Really interesting. I've never owned one but learned a lot. Some similarities between sovs too. I think a lot of people don't look so closely at their coins but something I've been doing more recently
I am glad to hear that one of my videos was useful. :) It's actually very easy to spot fake coins in most of the cases. Every coin has specific design elements that are very hard to fake. The issue is that a lot of channels are just repeating what has already been told by a lot of other channels. I always try to get new information from coin shops and auction houses. One example is the letters on the edge of the coin. I never paid attention to the edge but then an appraiser told me that he always first checks the rim and the edge and explained me how he spots fakes.
@@AustrianStacker A lot of your videos are useful. It is the same with the sovereign or Krugerrand, they don't have the 'security features' of the new Britannias but in themselves they are very specifically designed
Actually , this yours "original" thaler ... is not the original ! That s a restrike ! The original Maria Theresia thaler is very rare , and not shining like this . I ' ve got one as well ...of this restrike ! 😉☝️👍
@@AustrianStacker The Austrian thaler was so popular , in the whole Europe ...and more . Maria Theresa reigned long term ... 1740 - 1780 . The last minted , 1780 dated coin was like "standard" . And it has many years minted after 1780 !!!! Used like "buillon" . Even Afrika , and Asia as well ! And restriked since 1780 , until 1961 !!!! Basically is yours , and mine thaler restriked coin . The original 1780 thaler is very rare ! Very difficult to make distinguish between the "original" and restrike . But the "new lookings" , defenetly a new restrike. Those coins - thaler , was made between 1758 - 1780 !!! - originally !! So , what coins year visible , for example 1760 - that is defenetly old , and original ! And has a good value ! The new restrike , altulough 0.78 % silver .... has no antique coin value . The original made in Munze , Austria . But restrikes made in many places on the World , .... and was more 200 years used like legal, worldwide accepted currency !!! 😊
Where did you get the info about 1758 because it’s wrong. Also MTTs have not been used as bullion. The MTT was legal tender and also used as trade coin in Asia and Africa. Often the coins were counterstamped or countermarked. That’s what was done when a foreign coin was actually made local currency. The countries using the MTT did not use it as investment coin but as trade and circulating coin. That’s why restrikes don’t have any numismatic value. I bought MTTs in Asia and Africa that are so heavily worn that you can’t identify Maria Theresa anymore. Counter stamped coins are worth a bit more because collectors like them but still they don’t have any numismatic value. ua-cam.com/video/0hvJn9YcMbY/v-deo.htmlsi=wskUBrrq9UpaLsvI
at Vienna Flea Market you find fake Maria Theresia Taler without any writing on the edge, they only have "Riffelung"
It‘s interesting. The fakes are getting better and better but for whatever reason they don’t manage to get the edge done right.

Restrikes are still good for stacking they have more silver then US silver dollar
Silver Dollars are no alternative here. It’s almost impossible to sell US constitutional silver for more than melt here. Maybe on Ebay.

You are aware about the fact that all Thalers minted since 1870 are restrikes?
