Recently a herd of Aprilia Tuono's stopped for respite at Dave's sport chock. We compiled them for your enjoyment. Even if you don't ride a Tuono, there are plenty of basic suspension tuning principles on display.

I love these videos. Its teaching me a lot about setting up my bike. I recently picked up a 2018 R1, and I asked the dealership before I left if they could call a tech to set the suspension up, and they looked at me like I had two heads. that's when I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me. Keep up the awesome work, and I look forward to your next video.

    Gen 1 tuono.
Rear suspension feels very hard, bike feels like its skipping over bumps when going over bumps, on nice smooth tarmac bike feels great.

Front feels ok, but I haven't a clue how to set up front suspension.

Rebound is a little bit too fast?

    • @catalystreactionsbw

On most models, yes rebound is too fast with showroom settings and as oil ages, that trend continues unless you keep it in check :)

Did you realize that the TC will be changed when you lower the clutchlever on atuono or rsv4? The button will be pressed every time you pull the lever untill there is no more support by the TC. Sadly this is not well done by aprilia, but your advice might be even worse in this case.

Absolutely. I had a 2013 RSV$R APRC LE and that was the very first thing I noticed back then in regards to the limitation of the clutch perch. Very frustrating - but that led to the PlayStation device that took its place allowing better wrist alignment.

Dave Williams, editor, replying here. Excellent tip. Sometimes it actually does take a village.

Suspension really is a dark art for most road risers.. I have been riding 32 years and still don’t trust myself to fiddle with settings..🙈

Put a cable tie on the right fork leg and see how much travel is used. Take one adjuster at a time and go in .5 turn increments or corresponding clicks and see if the bike feels better.

@@catalystreactionsbw Already have one on the RSV (Factory with Ohlins) but not on my ZX12R or Fireblade.. Thanks, appreciate that. I tend to ride the RSV more, but will add cable ties to other 2 and see where they're at.. The Fireblade is really soft at the front, but I recently had the forks serviced, oil & seals. I appreciate the advice & will be braver with the fiddling 😄👍
