Those tamales are not meant to be eaten with your hands. Here in Costa Rica we make those tamales with corn masa, a piece of pork, green beans, carrots, rice and a potato piece. Also wrapped and boiled in banana leaves.
Definitely not a normal ingredient in Mexican tamales but then again those weren't Mexican tamales to begin with so idk about the other latin ethnicities and their tamales , that's a bit different 🗿

Traditionally Peruvian and Colombian tamales always have an olive. They are wrapped in plantain leaves. Very different than Mexican tamales.

Everyone needs to understand that this is Facebook Market place food! Did they advertise those were Salvadoran tamales with olives?! They bit into something unfamiliar in texture where they were just expecting pork! and they didn’t even get a lot of pork on top of that! This stuff is being cooked in a home kitchen and not a health inspected place most of the time! Come on! 🤗

Those are Oaxaquenos tamales and those are banana leaves, not palm leaves.
My family is from El Salvador and we use banana leaves and I grew up with an olive in mine. Do you think they thought tamales were only Mexican? 💀 wild.

Those weren't tamales. They were Puerto Rican pasteles. Our version of a tamale but made with plantain dough. Not corn.

In El Salvador and Guatemala we use banana leaves to make tamales. And we don’t add to many ingredients. So when you saw a piece of pork and an olive it was not that they scammed you. It’s well proportioned. Please be respectful of other cultures. I’m disappointed in both of your behaviors in this video.
