I initially wondered how a trumpet arrangement of this song would come off, & then I watched the video. The first verse was beautiful enough, but the unexpected harmonies on the second verse had a genuinely majestic quality. Just beautiful. As usual with your music, I'm glad I checked it out!
It doesn’t get much more beautiful than this! Stellar work as always man. This has been sitting on the backburner as a multitrack idea for a while haha, I’ll eventually get around to it!
Thank you! I'm glad you think so! I felt like getting a flugel would help with some of the softer songs when the range isn't as extreme. I've had a few songs I've thought on doing someday on a flugel, so it's nice to do some of them now.
What an amazing cover for an amazing song! First saw the movie in like third grade, and I often find myself coming back to this song when I play the trumpet. Thanks for such a beautiful rendition!
I looooove this! It makes me missing playing trumpet. I played for 8 years and became very close to your level of expertise. I wish I could have time for playing and practicing, but #collegelife.
Thank you very much :D Ah, yes, college. I know that all too well. But as a music major, it was the stuff besides playing and practicing trumpet that I didn't have time for lol
I'm really quite impressed- This brought out the emotion intended by Rodgers and Hamerstien. However that said, I normally would use a French Horn for something like this- The second time around I found that the sum of four flugels together was just a bit much for the piece dynamically speaking.
Thanks! Yea, one thing my channel does is provide renditions of songs you typically wouldn't hear on a trumpet at times. I appreciate the comment, though.
Miss playing the trumpet. While this is flügelhorn, it reminded me. Took lessons when I was a kid. My trumpet instructors always disappeared mysteriously. I stayed with it, because every single one of them said I have "an ear" for music. I never caught on, how to read music. I know the lines are F,D,B,G,E and spaces are E,C,A,F but I couldn't remember which valves produced the correct note. Also my trumpet belonged to my Grandpa who purchased it second hand from someone, so it was missing a few parts and I couldn't make the slide work. I was kicked out of band in grade school, AND in Middle School because they caught on that I couldn't read the music. My trumpet, being used, and old, was slightly off pitch, so when the band directors had us play individually, they caught on that I didn't know the music. When the band played, I could play. Without them, I could only play what I memorized. I always wanted to play Chuck Mangione, 'Feels So Good' on my trumpet. I recently tried blowing it after not touching it since middle school. Sounded like an elephant in heat. It definitely needs restoration. I am tempted to just buy a new one, even if I had my Grandfather's restored. It would sit in the back of my closet too.
Thanks for the comment! Yea, coming back to the trumpet after an extended period is tough. But given enough time, it'll come back to you. You could restore it, or even just buy a used trumpet somewhere :)
Really love this one mate! This song always brings a tear to my eye. Immaculately played, as usual 😉. In other news, my lip has finally healed up after weeks of it being split so will be playing again very soon (unless I split it again in the next day or so like last week when I thought it was healed!🙄) peace and love my friend.
@@thetrumpetman hey thanks for your replies man! I hope my lip holds up too this time, but the proof is in the pudding as they say! Keep it coming bro. You have a great sound. Peace and love to you.
I played the musical a few years ago. In the trumpet part, the melody is written for open horn at pp. I always thought the flugelhorn was a better fit. More sweet and warm like a tenor voice.
I do want to try doing songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins, there's some good ones there, it'd probably be easier as a collab instead of just one person doing it all but then again, guess it would fall to personal preference and all that. However the biggest problem is transcribing the stuff as i've not really been able to find sheet music for the tunes in near any format, solo, quintet, band, etc
There's a bunch of great ones from those musicals! I can see why you have a hard time finding sheet music for it, though, because they aren't as popular as other musicals. You could try a site like www.musicnotes.com for sheet music. Sometimes if I'm transcribing something a need a jump start, I'll look at their samples they have.
I’ve been wanting to put my own videos together, but I am having alot of difficulty bringing the videos together starting at the same time. Any tips or tricks? I don’t have a set video editing software so any advice on what software I should utilize would also be fantastic! Beautiful playing! Just bought myself a flugelhorn as well!
Thanks! It's cool you got a flugel as well! The video editing software I use is Final Cut Pro X, but it's pretty expensive. There's a program called Davinci Resolve. I haven't used it before, but it sounds like there's a free version of it and you might be able to edit multiple videos on it. How are you trying to bring the videos together? I record all the audio in the same place, so when I line up my videos I just have to sync up the filmed audio with the recorded audio in my program.
Playing the right note is easy. Playing from soul is much harder. Congrats on your work. Please, keep up:)
Such a nice comment
Fabulous again! Thank you for being one of my inspirations n music!
One of my favorite songs. Always gets me teary eyed. Makes me think about my grandma. The Sound of Music was one of her favorite musicals.

Haven't been to Switzerland for a while. Your Flugelhorn-playing took me up there again on the snowy mountains. Keep it up and nice effects!
I'm glad that's where my rendition took you 😊 Thank you for the comment!

Gorgeous! Sung by a cover for the great Christopher Plummer.

Thank you very much! Get around to it then ;) Yesterday, you said tomorrow. So JUST DO IT (props if you get the reference lol).

Great job Matt!
Been watching you since freshman year of high school and I'm 20 now. Never fail to disappoint and a lot of your videos are things I listen back on. :)
Thank you for supporting the channel for so long! :)

Yea, flugel probably would've been better. That's cool you got to play in the musical, though.
A really beautiful piece and absolutely superbly played.
Where can you buy the sheet music?
Thank you very much! I don't have the sheet music for sale, yet. I made it myself.

Greetings from Indonesia, been playing flugelhorn since 1997 but haven't made any single video LOL
Great to hear from Indonesia :) Just because you haven't made a single video yet doesn't mean you can't make some in the future :)
1st-line E sounds in tune. That note is sharp and nasty on many flugelhorns. I usually have to play it with the 3rd valve.
I'm fortunate to have a nice flugelhorn :) And knowing it can naturally be out of tune helps to adjust for it.

Dont mean to alarm you, but thats not a trumpet :O

😂 I can't help it. My body refuses to make this easy for me lol
The struggle is real lol
