Levon Helm sang lead for this song with The Band. There's a version from the film "The Last Waltz" that features The Band and The Staple singers that's really good.
"Really good" is the understatement of the year!! It is LEGENDARY and gorgeous! :)
I've watched this so many times and I'm always amazed! Love it. Thanks for the reaction! 😎✌️
"The Weight" is an original song by the Canadian-American group the "Band" that was released in 1968. This is the music of my youth. This is a great rendition of the song & great collaboration by artists from around the world. Proves that Music is a universal language.
Outstanding, outstanding. A fantastic song with a deep down meaning and musicians rocking rocking rocking it out. And don't we love Char in Japan? He looks like a California guitar god. He's actually a Japanese guitar god!!! 😀😀😀
The Band was originally the band for singer song writer Bob Dylan and after no longer touring with Bob they continued on as The Band. I was fortunate enough to have seen them in concert in the early 80's it was a great show. I'd love for you to check out the live version of the song with the Staples singers joining them, it is from the Last Watz which showcased several other artists joining them on stage, it was epic.
I'll send you a link. I knew you were going to be pleased when you saw Marcus King, kind of the reason I picked this particular one and the other one I left features Warren Haynes. Great day Lyle
*PEACE*
The Band w/Levon Helm ( Drummer/Singer/Songwriter/Actor )
from The Last Waltz.... as a matter of fact set aside 4 hours & watch...
The Last Waltz concert, trust me you will love every minute of it ✌😎
Wonderful reaction! G’day mate!
Incredible! Music truly is the "Universe"al language. Really loved this.
Lukas Wilson (from Austin near the end of the video) is Willie Nelson's son and one of the producers (who also plays on some PFC videos) is Sebastian Robertson, Robbie's son.
You are the first one I’ve seen recognize a participant on this! I watch a lot of reactions to this and nobody seems to notice Willie Nelsons son, such an awesome collection of artists. A truly moving and inspiring song ❤️
Absolutely love this video.
Thanks for doing this great song and yes, please do more!
Another great PFC video is Ripple.
Okay this has Larkin Poe in it. You really need to check them out. Blues. Megan plays lap steel (a relative of the pedal steel that Avi introduced in his First Place I Go) but she likes to move around stage so she has a unique strap arrangement to do that. Rebecca is the other musician. Massively talented obviously or they would not have been part of this. "Bleached Blonde Bottle Blues" is a good one and they have one called "Mad as a Hatter" that is unique and you would probably like a great deal.
nice pic Pat, i agree Marcus is the truth. hope you get to see him some day!
The Band is absolutely right and they are worth your attention. 4 Canadians and an American.....
whoever does the mixing on these songs is outstanding
LOVE Playing for change...I've been following them since their first release "Stand by me" ..thank you! ^i^
You have to understand this is one of the finest songs ever written.
John Paul Jones and the Playing for Change group doing "When the Levee Breaks"
Now that you have stirred that up in me again I will have to watch it 10 more times. Thanks really loved it. #CREEKSQUAD How about throw in a little Upchurch some times. Country, Rap and Rock. Take your pick.
The Playing for Change UA-cam channel has 2 videos that explore the making of the video for the Weight. They may not be great reaction videos, but they’re definitely worth watching. You get to hear the various artists and producers who contributed to this video and their connection to the song. Don’t know if you have already watched the Playing for Change video of When the Levee Breaks, but that is another excellent one.
Another great "Playing For Change" song is Listen To The Music featuring The Doobie Brothers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Here's the link. ua-cam.com/video/t4sK8d48Exs/v-deo.html
Kudos to Robbie Robertson. rip
The original version of the Weight is great... but it's the 3rd best version. Great reaction!
Been watching this for a while.
You shoulc check out Playing for Change-Everyday People-By the way, The Band used to be Bob Dylan's Band, Lukas Nelson is Willie Nelson's son, and Robbie Robertson wrote this song.
Considered the best hippie song of all time 😎
Playing for Change, Listen to the Music.
They did a cover of bob dylan/jimi Hendrix's "all along the watch tower"
Become a member of Playing For Change , & it will give you access to all their music . I’m a very old widowed lady & P F. C. has filled my life with joy . Margaret U.K.
Love to see Lukas Nelson
The older he gets, the more he looks like his grandfather, Willie Nelson
When the Levee Breaks w/John Paul Jones and others. That's your next one!!
Not stopping.
Music unites, and I think we need that more than ever now. Here's another good one from Playing For Change "Biko" by Peter Gabriel, honoring Steven Biko, South African anti-apartheid activist murdered by police: ua-cam.com/video/jWNEr4eHL18/v-deo.html
👍
great reaction
I still prefer the original version on The Band’s first record, “Music From Big Pink,” where the great song came out of nowhere and changed music forever.
Amazing!
Robbie Robertson has the sole writing credit for this song but it was a collaboration of The Band members. That caused a little contention. The Band was one of Bob Dylan's backing bands for a bit and was always introduced as, the band. So, when they went out on their own again, they renamed themselves, The Band. This song is inspired by people they knew. The girls in Jamaica are singing in front of Bob Marley's old home. Lucas Nelson (Crazy Chester verse) is the son of Willie Nelson. Levon Helm and Rick Danko sang the leads in the studio version, which is the cleanest version; however, the most inspirational version is from the documentary, The Last Waltz, about their final performance as, The Band. The Band albums that are a must listen are Music From Big Pink and The Band.
The two ladies, Sherieta Lewis and Roselyn Wilson, are veteran backup singers for two of Bob's kids
You should do some songs actually performed by The Band.
Have You Reacted to When The Levee Breaks with John Paul Jones? Zepplin cover and its Stunning. Thanks for the awesome reaction friend. ❤
Good stuff !
Not for nothing, but I spotted this video just now and decided to watch it. While I can understand you fine, I watch all videos with captions because I'm partially deaf and thus its *hearing* you I have problems with.
You should see what the automatic captioning is doing with your accent. 😂 "Lesbian this is going to be the white song along the whirl." Your accent defeated the caption bot!
And so we had this minister of health who told us at the first lockdown to Just put on a dvd if you had the need for culture to stay healthy…
and Country Road
I love Playing for Change. Robbie Robertson's son produced this for his father to honor the anniversary.
There's a live version of I'D RATHER GO BLIND LIVE IN AUSTRALIA. ua-cam.com/video/q9v7RmBRL2A/v-deo.html I'm telling you so amazing! The girls in this one in last verse are singing in front of Bob Marley's childhood home.
Char doesn't get enough credit really, the man is a major name in Japanese rock, sort of the Japanese Eric Clapton
Robbie is the song writer not singer.
Thanks for stopping this song in the middle.
