in a rice cooker by the way including baking the bread. 😂Thanks for a great video....Oh I also had some tasty cheddar cheese with the soup and bread which made it even more fabulous.
Hello Mand yogourt is great for making soda bread or sour milk is great too. I will give this soup a go, it was a fav growing up, real grub.😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼don't forget to let the fairies out😁
Just a handy hint - if you need buttermilk for a recipe but don’t have any available, just add a tablespoon of lemon juice to regular milk and wait 10-20 mins, and hey presto…buttermilk substitute. I’ve used it many times, works a treat. Thank you for your lovely cooking ideas. 😊
That's a lovely tea. I've decided to put all my powders like bicarb and baking powder into labelled jars as I find those containers they come in so annoyingly difficult to open. I think I must be losing it in my old age 😂🤣.
I have made it its the best pea sou i have EVER made a little time consuming but well worth it if you make any other soups please let me know didn't make the soda bread because i cant eat bread give your cat a love from me xxxB
Hello from Miami! Looks great and tasty. My dad makes it the same way minus the pressure cooker. Thanks for sharing. The bread looks delicious. I bet Devine toasted with a knob of butter. 😊 Thanks for teaching us.
That looked yummy. If you dont have any buttermilk, add to 250ml of whole or semi-skimmed milk,1 tbspn of vinegar or lemon juice, leave to stand for 10 mins, stir and use ,adjust amount as required.

I didn't realise soda bread was so easy to make. The price of it in the shops for a few slices is ridiculous. I'm making some tomorrow. Soup looks delicious. Guess what I'm having for tea tomorrow. Thanks for posting.
Just woke up to find a video. What a pleasant way to start my day drinking coffee and watching you cook. I think I’ll try to make soda bread looks like it’s easy enough for me!
Both my mum and Nana used to make pea & ham soup using two pigs trotters which you cannot seem to get these days. It was always served with fresh rolls, truly awesome and so filling.
Yes i agree, you're a no nonsense home cook. No going into the forest foraging looking for nettle leaves at 7am As soon as i hear the word foraging from a tv chef, I turn off. Such a delight to watch and hear an unpretentious lady cook, true to her family and areas roots. Howay the lads. Im gannen yem noo.
Hi mand, oh that soup and bread look so delicious, what a delicious meal. How do you make cooking look so easy and effortless. Loved Saturday. Love Marilyn❤️
Made this soup for friends weeks ago everyone raved about it my soda bread also turned out well got everything in and i am going to make it tomorrow for a friend who is just out of hospital i am sure it will be much appreciated keep the videos coming Mary i love them
@thedinnerlady9180 but you can make your own buttermilk its just mild soured with either lemon juice or white vinegar, I do it all the time when I make buttermilk pancakes. So simples!
I always use a ham hock to make stock for soups, I use 2 tins of whole plum tomatoes mixed with the stock and the cubed meat from the cooked ham hock, simmer for 30 minutes, then blitz with a hand blender, gives you a nice thick Tomato soup , I serve it with toasted slices of French bread piled high with grated cheese then melted under the grill, makes a good combo
I have Butternu Squash and Pepper Soup on today. We do a Soup Sunday and Thursdays however yesterday wasxmy Birthday so had a day off. You really cant beat honemade soup i now do mine in Preasure Cooker but still Roast or Sauté Veg first.
