I'm not an artist but a fan and what you are saying is absolutely true!!!! I'm an avid cd collector. There is something special about having the physical media. I love my collection!

This is something I've been saying to a lot of people. Even though most of my fans don't have CD players, most don't even own a turntable, but physical media is the best way to connect with them. Just This year alone, I have sold out one box of my CDs of my last album and I have fans requesting more on my Bandcamp site. Tony van Veen is 💯 correct when it comes to this. Thanks, Tony, and to the entire production team of Disc Makers. Kudos to all of you.

Im still calling CDs. I sold 50 CDs in 4hr, to random stranger . 40 will buy a CDs. I also sold to people who didn’t have CD player. Fans are more happy meeting the artist, and interesting in real life… us as Artists are walking billboard… Tony is right I been trying to tell people from time !

Listener here. I always go for physical media when available. Plan B is buying the album on iTunes or similar. And yes, I have cd players... four of them 😊

We just got back from part 1 of our two part UK tour. We sold a TON of CDs (thanks to having a specific merch guy who can sell ice to penguins). People like to get autographs, and speak with us at the merch table, etc. Plus, we bundle them with tee shirts. And I can confirm that people want to support bands, and some will then sign up for the newsletter.
One thing I tried was making up pages that were for each release to be downloaded. This is in addition to a regular "shop" where all the CDs are listed and can be physically purchased or download. I didn't want people to go to the main shop and have to look at all the releases, pick a "download" or "purchase" button, etc. This way, they decide on the album and go right to page that ONLY has that album. QR codes don't allow HTML anchors, so it's got to be a whole page, not a section on a page.
So I made up a QR code for each album page, printed up a nice color sheet, and told the merch guy that people can scan the code, be taken RIGHT TO THAT ALBUM'S PAGE, and from there can buy it and get an instant download.
Result - it didn't really sell much, but I'm going to keep it up for the next part of the tour and see how it goes. Part of it may be that it only accepts Paypal, which may not be the best choice, but I'll research that over the next couple of weeks.
And I would suggest $15 per CD, not $10. It's 2023. CDs sold for $10 in 2005. And 2010. But by 2015, they started going up. Offer a special: buy the CD, get the downloadable version free! Or make up bundles - 2 CDs, get $5 off. Or a CD/tee shirt bundle. But if you start at $10 per CD, you don't have much room to discount.
One last point Tony didn't make:
Some magazines, radio stations, and blogs want CDs. They require them. While some specifically do NOT want physical product, some do. And you want a professional looking CD to send out. So why not print out a limited run? Yes, it will be a bit expensive per CD, but you'll make it back.

Younger fans have a PlayStation or Xbox. Play CDs on that.
If in the house someone owns a dvd or Blu-ray player, then that plays CDs too.
Lotsa ways to play CDs besides a cd player.

Add a code with the CD that allows for a download of the wavs and/or mp3s. I buy vinyl that does this.

you forget that many people THINK they don't have a CD player, but they DO. Many of them HAVE an Xbox or Playstations and it never dawned on them that they also play CDs and DVDs until we ask them if they are also gamers. Then they say "oh yeah"...Then they buy.

When I was teenager I downloaded all my music illegally as MP3s. Simply because my income was low. Now I bought all CDs of the albums I still like. It is nice to have the original, uncompressed digital audio with the original artwork. It is nice to be able to play them offline, independent of which steaming service has contracts with which artists. And ofc it is nice to support the artists now I have the income to do so.
I deleted all the downloaded low-quality MP3's and ripped my CD's to new MP3 files with the highest bit rate for easy listening. But sometimes it is nice to just pop in the original CD and listen to it that way.
My computer has a CD player, a quality sound card and quality speakers.

Far as i am concern, fans of my music & those whom buy my CD's, may never open & remove the shrink wrap 2 listen 2 the actual disk, but they will b more than enticed, 2 open 4 the sake of closer look at the graphics & also 2 read the interesting & informative credits & bio's.

funny he says all this but in the video about their cassette usb drive, he says "people want to buy cassettes???" even though the same situations apply.
i think it mostly has to do with their disinterest in pressing cassettes.

this gives me hope but i want to clarify, we are not saying “i don’t want to spend my precious money”. we are saying this is diabolical and we need help fighting the corporate monopolies running the streaming services and discontinuing physical media players - PERIOD

Is this your shore home or apartment? Interesting to have a black/white/grey aesthetic rather than the bright colors aesthetic of your primary home.
