    The best video on this plugin that I've seen so far. I've had it for a few months and this now sends me back to my mixes and masters feeling a lot more confident, not only with what to do, but why I'm doing it. Great explanation. Thank you.

    This is the best breakdown of Gullfoss. Great balance of concept and technical breakdown. The song is dope, reminds me of The Pharcyde.

    i still do not understand the difference between tame and recover in any real way.

      Recover = Unmasking
      Tame = ressonance suppression

    Great video Matt. So good to see you’re telling the truth unlike most people who don‘t understand this plugin. Unlike Ozone 11‘s Clarity Module which uses pink noise a reference, Gullfoss is actually a psycho acoustic approach with the goal to shape the signal in a way which the human brain „likes“ music the most, in easy words. Of course you can overdo it yet it’s very powerful.
    Tame: Tames frequencies which mask other frequencies.
    Recover: makes frequencies louder that are being masked.
    There really isn’t one plug-in that does the same. I hear lots of people ask Soothe or Gullfoss but it’s totally different.
    They just announced another plug-in coming January. Really excited.

      I think I want to do a quick video that my explanation is more about how I think of the plugin and not really exactly what the plugin is doing. It's not really conforming to a pink noise curve, that was just straight up incorrect of me. The lit on Tame and Recover don't really describe it effectively. You'll notice that Tame not only reduces masking frequencies, it also raises the frequency content around those points, and Recover doesn't just enhance masked frequencies, it also reduces neighboring frequency build up.
      Yea, Soothe and Gullfoss are completely different.

    I've recently changed how I use Gullfoss. Instead of using Recover and Tame in the same instance, I separate them. For the Mix Bus chain I put Gullfoss Master at the beginning just to Recover before starting the Mix Bus processing.
    Then, later on in the chain, where I feel it works best, I instantiate another Gullfoss to Tame at that point. I'm doing that on Group Buses too.

    For the last A/B, it instantly made me want to turn it up. Trait of excellent mixes, as well as masters, imo, and then on top of that rewarding you for doing so. I think some of what causes the feeling of inviting you to turn it up is: having good dynamics above 400 or so (the frequencies (from top to bottom) feel really well glued together), combined with things under 400 being enveloping/powerful without being muddying.

      Hey, what’s up, I’m a blind producer and was wondering if there’s any chance that you’re able to make this precept for me in ProTools or en logic? The reason being is because I can’t see very well to follow along and it’s hard to see the numbers on the screen, if you create this preset, then I could adjust it With my own personal music using Apple‘s voiceover it would mean the world how can we go about this since I’m not able to paste my email thanks a lot

      One of the main things that my computer doesn’t allow me to change for some odd reason is the low frequency and high frequency from what I understand he placed the low frequency at 50 Hz and the high frequency somewhere around 10 K or I think it was 15 K can’t remember but regardless, I can’t move that parameter. Is there a way that you can help me out thanks.

    Though reading/re-reading the technical descriptions of how ‘Gullfoss’ processes signals many times, listening to your explanation was like one of those ‘3-D/Stereogram’ posters…suddenly the ‘hidden image’ just popped out!
    In hindsight, so simple (conceptually), but for some reason watching the display of ‘Gullfoss’ processing the spectrum just didn’t quite make overall sense until I watched your video…thanks for the assist!

    I really wish Gullfoss would add curves to adjust how much processing is being done in certain ranges, something like Soothe2. I find I usually have to use multiple instances to create a multiband setup because the highs and lows are always so aggressive, but especially the highs. I'd love to be able to make these adjustments within one plugin instance. Many other similar products have this kind of control like Soothe2, SmartEQ, Equalizer, etc. and it is desperately needed in Gullfoss too.

      Hey, what’s up, I’m a blind engineer and I’m able to change the parameters using Apple‘s voiceover when it comes to the recovery and tame and the normal parameters but the low frequency and high frequency. I am not able to change and I can’t follow along with the video is there any possibility that you can help me create The last result of his presentation as a preset and that way I could apply it in ProTools and en logic and change minor things. It would really mean the world any possibility? What drives me crazy is that I cannot give you my email since it will get deleted so let me know how we could go about where you can send it to me. Thank you so much.

      Hey, what’s up, I’m a blind engineer, and was wondering if there’s any chance that you could save his final result as a preset for ProTools and en logic since I cannot follow along, the only thing is that every time I try to give you my info of where to send it The comment gets deleted please let me know if there’s any other way around it we really really appreciate it

    I really love you approach to music, everytime you make an analysis i actually resonate with what you express and decide. Im really grateful for finding your channel, cause i often see you making moves i also make and that makes me really happy and confident about my sound quality. I can't thank you enough for share with us your knowledge! And also, I don't wanna be robbing your time, but i would really love you to make an analysis to a mix i made, just to know where I'm at at your ears, it would be astounding, if you can't, i totally understand, you have your time, but also, just to add, this can be a really good ideia for your channel too, feedback/song analysis series, where you can't rate and diagnose your subscribers/fans songs in a ln video, i think it's a good content ideia+you take advantage of the time you spend making song feedback offline. But overall, despite you seed this or not, I'm really grateful for you being so close to us.

    needing to EQ low mids back in post Gullfoss is just one of the reasons not to use Gullfoss. It will gut your low mids. I can't think of another plug that I would use knowing I then have to fix what it did with another plugin.

    • @DreamsongsProductions
      @DreamsongsProductions Рік тому +2

      That's cause people over use it. That's exactly what happens when you go nuts above 20 on both Recover and Tame. I use the regular Gullfoss on my Stereo Buss with both Tame and Recover between 15-20 and mix with that on. Then when I'm mastering my own mix I need a bit more fine tuning and use the Gullfoss Master minimally, like between 2-3 max. If you receive a mix without a Gullfoss on it then you can go a bit higher with the Master version but not over 10-15. That's the best way to use it it and it's extremely helpful to add clarity and separation when not overused.
