What do we want from this channel? I can only speak for myself but I want to watch you sail around and work on your boat. It's that simple. You don't need to do anything fancy, just be yourself and live your life, that's been entertaining and educational enough for me all along.
I second this! I subscribed for watching the adventures sailing and repairs - because that is what sailing is! The places you go , the people you meet. The good times the bad times.
I'm with this guy. I miss her too buddy but for the entertainment value. You have a lot to offer. I ha e been with you from the start and I'll be with you till the end. ❤ Thanks
I never unsubscribed during the period of few videos because I knew you were coming back. Now other channels that publicly announce they're quitting I do unsubscribe from them. But I knew you would be back. We all have setbacks in life. Just keep moving forward...
Wow, nice self reflection there Joel. The best way to get out of any of rut is to take a critical look at the situation and make a change. Good energy.
Some of the best self help advice I ever hear was "you are enough" You're enough man that's it. We watch for you Joel. A lot of us envy the life you've lived. keep living brother, keep sharing. I'm sitting in my old sail boat in Tampa, up on the hard for 2 years now watching this video and wishing I could be more like you man. . I'm inspired by you to keep pursuing this dream of sailing and living free and living on a boat. I'm a bum on a boat to, too ashamed to share. Thanks for the videos.
I originally came to this channel to watch a young adventurer do something my life situation doesn't presently allow. What you and your friends did was impressive. Something I wish I would have done in my youth. The part where you fell apart because of what some young female said to you was where this train went off the rails. Move on. Keep sailing. Keep adventuring. The world is yours. Reach out and take it.
Joel, Relax and try to enjoy yourself. We'll follow along. Life is a journey. That delivery sounds very interesting with everything going on in that area. Stay safe.
Joel I watch your channel because of you, You have a great outlook on your life. Keep being you and this channel will grow more and more just being you. I wish you all the best in life and I see a very bright future for you ahead.
Glad your back Joel. last year when things were not going well for you i let you know that you had inspired me to find my own boat and set out for some of my own adventures. Well I finally found the boat I was looking for she is a 26' Sea Ray Sundancer express cruiser, and well lets just say the name closed the deal. She is called BUM N ROUND lol so I am now Officially a "BUM on a Boat". Launching this spring for a tour around the great lakes, starting in lake Ontario from my home port of Niagara On the Lake. Thanks again for showing so many of us that anyone can step outside their comfort zone and try new adventures, life is to short not too.
We all have things that happen in our lives that knock us rudderless for a bit - I had one last summer. Im glad to see you are finding your footing again and look forward to seeing what lies ahead. Best of luck to you.
We’re living the dream, brother!! Life is short, live it to the fullest!! it seems like life is a roller coaster one minute you’re up the next minute you’re down!! Keep on truckin !
Boab has been in my subscription list for years and is not going anywhere I will watch you til you are stubborn old man on a yellow trihull your outlook is just what us 401k stuck on land guys need live that life be amazing and make amazing trips enjoy the hot tea on a sunrise. Enjoy a beer at sunset life is meant to be free and you are doing it right. Be free and enjoy every cloud , and every butterfly
Joel your so good I like how you speak and tell the story of truth and I think you will go far well done. Now what happened to you has happened to many like sailing Zingaro and sailing in to Freedom. I think you have done well to get through things. I wish my life was like the way you say.
Alright, Capt. J. Part of this channel has always been about your life and growth, sailing or otherwise. Looking forward to good things in the future. Every road has potholes......the alignments are just part of life. Love ya, Dude.
Admittedly, I was worried about you but, having recently gone through a huge event of my own, I understood what we have to work through to get to a place where we are ready to start healing. Didnt unsub... stuck it out with ya and i'm glad to see you incorporating the hurt and who you were into who you are now in a healthy way. Its all we can do at the beginning of a new season. Glass raised & cheers to a future life of stories and memories made :)
Bro...been watching for years now. And have seen you struggle from 3 guys on a boat, to boat romance, boat heartbreak, to you finding you. But....annunciation...every time you say "authentic" it comes across as something else....glad to see your back on the boat.. and look forward to the next videos....which I am catching up on... good luck ,,and fair seas.
Joel don’t look back all you’ll get is a stiff neck. Joel you know how many amazing beautiful women you will meet on your way around the world. I think you need to find a friend to go on the trip with you keep each other grounded and it’s more fun, You ARE the fortunate one Joel. You got it. ⛵️
First and foremost, be safe in your delivery/adventures. Secondly if anything and I mean anything seems off during the trip, go live go live go live. Go live twice if necessary. We love ya and we got you! 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
I used to have "Never take yourself TOO seriously." above my desk. It's something everyone needs a little help remembering now and then. Good for you for taking the time to try something new, realize it wasn't the right path, and get back on track. The important thing is to be true to yourself. If that means quitting making YT videos, or even sailing, that's your journey. We're glad you are back at it, though. We're doing an Atlantic Delivery from Virginia to Portugal starting the first week of May, maybe well see you "out there." We look forward to that story, too! Namaste. 🙏
Whether you like it or not, you're not in a terrible state of being, just a state of being. Good and bad are labels we apply to situations based on our judgements about them but these labels are not fact and by changing our opinion we change whether the situation is perceived good or bad. There is no such thing as good and bad, only seemingly good and seemingly bad.
Sounds interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I really enjoyed seeing Thomas and Linda again; I've known them since the early 1980s, before they were a couple. I hope you get to go thru the Suez Canal. It was the whole reason I went on that early 2023 cruise, and it exceeded my expectations. You are going to have a wonderful and life changing cruise. Enjoy, and thanks for sharing it with us.
i'm 62 and with enough $ to buy a Lagoon 45 - i would switch with you RIGHT NOW ... keep that in mind.. you have the gift of youth and health... move forward... NOW
Wow, trip to Dubai sounds incredible! I've been watching since you and the original Bums stripped out the interior of Chak Matay, I tuned out a bit while you were in D.R...I'm glad you're sounding like the real Joel again. Dubai...and a Captains license...LET'S GOOOO!
I watch because I’m interested in getting my own boat for my retirement. Thankfully after seeing how much work it is, I’ve learned it’s probably too much trouble for an old man. So thanks for helping me see what the future might have been.
I chose the career life which lead me away from the ocean but I sometimes wish I’d taken your path. Many of us watch to live vicariously through your much more adventurous lifestyle. Also, being a captain at some point is an awesome goal to work towards, go Joel go!
Love ya man, do what you feel necessary, don't be so nervous. You'll do well trying to focus on one thing a time. Plenty of places to go, maybe Argentina or throughout the coast of the USA. Stay clear of the middle east. Sail to Indonesia, Malaysia, contact Follow The Boat or Sailing Nanji
We [I] watched from the beginning to experience something most of us will never do. From the original adventure, to the romance, the hardship of being on the hard and all the boat work. That all took something most of us would not endure, and yet there you both were living the best life despite the challenges...and now there is one. You are in a Fishbowl so to speak and no explanation is required...just do it...we're watching. Capt. Keith's[Zatara] oldest boy Jack is going to school as we speak to get his Captains license. Zatara had recent episodes going through there, it should be interesting to see the difference between the two
Joel, just keep doing what made you successful in the past!! People love to see you succeed and probably even more love to see you fail. Most people don’t go to a car race to see the successful winners but go to see the car recks.
We all have ups & downs in life. Seeking a good life can be confusing and frustrating. If one thing does not work out make a note of that & try something else. If you love the out door life style don't chain yourself to a desk. It's not written that we must become a millionaire to be happy. Find what makes you happy and find a way to support yourself doing something that you enjoy. Don't let others push you into their mold. Focus on your dream. 🤗 Be honest, kind and work hard for that dream and you'll find joy. 💖 ⛵ S/V Cork~Texas 🇺🇸
I had a few problems of my own to work out, took a break from all the sailing channels and my own boat. I never had unsubcribed from your channel!!!😊⛵️
Jigsaw puzzle falling into place, Joel. Let it manifest. Continue forward. The past is water under the bridge, and you're the captain of your vessel. Full steam ahead, captain! Looking forward to your future adventures.
But enough about me. Lets go sailing and share the adventure. Your biggest contribution is your willingness to jump in even if something is new for you. That may be easy to find.
Joel, I love you and have been along for the whole 7 plus year ride. However, I have to say that you're losing it a bit. You're not out on the edge. You're hanging over it and losing your grip. Pull it together, just be Joel and move on. Here with for the next 7 years.
Hello Joel. 'Welcome back', not that you actually left, you just lest us high and dry for a while. Actually, the algorithm just stopped presenting your and I forgot to search. I still feel keeping the old crone recording from the early days is a good branding mechanism, it grabs my attention, cleverly reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Working on yourself is much like working on your boat, always something to improve. Men tend to hide our emotions when we should reach out for help.I am proud of you Joel. Please keep making content I love watching you work threw problems. Kaizan is a Japanese word meaning constant improvement. Look forward to calling you Captain one day. Cheers my brother.
I will watch whatever content you put out here! I do hope you release the 7 you have already ready slowly as I would like to see what you did on the catamaran. Keep doing YOU.
Awesome! I have not been able to edit them yet and have decided to save them for later. I’ll be working hard to edit the videos in Chak Matay to get them out each week. Happy to have all of that great content for future videos.
First thing is knowing where you want to go. Who goes get in a car and say to themselves "Where am I going? No! You have an Idea of somewher you'd like to go, Right?
Hey Joel. I can relate to getting lost in your channel. Me too… I like you and your authenticity and open-ness. Keep it going, yep we all need to take ourselves less seriously… ecspecially me… don’t give up the channel. I for one get some laughs and some ideas from the crazy shit you say :) Smile :)
Joel you have the whole world ahead of you mate why keep revisiting the past and bringing yourself down ? life is too short to dwell on the past get some people to join you on new adventures have fun be happy go sailing
The full quote is: "Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out of it alive."-Elbert Hubbard US author 1856-1915 Been living by that and a little Hunter S. Thompson style for decades. You can never lose yourself if you stay true to yourself.
Hey Joel. Long time, no see. Just checking your pulse today. IMO (worth what you paid for it); less monologue, more boat DIY and cruising. Let's go! It's a sailing boat channel for Pete's Sake. See you soon.
I think one of the funniest things I saw you do was walk down the street in the pandmc with that gas mask on your face hahahahhaha :-) AND when you were did the ".....someone's gonna win a prize" hahaha Keep going mate and remember all the good times and good vibes you've shared...
Bahaha! That’s so funny. Good times. I hadn’t realized yet that it only filters the air coming in, not going out 🤣 oh man scraping every inch of that boat with a bloody wood chisel 😅 that’s what I’m talking about. Thanks mate.
I've been watching from early days. At first it was like watching a train wreck 😂. The more I watched the better your got. It's been great watching you progress in your knowledge of sailing and navigation as well as boat maintenance and improvements. If nothing else you have given fuel to many peoples dreams. Keep being you!
Lol yes! A train wreck that was hard to look away from. It’s amazing when I see the other two and how that time in their lives was a spring board to their current lives which are rich with love and success.
@Bumsonaboat it was hard to watch initially. Lol. I grew up around boat building and have built boats myself. You have come a long way. Knowledge that will serve you for the rest of your life. Once the ocean is in your veins it never leaves. Maybe you can sail her up the west coast one day. The pacific northwest and the inside passage is magical. Although a little cooler than what you are currently doing. 😆
great video. I am subscribed for a long time . I have only watched a few in a long time, because I got out of sailboat theory. I think it is way cheaper and more comfortable to just live on a small budget on land in an apartment in an affordable country. Anyways I think there are many music videos saying a similar thing.. (maybe about dealing with stuff in your mind. ) yes I can relate, or I would not be posting now.
I figured you were making some bank so that you could continue your journey. That's perfectly OK. You won't be the first and you won't be the last to do something like that. It's a great education in sailing in store for you.
'Time heals all wounds' can be true, but 'time wounds all heals' can also be true. It all depends on how the individual plays the cards that have been dealt.
Joel, Alex from Luperon here. Your trip on the Privilege is going to give you experience that you could gain no other way in terms of what it takes to prepare for and cross an ocean, both physically and psychologically. It's gonna be great. Not a lot to see out in the middle of the ocean though...no wildlife and even the stars are not that great. Lots of clouds though lol. See if you can get to the Swizzle Inn in Bermuda...my card is on the ceiling near the bar with thousands of others from a Bermuda race lol. Hope you have a great trip, and hope you get back to Luperon some day...the poker tables misses you.
Alex! So great to hear from you here in the YT comments:) miss you and the Luperon family greatly and also miss taking your money 😉 Na, it was never about the money but the relationships. That is what makes Luperon so amazing, the community and relationships. I am looking forward to gaining this experience and I’ll be looking for your card. You can’t keep me out of Luperon forever!!
Dude it's a sailing vlog. Do videos of fixing your boat and sailing your boat. Maybe introduce us to the people you meet and the cool places you visit. Keep it simple.
I watched your videos of your working and sailing. Seems you spent too much time working and not sailing but your boat your story your channel. Then you got a helper, cute, y'all seemed to work together, you seemed happy, UNTIL you needed help at a critical time, barked a command & damn the boat, damn the problem, feelings got in the way, with a boat adrift. She was lucky to find you. You're better off without her. Emergencies need a response now. Talk feelings later. Hope you're soon sailing again, running your channel.
I think you tried to say "We are All Teachers and All Students" I felt SO bad for you when your Love dumped you, Damn Hurtful. Been there done that , takes a long while to get over. I see you doing very well Joel, Keep the chin up and enjoy yourself young Man.
What do we want from this channel? I can only speak for myself but I want to watch you sail around and work on your boat. It's that simple. You don't need to do anything fancy, just be yourself and live your life, that's been entertaining and educational enough for me all along.
Appreciate the feedback! Keep it simple.

First thing is knowing where you want to go. Who goes get in a car and say to themselves "Where am I going? No! You have an Idea of somewher you'd like to go, Right?
recommend you don't bring the past up any longer ... go forward
Feeling that as well but I guess I just needed to address the elephant in the room.
It’s tough out there. Partners keep coming & going, wondering who will be your next partner on the sea.
Hey Joel. I can relate to getting lost in your channel. Me too… I like you and your authenticity and open-ness. Hey Joel. Long time, no see. Just checking your pulse today. IMO (worth what you paid for it); less monologue, more boat DIY and cruising. Let's go! It's a sailing boat channel for Pete's Sake. See you soon.
Wow, I had no idea that was how you got to Dubai ! Be very careful of course, some of that is dangerous territory.
I like the maintenance parts and sailing to raves stuff you do . Id like to watch you go to "festivals"
Joel. I’m in the DR in Sosúa. I’m close to Lupiron and think of you and Chak Mattai.
I figured you were making some bank so that you could continue your journey. That's perfectly OK. You won't be the first and you won't be the last to do something like that. It's a great education in sailing in store for you.
Hear is some good it advise my grandfather used to say time heals all wounds. Being heart broke socks but something good will happen
'Time heals all wounds' can be true, but 'time wounds all heals' can also be true. It all depends on how the individual plays the cards that have been dealt.
I was hoping you would say yes to the Dubai trip. Adventure on!
The best is yet to come. 🖖.
Authentically!
Failure is not an option, you are the master of your own ship. The best part about Rock bottom is the journey to the top
Less talk and more projects and sailing.!!
I expect to see a video every week.Good or bad or ugly.
@8:50 that cut made me laugh out loud
Bahahaha good! It made me laugh out loud when editing it 😁
Losing someone doesnt define you, brother.
