These kind of projects(especially for competitions) offers unforgettable experiences. I participated in a similar model satellite competition(CanSat) during the last year of university. I would say it was the happiest times of my life. We completed the satellite hours before launch. And there one judge opened it up and explained something to his colleagues. After that the barometer stopped working(again). We had to change the program to start recording 60 seconds after it was turned on. For some reason there was an issue loading the satellite to the rocket, so it just recorded the inside of the rocket. Didn't transmit much telemetry as well. Antenna had fallen into the body of the satellite that is covered with carbon fiber. Issue after issue. But it was very fun(except one time I had to fight with 7 dogs on my way back to home, because I left uni at 2 am) and I learned a lot of things working on it. Just make sure to choose good teammates. Only two of us out of 5 was working on it. And don't buy cheap electronics
Great job you guys! I remember when I was in the finals of Polish CanSat competition two years ago and that was a super fun experience. My CanSat design was a foldable quadcopter powered by Ardupilot. It was supposed to activate in air after the rocket launch and then perform an autonomous return to the launch site. Unfortunately it ended in a crash, but nevertheless I managed to gather some atmospheric data. Fun times😁
I work at Rocket Lab and your video made me laugh a lot, and also sigh. My last code merge I fixed something and can't explain why it started working. I looked up KTU and wikipedia says it is the 2nd best Uni in Lithuania lol. Better than any of my uni's, no doubt. Congratulations on all your hard work together with your team -- I mean your satellite! Thanks for the video
5:15 yup, hope that the cansat team fixes those delays by organizing time a bit better next year. We almost didn't win because of that.... (yes, I'm from the other team, and ngl, I was scared a bit that you'd win because of the geiger counter..)
exactly one minute in, not only does the title sound interesting, the intros were *chefs kiss* (bonus points for the SSBB theme) then i noticed his shirt idk who this dude is but i absolutely love it already
Our goal is to inspire people to try and build this kind of stuff, to try engineering, and also, to show what is possible on an almost non-existant budget. Just saying, if you did some research you might be able to find some kind of makerspace near you - our recommendation is just to try to find some like-minded people, cause with a good, motivated team you'll never lose ! Anyway, good luck - Crayon
Imagine pulling a homemade rocket with a weather ballon, then when it reaches its limit, the line is cut and the rocket is quickly turned on so it gets you a bit more height
I feel like I have so much determination and potential that is unused. Coming from South Africa and attending a not-so-good high school, I feel like I’m not learning anything new every day. I wish I had the opportunity to learn and build tech in an environment that supports it, but I guess I should be grateful for what I have at the end of the day. I’ll still try to explore this potential, but I don’t think I can do it freely without working hard to live, especially coming from a single-parent household. But who knows?
Aye, thanks, our further videos are going to be improved 10x - that's production, video quality, cinematics... We have a lot of stuff planned, thank you for your support, it really means a lot to us!
Thanks for pointing that out, I'm new to editing - this was only the second video I edited with some effort, I'll be improving the production quality quite a bit 🙂
Please post part 2 I am freshman in highschool in America and next year I’m doing rocketry class and currently build homemade rockets and I would very much like some tips on it please.
Hey, here's the source code and electronics' drawings: github.com/ignuxas/Thunderclap-Cansat. It's not the cleanest and it's definetly not a good example of how it should be coded, as we had to do many hacky things to make it work, and the code was very rushed, but anyway, good luck on your project ! Remember: with each new failure, you only get better, and so for us - we are hoping to improve drastically :D. Good luck on your journey ;) !
What a fun experience! If any custom PCBs/3DP/CNC'd parts can assisit for upgrade version or part 2? We're open to sponsor and excited to be one part of this satellite! (PCBWay zoey)
Hey, thanks so much for the offer! We're currently trying to make our own rocket that will go waaay higher than the current one, we are testing and improving on rocket fuel formulas, and we're currently in the progress of making a fuel-mixing machine that would give us the purest possible fuel. The satellite is also going to be improved at least 10 times, we're planning to make this one of the craziest projects Lithuania, or even Europe has ever seen (while being on a budget :D), we would be really grateful if we got to work with you guys ! If you want to talk in private here's our email: thunderclaplabs@gmail.com. And again, thank you so much for the support !
All of us learned watching youtube tutorials, we started from small projects, got the hang of electronics and code, then, after a while we tried to do bigger and bigger projects, just learn from mistakes. Remember: with each new failure, you only get better. Good luck on your journey ;) !
It probably is, I don't know the exact model, cause it's like 6 years old now :D, this keyboards' durability is going to be tested in the next Crayon sniffer video (explosions might be a part of testing) ;)

interesting definition of a satellite
as a member of CanSat wtf is that supposed to mean

Looks like a russian GM Tube, sorta like an sbm-20 or sbm-20-1, but a bit different
It's an SBM-20 with it's end connectors removed, you can take them off by heating them with a hot air gun at 300C
ok what kind of contest is this, i dont know if they just dont have them in my area, but this looks insanely fun (expensive)
