  • Been meaning to do a video like this for awhile, I think it worked out well for all the filters other than Fram canister filter. Yes watch to end to see what I found.

    Very nice! My wife drives a 2017 Dodge Durango 3.6 uses cartridge style. I have been using the fram ultra and wix xp. They all seem to be built really well

      Yes cartridge filters seem to be built better, maybe it's because you can inspect what your buying.

      @@crazybillsgarage agreed I like to see what I'm dealing with. Plus the crap I've been wiping out of the threads on my spin on filters has been scary lately. Light oil on paper towel wipe out threads I've seen a lot of metal where they don't get cleaned out well. Just something to look out for

      Yes the Fram Ultra and WIX XP have a much better build quality than most.

    There is a hole in the Filter , Dear Liza , Dear Liza . 🎵😂

    I believe the reason the center of some of the filters interiors turn is so it’ll turn with the oil filter cartridge housing cap when installing or removing the filter from the oil filter/cooler housing.

      yes , I know on the older Cev Cavaliers they tend to twist when you tighten the cap on 🤔

    I do like the cartridge filters . Easy to change and you can see the state of the filter when removing . 🤔

    Although canister filters are easier and quicker to change, I like the cartridge ones because you can inspect how the filters are working, as others have said. They also seem to have better flow than the canisters

    • @crazybillsgarage
      @crazybillsgarage  2 дні тому +1

      Better flow and can be inspected before install and after. Good concept, but I still like my canister filters.😉

    Never seen a metal strip on any cartridge filter 🤔

    • @crazybillsgarage
      @crazybillsgarage  2 дні тому +1

      Yeah that is strange since they are a good selling point for canister filters.😅

    I’ve used the Fram CH11665 before in my Ram. It’s a good filter. But I change my oil every 3,000 miles. Currently running a Mopar filter but I’ll eventually go back to Fram because it’s 1/2 the price and since I change my oil every 3,000 miles the Fram is fine.

      That's good, you used a good one. I'm not saying it's bad, just everyone of those cartridge filters should be looked at before bought.

    My wife has the 2014 jeep which we will be changing the oil filter housing to the type with anti drain back valve. Should work better than having dry starts. Thanks Bill.😊

    Cartridge filters are mostly used on the junk brands of vehicles (Stellantis brands & other overpriced problematic brands).
    Toyota tried them for a while but mostly returned to spin on filters.
    Most Honda vehicles use the same spin on filters.
    Not really a coincidence the best & most reliable brands don't use cartridge filters.

      Your right on that, where I work we take in used oil filters, and the ratio must be 50 to 1 in favor of canister filters.

  • @daewooparts
    @daewooparts 2 дні тому

    The reason why cartridge filters are cleanly assembled is that you will see what it is ....the sloppiness can easily be concealed in a canister filter & unknown & unseen

    • @crazybillsgarage
      @crazybillsgarage  2 дні тому

      I believe your right, if you can inspect the filter first than it better look good.

    I got a FRAM oil filter cartridge from a cut open canister hanging up on a toilet paper holder hanging next to the toilet 🚻 🚽🧻 as a friendly reminder not to use FRAM, use another cut open canister for a desk trashcan 🗑 & another as a ashtray 🚬
