Another fascinating listen! Absolutely blown away by the commitment of these men. We would all like to say we would be able to show the same courage in that situation but I imagine the reality would be very different. Really great to hear Seamus is running his own buisness and taking the steps to process all that trauma. Generally wish him all the best in life and healing going forward 💚

If NI had been established in 1921 based on one man one vote, equality in housing, education and employment, a police force that was non-sectarian, could NI have been made to work and the troubles avoided completely? I guess we’ll never know but its an interesting hypothetical question.

Yes. An older person who I know who lived through the troubles said that if Unionists had of made Catholics/nationalists welcome the Troubles would never have started. Its almost the same of what is happening now, biggest Unionist party can't stomach being second to SF and they are stopping prosperity when whats on offer benefits every person in the north. So what's the solution? United Ireland.

The provisional IRA became soldier’s because of the treatment of Irish Catholic communities, which were their communities. They were all of the same experience. Some in the community did not approve of the PIRA, but the very large majority of the PIRA was from those communities.

I was a catholic who grew up in the north during the troubles. I did not support the IRA but I do understand why it all happened, on both sides. I did not suffer horrifically as others did but I did face discrimination and intimidation from local Protestants , say, as a kid. The IRA actually made things worse in a sense for many ordinary Catholics as when they launched an attack that killed cops, Protestants etc, it was mainly normal Catholics like me who had to pay the price . I didn’t live in one of the republican strongholds like Derry or Belfast so my experience was pretty different

The whole conflict was run by British intelligence. The top echelons of both sides of the paramilitaries where agents and informants, and the British government is responsible for hundreds of deaths that didn't have to occur. It was only when the financial districts of English cities where bombed did the British government start to really take the peace process seriously. This is why there is such a push to get the legacy bill passed to stop the truth coming out on just how complicate the British government in in hundreds of deaths of their own citizens.
Brendan Hughes realised this and seen how many lives where lost in vain.

Darky was a hero i knew him and Angelo, scao dark never liked. My aunt was scaps mums best friend, lived in mullhallum terrace across from children's hospital. Rvh. I meet scap every week for several years as he picked up his mum from my aunt's. Tuank God I never talked to him. For me the problem is his mother was a dedicated republican she was a good woman im glad she died before all this came out it would have broken her heart. He may not appear as a great intellect but he can hardly be surprised at the brutality of the Republican movement particularly in regard to their interrogation techniques; There are many who say they make the Mafia look like Mother Theresa and their entreaties on justice might be juxtaposed with accounts of their animalistic and sadistic attacks. It appears a strange mentality to me that this person’s ire vis a vis his brother is not directed towards the people who did it rather than looking to continued criticism of the British. You can hardly blast the British justice system with access to lawyers, legal aid and a right of appeal and yet remain silent on an IRA “kangaroo court “- no doubt involving torture, ending in summary execution of one’s brother. That really requires a certain level of indoctrination beyond me.
If people want an insight in to the Republican movement’s “ sensitivity” this book might be worthwhile. It gives a sense of the exact nature of the IRA and Republicans more generally. The author comes from a prominent Republican family. What scares me is that Sinn Fein via their political position will probably be sitting on Policing , Justice and Health Committees. I look forward to hearing the case be raised the next time Sinn Fein talks about “ women’s rights “ or “justice” or “brutality”. Here is a synopsis from the website.
    “Rough Beast” by Mairie Cahill
"Rough Beast is shocking, important and unputdownable." Roddy Doyle

“At the age of 16, she was sexually abused by a prominent Belfast IRA man. When she confided in some friends she trusted about the abuse, one of them told the IRA without Máiría's knowledge. A year later the organisation came calling, and forced her to take part in an inept and grotesquely insensitive internal investigation. She was subjected to round after round of interrogations by senior IRA men and women, usually in a network of safe houses around Belfast. Doubt was cast on her account of what had been done to her. Her assailant was allowed to confront and denounce her. Eventually her rapist was permitted to vanish from Belfast while Sinn Féin and the IRA professed bafflement about his whereabouts”

for the tout scap to be a military 'Officer' attached to the FRU, he would of had to join the army in his late teens, spend at least 2 years away from home, and was he officer class? you would need to be a straight A student or close, in science and foreign language amongst others, for them to even consider officer training at Sandhurst. Does all this fit with Scappaticci's biography ? From the very little i can research it does not fit at all.
What fits is, he was a tout who volunteered for MI5 in 1978, there is no way he was a trained British military man inserted into belfast, never mind an attached officer, it just doesn't stack up, there would be records of him, lads would of remembered him from training, regimental pictures would display him, if he was a british soldier. It's either disinformation or pure fantasy. Im sorry i respect your man Seamus but this i cant swallow, as if The Dark, given his position, knew this information for a fact then somewhere the IRA would have the evidence to support it. Its all smoke and mirrors, for what reasons, who knows.

The Fru were mostly SAS personnel and had multiple Provos working as British Agents..

The interviewer should have asked him to further explain the justification the IRA gave for killing his brother. Yes his brother drove the bombs to the warehouse and he could have been charged and wasn't however lots of people knew about the warehouse. What the police did is an old trick and clearly there was a possibility he was being set up. Was a confession extracted from his brother under torture? If he denied it until the end then the grounds for his execution would have been very flimsy indeed.

WRONG. He was in Manchester in the autumn having made my mother pregnant with the obligatory 'compromise operation child for the elites incase insurance plan over Scap'. Im the child, iv had a horrific life of extreme horrors & inexplicable terror at the hands of the UK POLICE & MOD for the British Empire rulers & their Saudi Arabian King who bought me in 1978 by order & then in 1979 when I was born then shared me with his Dubai ruler defence & horse businesses assets partner. My father went back for November & Part of December to Northern Ireland in 1978 to run a mass of bombs & executions, he ran the entire fake IRA from the mid 70s for Whitehall, the British Empire rulers & those middle estetn dictators. I know the truth.
I am still mass persecuted & they are still trying to kill me & I am doing hunger strikes in Cairo for demands this November & December & failing demands met going directly to Ireland for Political Asylum & more hunger strikes.
