Sweetwater, I listened to this example and it seems that even in a treated studio with a good singer, Sm7B still muddens up the low mids and does not record it clean. I hear the woo woo artificial boxiness (hum on transients) in the 180 Hz range. Do you agree with that? Please ask that sound engineer this question. I’d like to know what a professional like him thinks about it, is Sm7B really muddy and boxy on low mids or this is just my amateur opinion? P.S. The content of the video is great, the advices are precious.

Imagine a parallel universe where Kevin Hart is taller and an R&B singer.

Yeah, you're right Marcus, be yourself and let it flow. To much scripting these days. To many DAW actions.

Finally an artist who doesn't like the punch in

What do you mean by the “punch in”?

Ole school term my bad. It's when you comp a vocal track let's say I record the hook then go back and record the verse ect. Or when artist started to record one or two bars at a time. It's called a punch in. Purist artist like myself prefer to perfect the music then record all one take them drop adlibs and over dubs. It makes for a more organic clean piece of work you can feel the energy in a piece of music played that way. It's like when you hear a live show done well. Those albums always sound better than the studio version in my opinion

@@larryhinton6328 I’m a hobbyist musician and keyboard player, I record my songs at home. I understand what are you talking about, and I would add that the low number of takes, like three at the maximum helps preserve the energy, the following ones will sound tired. And the idea of creating the impression of a live concert really got me interested lately. Especially taking into account the fact that I use vst instruments of real acoustic instruments and tape emulation plugins, I’m learning how to create the effect of a real gig with vst reverbs like Relab Lx480 and PCM Native. Usually cutting a lot of high end in the snares of Addictive Drums 2 and reducing the room sound helps that. Or some samples in Modo Drum sound raw enough, so when I combine all the vst instruments, something resembling a real band turns out.

@@larryhinton6328 What do you think of SM7B on different singers? Does this microphone deserve the praise? In my opinion, there are muddy humming low mids of this microphone on any singer.
