    PSA: you can get a Fuji XH1 with the 16-55mm 2.8 AND the battery grip for 1.7k right now. If you're gonna go APS-C, go Fuji. If you're gonna go Sony, go full-frame.

      Yeah save the money, get a bigger (bulkier) camera with a bigger lens alternativ and batterylife that's not as good even with two batteries at once. Oh and worse AF.

      Unfortunately, the AF and stability of the camera is nowhere near any of these Sonys.

    • @jonuiuc
      @jonuiuc 5 років тому +1

      Continuous AF in video is a little more consistant on sonys by default. If set up for scene on xh1 it's about the same. In photos AF is same. For photos xh1, has better shutter, significantly better tougher sealed build, more than any song full or apsc. Most importantly has more complete lineup of lenses. The IBIS on the xh1 is better than the Sony e mounts, but not as good as 4/3 Ibis. If battery life, flippy screen, face tracking in video, and lightness is your priority prob 6400. If lens selection, robustness, quiet shutter, better Ibis is your priority and you can live with weight, xh1. You pretty much need the battery grip on the xh1 for any extended video shooting though, it's pretty much a pro body, but most people are not pros.

      @@jonuiuc Fuji has never caught up to Sony in AF. They might have come close to the A6300/A6500 generation with the X-T3, but the A6100/A6400/A6600 generation is on a completely different level, using the same AF algorithms as the A9. This also extends to video, where Eye AF is a part of Real Time AF Tracking. Just point the focus area at a subject, and the camera will handle all of the focus mode switching for you in an incredibly accurate way.

      Exactly my thoughts. Sony full frame is not that expensive to get in and the lenses are, not counting the G Master series, about the same price if you stay out of the very cheap entry lineup.
      The price level of the A6100 still makes some sense, but the A6600 and the A6500 before that are just too expensive.
      If it is all the same, I would go for full-frame. And for APS-C, the Fujis have a good lens selection and you gotta love 'em for their looks.

    The last thing you mentioned makes sense. Sony has the lead in AF and tracking technology now. So they’re implementing it across their entire ranges of cameras ASAP, updating most models.
    The A6100 feels like a much needed update to have it up with the rest in terms of colour science, video capabilities and focussing.
    People are eager for that A7SIII, certainly in light of what Panasonic is developing. But Sony is claiming their King of AF title in the market first to get a strong foothold for all types of consumers. Pro video people will have to be a little more patient.

      Literally all they have to do at this point is add 10-bit video and a full sized HDMI port to their a7 line of cameras and they're competitive again. If they're worried about protecting their FS5/FS7, the selling points on those should perhaps be better codecs, I/O ports, and ergonomics.

    Sony have been doing the same thing since beginning. RX series, a6000, a7 series all same body with minor improvements. Usually for two sometimes three generations same sensor with new updates to other internal components like processing and software. And technology that makes first debut in high end a9 than trickles down the whole line up to compact cameras. This is what gives them ability to mass produce over few generations same body and sensor and cut costs, since the more units they produce the less it cost them per unit. And they make more profit. At the same time they have not only presence in APS-C but the whole range of cameras and accessories. On top of that they make money no matter who sells cameras, except canon since they make sensors and now that new 5.7M dots EVF for everyone. The a6000 cameras still sell well so this seems like a great way to save on cost of production and still make good money in shrinking camera market. If you look at the history of their strategy this is not new, its what they have been doing since the beginning. It brought them up to this point so I expect they will just keep doing it.

      The front wheel never existed in Sony APS-C mirrorless. At best, the rear had 2 top dials for exposure, and one rear dial a la Canon. And the old sensor is still top of the line today, as no other sensor has significantly beaten it. You don't even need a joystick anymore with Sony cameras. Real Time AF means you can just AF on your subject, and the camera will effortlessly track it everywhere across the frame. No more having to aim your focus point before focusing. And many people (including myself) aren't fond of flippy screens. They get in the way of shooting high and low, since you can't stabilize the camera with your left hand in any reasonable location when the screen is flipped out.

    • @BlueBomberTurbo
      @BlueBomberTurbo 5 років тому

      Not sure why people are mad at the "different feature mashups". Do you want the intentional gimping that Canikon have made famous? Where important things, like good AF, high fps, or 4K with industry standard frame rates, are left out, reserved only for the highest end cameras? At least with Sony, you get so much of the good stuff, with the smaller things reduced (like EVF res or body materials) as you go down the line, that won't impact shooting significantly. That means all of these new cameras (A6100, A6400, A6600) perform incredibly well, regardless of price. Just some bells and whistles, and one or two expensive features have been removed from the lower end cameras to reduce cost, getting all of the actual tech down to the masses.

      @@TheIkaika777 you propably don't know the issues of this sensor. It is a great sensor for 4K 35/40 fps. BUT it is terrible for 1080p even at 25/30fps. Also 120fps cropped 1080p is very soft. More over the "new" sony a6600 looks like it has the same OLD technology of Sony a6500, the same terrible rolling shutter etc. And I m suspecting that it has also the same type of processor and this is why it cannot support more advanced video features. Maybe $1400 for an a7000 and drop the a6600 to $1000 and then maybe a flagship sony apsc can make sense monetarily. They screwed their high end apsc line up by pricing the a7iii so low. For the past 2 to 3 weeks I have been watching tons of video on the A6400 and was deadset on that being the potential upgrade. Also, if the battery life will be a big deal for you. Finally, will lacking a flash cause problems? I don't know about you, but I rarely ever used the on-camera flash with either my a6500 or NEX-6. I eventually bought some Godox units, instead.

    The A6600 is definitely a A6300 Mark 3. One step was the IBIS and another was the flip screen and the bigger battery. A6100 and A6400 are total failures. No one asked for it. Everyone wanted an A6400 with IBIS - it’s the A6600. But with 1.600€ in Europe, this is quite close to the 1.900€ price tag of the A7M3

    another lazy release by Sony, some would suggest that the A6400 was just a rebadged A6300 with an updated processor and different touchscreen hinge, if it wasn't for the larger grip to accommodate the Z battery I'd say the A6600 was simply a rebadged A6400 with the IBIS from the A6500. Can't get my head around this old sensor tech in a so called flagship.

    In my opinion, Sony is just better off sticking to FF. Everyone seems to understand that their APS-C line, with the launch of these two new cameras, is the practically the same with a few minor upgrades to each one.
    When your flagship APSC camera with a lens is reaching FF territory , in terms of price point , you're left scratching your head as to what Sony is doing in the APSC department.

    The biggest disappointment is the old sensor. I don't have a problem with it in the 6100 but in the 6600; this will remain Sonys top APS-C-Camera until 2021/22.

    Thank you for this video guys.
    What I will remind from it is the antique 24mpx of the A77, the EVF of 1.44 mpx in the 6100 which was in the A58/A68 entry level cameras, a rear screen of less than 1mpx in 2020 it's just not acceptable and crazy AF performances lagged out by uhs I memory slots and 4k 30p not very new thing...
    The real improvement is at last good APS-C glass coming because that was the worst part of Sony APS-C system actually, so good news here.

    Looks like the a6400 is the best option price/features wise, a6100 is a big contender provided you don't mind lack of picture profiles, and a6600 is only for an enthusiast with unlimited budget (Sony full frame cameras are a better option, pricewise, for a professional, even with the more expensive ff lenses).

    • @BlueBomberTurbo
      @BlueBomberTurbo 5 років тому

      Problem is, you'll have to spend around/more than 2x on a FF camera to get similar performance to the A6600. Real Time AF Tracking isn't available in the A7 III, so you'll have to get an A7R III or IV if you want the same high end AF as in the A6600. Or A6400. Or even the A6100!
