I just sent a little message to Geoff that you had reacted to this and loved it. It’s a shame it isn’t getting the views it deserves 😊 it’s gorgeous, folk are missing out on hearing this heartfelt song ❤
This is one of the songs Geoff Layne Earl and Mykal used to sing when they founded the group in 1997 under the name 4thelove. They sang on street corners and in front of businesses. They were in high school. In 2000 Scott Porter joined as their beatboxer and the name changed to 4:2:Five. In 2002 Mykal left for a very successful career in Broadway. In 2003 Scott left for acting career. They changed to Voiceplay in 2010.
This one is so gorgeous - vocally and emotionally. I've listened to/ watched it it a LOT. It's common to tell someone to "listen to their better angels." Right now, I think VoicePlay is modeling the role of our better angels for a lot of folks here in the US.
Thanks for this VoicePlay reaction! I love, love, love this one and it deserves more attention. So fitting that they are literally standing beside each other as they sing "Stand By Me." Mykal is the perfect collaborator with a fabulous voice. The guys say that they believe they sang this back in the day when Mykal was in the group and they were very young, often singing on street corners or outside shops. Layne, Cesar, Eli, and Geoff all sound great, but that is always a given. This was Layne's project and love it when we get him singing some of the lyrics. Geoff said recently that those hand transitions aren't as easy as they look...not that I think that they look particularly easy. A lovely song with a beautiful message about true friendship.
Cesar was the only one in the group that Mykal hadn’t met before filming Be Prepared. But they hit it off right away, and by the time they filmed this that last hug was genuine.
I feel as if they are ‘standing’ with us on this one. Yes, I admit I kind of melted when Cesar turned to look at Layne and Geoff. And then when Eli put his hand on Layne’s shoulder (as the mountains tumble to the sea). Mykal’s ethereal highs that even became a stronger, more insistent, almost gospel tone. And that ending hug? This is just gorgeous.
I’m recommending this to everyone because I think Mykal is so hugely talented but you should check out his performance of “Stars and the Moon”. He’s got such a great voice and stage presence. He also did a track on Lin Manuel Miranda’s “Warriors” album called “Quiet Girls” which shows off his versatility. He’s just perfect on this track (they all are who are we kidding) and genuinely seems like such a nice person from the bts. ❤
Exactly the message the world needs right now...🫂 Mykal has an oustanding voice - apparently they sang this when he was still part of the original "Voiceplay" (4thelove) - so it is quite fitting that they redid this with him now - beautiful Layne arrangement and we got a bit of him singing too! Thanks for the reaction and hope you are well Lyle. 🌹🕊
There is a much better more classic version done by three siblings, LIFE IN 3D, 2 brothers and a sister and they knock this song out of the park !!! check em out is less all the crap and vocal gymnastic and goofing around !! !

they certainly do show the love it comes across in everything they do ❤
I love this one and have been kinda disappointed by how few people - reactors included - have given it a listen, so this video makes me very happy!

So beautiful! Mykal was an original member, so good to see him with the group again! He has a solo album, you may be interested in checking that out.

BTW - you might want to check one of their new shorts “Beautiful Things” Eli just WAILS!!!! I love it.
That end hug doesn't quite show the other side... where his other arm is around Geoff ❤

This is just gorgeous, thanx for reacting to it. I always appreciate you!!
🤣🤣🤣this reminds me of the old Timon and Pumba cover of the same song!
That was GORGEOUS!!!

Does anyone know what Mykal is doing these days ? He's such a good singer. 💜
Mykal has stayed very busy with his work on Broadway and his R&B solo work as well.
@acorrado5529 Thanks for the info I didn't know about Voiceplay till the Sing- Off. I'll have to check out some of their older songs. 🎶🎶😁
Also, when do you think you’ll get a chance to react to the RWBY Uptown Funk amv?
