    Very very helpful and thank you. This is my year to be everywhere, with a much greater online presence. This video offers up some good directives.

    Interesting. This is good info. I have a new song literally finished yesterday. And we are gonna shoot the video within the next week. I have been resistant to Spotify and SoundCloud, because of how little they truly pay. I have tried to keep my music exclusive to either purchase via physical media or download purchase. With UA-cam for music videos. I don’t know if this is the right strategy or not. This new song is a single. That won’t be on my new album this year. So I kind of feel like it is a good test subject to test this method on these services. Since it is kind of a one off single. I think i will give this a try!

      True, streaming pays peanuts. But it does make your music widely accessible. I’m not sure how much CD revenue will actually decline by putting your music on Spotify and other platforms. It’s great for a single, so give it a shot!

    hi! thanks for this. I understand it has to be unreleased tracks that you submit. Is it ok to share a taster eg 15 second taster of your new track on your socials /or in an advert prior to release though? that track would still be considered "unreleased" wouldn't it?

    So I'm sorry I'm just confused, you're saying you have to wait for your song to be delivered to spotify for artists and then you go to upcoming releases and pitch from there? Are you meaning to say in the time gap in between when you send it out through the distributor to when it actually appears on spotify the application itself? Or did I miss something? Sorry just can't find this specific piece to the puzzle anywhere

    • @tonyvv
      @tonyvv Рік тому

      Correct. When you upload your music to your digital distributor you have to set a release date some weeks into the future so that it doesn't go live as soon as it's delivered to Spotify et al. Between the time it gets delivered to Spotify and your release date you should do your pitch submission (at least one week before your go-live). And remember that most new songs drop on a Friday, so that's probably when you want to schedule your release.

    • @tonyvv
      @tonyvv 2 роки тому

      @@edgaba I don't really know. I think it's pre-release, because playlist curators want new content. However, depending on the playlist, previously released content may be fine. Try it! It costs nothing...

    @joewilleyandthemovinmen5977 2 роки тому +1

    I've done this before and my pitch was rejected. You only get one shot at this per release, and if you're rejected there's nothing you can do. We have a fairly large Spotify/CD baby catalog, 3 albums and a few singles, and our songs are well written, well played and well produced. I've hardly made anything from Spotify or CD Baby and I'm thinking about doing a different type of release next time.

    • @tonyvv
      @tonyvv 2 роки тому +1

      Yes, there is no guarantee of getting on a curated playlist. Your music has to be a good fit and add something to the playlist that the curator thinks the listeners HAVE to hear. And your descriptions need to be sharp. However, you WILL show up in your fans’ Release Radar playlist.

    Just a quick question about 'official' release dates and pitching - will Spotify see a release 'parked' by a distributer prior to its official release? Therefore giving Spotify editor and the algorithm a chance to check out the pitch before its release. Or, can an editor only see the release on its 'official' release date? I.e if I upload an EP to my Distributor today and do all the things necessary to secure its release in three weeks time, will Spotify be able to check it out now? Hope that makes sense

    • @DiscMakers
      @DiscMakers  2 роки тому +1

      Hey @chrisbennie that is the main idea! Spotify won't allow pitching after a release for a likely reason of never-ending pitches, but getting it into their system and pitched at least 2 weeks ahead of time gives the algorithm and curators time to actually check out your music. Think of it as getting it 'higher on the list' of consideration by doing it sooner than later. Hope that makes sense! :)

    Here’s my take on the Spotify playlist editorial pitching versus what I’ve seen our music do on Pandora‘s editorial programming. Pandora plays nearly the identical kind of genre after our tracks which is hard rock i.e. Godsmack Sevendust tool Lincoln Park on Spotify playlists the wrong genre follows after our songs ..
    The genome system on Pandora which you cannot submit editorial to editorial programming, has had way more success for us than Spotify has I still don’t understand why Spotify is the new radio gatekeeper towards music my personal opinion Pandoras been way more favorable yes it pays less but we have seen huge numbers in a matter of days with our releases and we can’t even pitch to them yet Spotify just pisses on it so if you ask me it’s kind of Jenkee

    • @tonyvv
      @tonyvv 2 роки тому

      They're just different animals. Pandora functions more like radio: you listen to what they select (sure, you can skip some tracks). Spotify plays what you tell it to play, you get unlimited repeats, skips, etc. -- it is truly on-demand. And the global Spotify user base is more than double Pandora's, which makes it (and its charts and playlists and recommendation algorithm) a legit tastemaker, like it or not.

    • @JFredric
      @JFredric 2 роки тому

      @@tonyvv Yes, I totally agree in the sense that Spotify is user base is more than double. I have always wondered why Pandora is only available in America and has an expanded internationally? I don’t know if that’s because it’s partnership with Sirius XM or that’s just what they can afford to span across I don’t know but I know one thing there’s Pandora and plus Pandora premium and Pandora regular I think they’re premium service which is 999 a month just like Spotify is 990 months gives you unlimited plays and unlimited streams now the music technically sounds exact same across all these streaming platforms unless it’s title which has hi-fi or the master version is it really worth a 999 a month I really don’t know but Pandora has been favorable to us yet Spotify not at all

      Keep trying. Ever hear the stories. One hundred no’s. To finally get that one yes. I have submitted my music via physical copy and press kit (yes I know old school, but it sets me apart from everyone today!) to multiple traditional radio and tv stations. Hoping to land either an interview or some play time. So far, none. But it did lead into me being featured on a worldwide online radio show based out of Seattle. Not only was my song played. But I was the featured person they talked to for over an hour! Basically I was given the entire show for that day. Also, with another press kit, going to a local public radio station that was traditional, I didn’t get on there. But I ended up on the DJs ITunes podcast for 3 HOURS! Co hosting an episode with him. And his podcast is quite popular. So you never know what they may parlay into. Don’t give up!
