14 year old me riding home on the buss in the back, knees against the back of the seat with my long hair covering my face listening to the song and getting lost in my own world. Disturbed saved my life and hearing this song again took me back to a mind set I totally forgot I had.
I am 60 years old. I was upset that my grandson was listening to "Disturbed", until I heard "Sounds of Silence", which caught my attention. I started researching and reading about David Drainman and maybe I was wrong! I read and listened to some of his songs. I grew up with 1970's Rock and the sound of "Disturbed" was, well, disturbing. But basically it is ok. I was shocked that "Prayer" was based on the plights of Job... Very Interesting...David Drainman, grandma says your ok to listen to.
That makes you an awesome grandma lol. Most grandparents I've known (mostly my own) cant stand, and don't care to listen to or understand the songs, lyrics, meanings behind the songs... But the fact that you actually took the time to do research and came to understand that disturbed isn't, I quote my grandmother, "Devil music" just shows that you care very much for your grandson and his upbringing :) which is more then I can say for some parents these days
My mom is close to the same age you are, she turns 56 this month, and she didn't care much for Disturbed either until I played "Sounds Of Silence" for her and she was actually pleasantly surprised at their take on it! Of course with my mom not being much of a metal head unlike me, the only other song from them that I could get her to listen to was "Land Of Confusion" and I also had her listen to "Darkness" and she did like those two, but with some of my favorites being "Stricken", "Voices", "Stupify", "Remember", "Prayer", "Deify", and "I'm Alive" those were all what she said as quote "Too heavy" I said "Mom, you listen to Metallica's "Black Album" and the Megadeth song "Symphony Of Destruction" and Disturbed is too heavy? I'm surprised you don't think of Linkin Park as too heavy!"

They don't realize korn, linkin park, deftones, papa roach, staind and limp bizkit actually helped me in rough time at my teenager. Thanks to those bands

Disturbed did a break away concert in Ozark, MO with Mudvayne, Linkin Park, PaPa Roach and Slip Knot at the Ducks Stadium..I was so lucky to catch this show in the Ozark Mountains in 2001. The dude sounds EXACTLY like this live... He classically trained before trying out for "Disturbed".

See, all the people that give aggressive music a bad rap, this video is a great example of how damn therapeutic it is. At least he didn't shoot up the place or get all his screwed up fantasies done. What'd he do? He went and bonded with the boys and it made everything all-right. It's pretty much the same that competitive sports allows as a psychological outlet for any existing frustrations about life, except in a more visceral, artistically expressive format. I don't really go to heavy music shows any more. But back in my younger days... What a life saver they were!
