Anyone interested in CJD should look up work done by Michael Geschwind from UCSF. He came to visit my school because we've had several recent cases of RPDs most of which were found to be CJD. I've seen 2 cases on my general neuro rotation which I think is 2 more than I should have ever seen. In real life, 14-3-3 as it is not as reliable as specific prion assays like RT QuIC which are favored because this diagnosis is not one you want to get wrong. The disease is incurable and the progression largely unstoppable. The oldest attending in our neurology department told several stories about how scary prion diseases are; apparently neurosurgeons obtaining biopsies and pathologists performing autopsies on CJD patients have themselves contracted the disease, a testament to how stable the prion is against denaturing. There are even reports of funeral homes that won't prepare bodies of deceased persons with CJD. Really fascinating disease, terrible and incomprehensible for families affected
+waleed alshehri correct and the reason for that:" Serum ceruloplasmin levels should not be used for definitive diagnosis, because they are normal in up to 10% of affected patients and are reduced in 20% of carriers"
Dr. Bolin is acc. to wiki right: "Causes of easily reversible dementia include hypothyroidism, vitamin B12 deficiency, Lyme disease, and neurosyphilis. All people with memory difficulty should be checked for hypothyroidism and B12 deficiency."
It’s 2022 and these videos are still Gold. ❤️

Treatment of AD is missed between 21 to 24 min. sir kindly do the rectification/needful.
Treatment of choice is mainly cholinesterase inhibitors: donepezil, rivastigmine
sometimes glutamate antagonists are used ie memantine.
Can you please cover FTD because with FTD there are all kinds of symptoms. Ie. I often lose words but not date, time , place orientation.
Great video Doc. But I think that liver biopsy is the most accurate test in wilson's not the ceruloplasmin level. Thank you.

Isn't reversible dementia just delirium
Laura Med
Yeah I thought the same. Maybe if it is chronic but reversible, then that is not delirium bc lack of acuteness?
