I remember the 1st time I met Huey it was at the Miami sea statium , I sat out in the rain to watch them , as everyone around me ran for cover. Afterwards Huey came up to me and said " we've never had anyone sit in the rain to watch us before," he invited me to come to the after party on their yacht and we became good friends. Rest in peace my friend. You are now a Ghost Rider in the sky.
Fabulous story. Hughie blew me away with his playing. I so wanted to play like that. He was so under rated by the media. For those of us that play, we know better.
I'm glad this is back up again. For some reason, these were removed. This music is so good. May Billy Jones and Hughie Thomasson rest in peace. Cheers!
These guys were keeping it rocking after the void that was left in southern rock after the Skynyrd plane crash. Always plenty of harmonies and screaming guitar.
And after Duane and Barry were gone too. By this time Southern rock did not mean much, in a good way, because these bands were world famous, and loved all over the world.
I love these guys , brings back a lot of great memories . This is the original outlaws in a lot of other bands and people have said outlaw this outlaw that this is the original outlaws , anything else doesn't come close ! See these guys back in the seventies they were awesome . The outlaws forever ✌️🍺🎧👍🤘😎♾️
Love it! Been enjoying The Outlaws since before this was recorded, Army buddies from South shared the Great Southern Rock bands. MTB, CDB, Allmans, LS, 38 Special, ARS, Blackfoot, so many…. Wow amazing. Guitar licks….Still gives you the chills from the great music. The Florida Guitar Army
Was always intrigued by Billy Jones. He was not only a brilliant multi-faceted musician, but also a talented mathematician and tutor. Very unlike what you would expect from a rock musician. The guy was probably a genius, but as in so many cases, in the end it was his demons that ended his life. RIP, Billy.
Lucky enough to see Huey play the Macon Cherry Blossum festival....not the whole band but played with Chris Hicks, a young kid on bass, and a drummer....the festival called them the Outlaws, I didn't care....DAMN they were good.....RIP HUEY
Great song, great band, their music will always be loved. Saw them in Boston, 1978, only wish I could back and do it again...... Love listening to their music.....
These guys opened for Boston at the Long Beach Arena when Boston’s first album was climbing the charts. I thought the Outlaws blew them away. Great band and great song
Best line up Hughie ever put onstage. What a band! They were Tampa’s contribution to the southern rock pantheon. By this time Lynyrd Skynyrd was gone, the Allman Brothers were falling apart, & Marshall Tucker was reeling from losing Tommy Caldwell. The genre was fading as it’s core bands gradually changed their sound.
On Jan 25,1979 I was stationed in Long Beach and me and my former shipmate Bob Wing saw Molly Hatchet as the opening act for The Outlaws in the Long Beach Arena - We had never heard of Molly Hatchet before this concert - This is my fave Outlaws song and we heard them sing this at that concert and I have the CD
Bring It Back Alive is their best album in my opinion. The energy on those versions is awesome! But I like all the albums until Ghost Riders. It really fell off after that...

Absolutely. Let's celebrate a band that uses the same name 40-plus years later that bears no resemblance to the band that was the Outlaws! Who cares what the tribute band actually sounds like, as long as they're playing the same songs and we can pretend we're listening to the Outlaws, even if we're not? SO let's hear it for mediocre (or worse) cover bands that refuse to call themselves cover bands, lest they won't capitalize on what the real band created . . . which actually WAS wonderful music. And for those who disagree, how about a great big WAAAA!
Dear Kurt, I meant the current lineup still does the music justice and that is wonderful. Can Outlaws music never be played live again? And the lack sound and video quality is attributed to phone. I share your love for the Outlaws. If you want to see a band butcher original music, check out the current Foghat. Much respect, Andrew
@@andrewsparr9287 Hey Andrew, thanks for your cordial response. It's appreciated, especially in light of my sarcasm, which you didn't resort to using. I tend to react that way when I see/hear videos of groups playing songs by some of my favorite bands from my youth, using the band's name when it's a group clearly composed of different people not doing their songs justice. I think it's great that the Outlaws' music is still played. I think it's an unacceptable lack of integrity, though, when the name is used as a cash grab to attract audiences. I also just read about Henry Paul's "leasing" of the name "Outlaws" from Hughie Thomasson's widow shortly after Hughie's death, the subsequent lawsuit, etc. I'd like to hear Henry's side of the story, but if what he allegedly did is true, it's really disgraceful. Doug Gray has basically been doing the same thing with the "Marshall Tucker Band" for almost 40 years. He's the only original member and he literally has no voice left whatsoever. Yet for some reason, people come out to see these guys make a mockery of the real band's songs. I'm not contending that this version of the Outlaws is terrible. I simply believe that while legally they may be able to use the name, doing so displays a complete lack of integrity. And I'm sure Blackberry Smoke could do a far better job covering those songs -- as Blackberry Smoke.
The Outlaws are so underrated and it pisses me off. This band crushed it,& even is metal punk kids likes this. Try segueing Teen Spirit into Green Grass👌🏾. Yeah, this shit rocks.
Hate when the venues dont get the sound checks right. Back up mics way too low. Other instruments volume also too low. Throws everything out of balance.
@@tomekkaz I agree, they are legends. The one small gripe I have is that when they played live, Hughie is usually pretty spot on to the original recording whereas Billy never plays the same thing twice and is often way off from the original recording. And since a big part of what makes them great is their lead guitar performances, it leaves something missing when Billy seems to be in his own little world playing something not even close to the way the song is supposed to sound. Some may like this... but not me.

Wow, I didn’t know he died! What a great story, the outlaws were such a good band…
I knew them for years.. ...still listen every day❤😊
Great story. Speaks volumes about Hughie.
Do you remember the date? Thanks.
Rest easy ol' timers. The sun goes down but the outlaws music will always live.

"Hurry Sundown"
Gypsies danced around the campfire, shook their tambourines
They were waiting for the ghost of an outlaw, Sundown was his name
As the midnight hour grew closer and the sky began to fall
You can see his shadow in the light of the moon
They had heard the gypsies' call
She had hair as black as darkness, eyes of emerald green
Oh, her voice was soft and tender, oooh she loved sing
She will sing no more, or dance again or shake her tambourines
They had taken her away, she was dead and gone, hear the gypsies sing
Ooh, hurry Sundown (the gypsies' cry)
Ooh, hurry Sundown
Ooh, hurry Sundown (the gypsies' cry)
Hurry Sundown
Ooh, hurry Sundown (the gypsies' cry)
Ooh, hurry Sundown

Silver devils in his holsters, stars strapped to his heels
There was fire in his eyes, they say that he was dressed to kill
He had hands as fast as lightning, a heart as cold as steel
He had come for the one that took her life, to lie him in Boot Hill

Billy Jones seems like a great laid-back guy. What a shame such a talented musician and person in general.
The Outlaws had some damn good songwriting.

Tapping up the big 4 from the Outlaws for our opening act in AC in April....great licks!
