Brookside was most definitely the best out of this lot. Broke many taboos, serial killers. It went downhill from the incest storyline and recreated many storylines until Channel 4 made it one night a week, at 11pm, for one and a half hours. They could bring it back but it would be kept to pre watershed topics instead which would destroy it
I was thrilled that Night and Day got a mention! I was obsessed by it! Had such a talented cast too with Glynis Barber, Lysette Anthony, Lesley Joseph, Joe Mcgann, Sally Dexter, Bradley Walsh & Shane Ritchie. Oh and the theme song was sung by Kylie Minogue!
A very popular BBC soap in the 1960s was The Newcomers broadcasted bi-weekly between October 1965 until November 1969 with 430 episodes made (only 5 exists in the archive), it featured playing regular characters amongst others Wendy Richard, Jenny Agutter, Judy Geeson and Alan Browning.
Where was Elderado, the BBC soap which only lasted a year I think. I remember when this soap started, ITV broadcast a Coronation Street special to coincide with the first broadcast of Elderado worrying that they may lose audiences. Turned out they did not have to worry. As radio soaps were included, what about Wagners Walk? This was a radio two soap which ran for 11 years between 1969 and 1980 I think, I remember my mum always listened to it and was most disapointed when it was taken off air.
@@MusicalPenguin127 What is a soap? The name was born in the U.S. in the 1950s, after the product most advertized in the daily dramas airing in the daytime, and made for housewives to watch while their husbands were working and children either were in school or having a nap. But a more precise description is a daily drama shot primarily at a fixed set, and by teams of cast and crew which alternate between the various sets, and between having time off. Unlike ordinary dramas were mostly only interior scenes are shot in a studio, exterior shots - and even some interior ones - are shot on various locations. Soaps also shoot on locations. But mostly are centered around their fixed sets for both interior and exterior scenes. Since The Bill, just like Corrie, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Holby City and more, had a fixed set for most of it's scenes - even though the was dressed to appear as a police station, not a neighborhood - and the shooting also alternated between teams of crew, named after colors (red, green and blue as I recall), I think it is accurate, Holby City being in this list, to say The Bill should have been so too.
Great to see granada televisions classic families here , this was a great soap which was on itv Monday and Tuesday afternoons at 3.25pm, later 2.45pm , from April 23rd 1990 to August 1993. It was created by kay Mellor. Russell t davies, Sally wainwright and jude law had a kick start to their careers on it. Much missed and under rated ... come on network , give it a dvd release
hold on, 1:10 isnt the lady paying her final mortgage, shes actually paying her cab fair (the right amount as she doesnt believe in tipping!). or did i fall asleep in the first 30 seconds and miss the bit about the mortgage?
I watched it all with my mom. I was surprised when it got cancelled so soon. But then again I was one of the idiots who watched night and day on itv. Kylie Minogue sang the theme tune. It was good but then descended into the weird. It went from twice a week I think 5.30pm itv and an omnibus once a week late night with parts that could not be seen at 5.30pm to a just once a week hour long one night a week.
That russel t davies sure made some duds. That springhill seemed wacky. I never minded crossroads mk2 but mk3 was dire, like a bad american soap, yvonne grace ruined it
I have been saying that for years. I get inside soap and from that you see every year there is a serial killer and marriages ending every early and five minutes later one or both parties in the sack with someone new. Try hard gangsters in it too.
I'm happy that Brookside got cancelled in 2003 and I know some people likes it good for them it's their decision. But for me I don't like Brookside because the storyline with Sue Sullivan and baby Daniel Sullivan deaths where Barry grant kills them. I hate the storyline in 1991. I love babies so much. When I saw the storyline I hate it. Neighbours is better than Brookside. Brookside is the worst.
The baby was so cute, but it was upsetting killing baby Daniel Sullivan off in brookside what the hell were the writers thinking and brookside. I would never be interested to watch.
@@thebigloc1 It sure was Ros Narun L 'O Connell ! I used to watch the bill and was upset when ITV axed the show, however I agree with Trudie Goodwin (who played PC / Sergeant June Ackland) when she said in an interview that ITV bosses kept messing around with the show which caused its cancellation, as I noticed how in the show's final years the producers kept revamping the theme music and the opening sequence all the time and changing the programme's timeslot. No wonder she left the show three years before it was cancelled!
Im sorry but infact im not sorry. Soaps have lost the plot why watch them is beyond me. In my day they funny no.political correctness real families End Of

I thought Number One was going to be Eldorado. Strangely absent from the list.
That's just what i was thinking. That was truly awful with only 100 episodes made. Also they missed out Albion Market
@@simonwarner6594 - Oh yeah, Albion Market, I’d forgotten about that one!
It’s a Top 10, not a bottom 10.
@@Justahuman-vv1 - Good point!😆
Thats more of a Euro soap than British

There was family affairs as well. That went on for about 8 years
I was trying to remember that one featuring a young Idris Elba!

It’s a Top 10. So Eldorado wouldn’t be on it.
I am surprised you never mentioned channel 5's Family Affairs.
You missed Eldorado. I absolutely loved that one.
How the hell did Springhill, Westway and Park Avenue make the list above Eldorado and Family Affairs?
What about The Bill? Eldorado and Family Affairs were shortlived compared to The Bill's 25 years.
@@Tvjunkieful12 not really a soap though, it just turned into one by the mid 2000s 🤣

I agree most soaps are shot in the studio but there are two exceptions namely Brookside and Take the High Road which were mostly filmed on location.
Brookie - what we call it down south - only joking - was by far the favorite from the list. i use to however also like Howards Way and Eldorado.
Albion market was also cancelled plus family affairs
Brookside was my favourite. Was gutted when they cancelled it in 2003

What, no Eldorado!? ☀️
A teletext soap? Never heard of that, sounds interesting.
I've never herd of any of these soaps it's good to learn
I thought everyone knew of Crossroads and Brookie.
me neither 🤗

You completely forgot one of the biggest cancelled soaps! El Dorado!
Where was the 'greatest' cancelled soap ever, Eldorado? I used to love that & watched every episode back in the early 1990s when it was on!
I loved it too. My mom and I watched it together here in Ireland.
Special mention to Family Affairs, London Bridge, The Cedar Tree,
Before even watching it, crossroads has to be in the list
I still remember the hand in brookside
Me too
Mrs Dale's DIary and Waggoner's Walker (radio but popular at their height)/ Compact? The Bill?
Waggoner’s Walk.
London's burning heartbeat
Emergency ward 10 ect
The bill should have made the list, I still live in hope that it will make a comeback while being very aware it would never be the same!
5:37
a synopsis of all 15 seasons of Supernatural lol
Holby City was not a soap! Eldorado should’ve been on the list!
Yeah it is
@@TCCGRACE777 Holby was a serial drama that wasn’t on TV all year round. Soaps are continuous all year.

What about Eldorado? I must be one of the few who watched every episode. They canned that too soon and should have given it more of a chance.

My favourite soap is coronation street
I loved watching brookside
And was sad when it ended 😢😂❤
Loved Brookside
I’m guessing Neighbours and Waterloo Road didn’t really count then
_Neighbours_ definitely doesn't 'cause it's Australian.
Well Neighbours is still going on for now
and Waterloo Road isn't a soap opera and its coming back
My favourite is Brookside. Now there another cancelled soap Neighbours which I also love.
Its now back on amazon
So Night and Day is like Pretty Little Liars?
Not really
Clearly whoever did this list doesn't know the difference between a soap and a drama.
If your looking to her depressed and suicidal just watch soap operas
omg , i loved park avenue
Still angry that they killed off Jac Naylor on Holby.
Love hpw nobody mentions take the high road.
What a lame list
No emergency ward 10
No bill
No london's burning
No heartbeat
No the royal
No bad girls.
Heartbeat is good, but I don't think it's concidered a soap opera
Those are not soaps
@@SayberV1 the bill was
@@redstephenpearce5597 No it wasn't. It didn't run non stop like soaps do, it had season breaks.

What about Family Affairs
i liked brookie but it went mad
Eldorado!?
You mean coronation street wasn't the first soap
Who hasnt read the title of this video . It's soaps THAT HAVE BEEN CANCELLED . As far as i know corrie is still running.
Albion Market?
No Family affairs?🤔
I got to say Eastenders then Coronation Street. Oh shit, I just realized I don’t like in the UK so I haven’t seen any of them.
