I want to thank you for creating this wonderful channel. I've been watching your videos since my late high school/early college days and i'm now in my mid 20's finally working in the industry i love. These videos have taught me so much even though i was never able to attend your school due to financial reasons. I hope to see more of these in the future! : )
Please continue the Perspective series. It's so helpful. Thank you. Would love to see the line drawing from the beginning use the photo's perspective. Also can you show the center line and a draw-through method for an animal, insect or vehicle? Thank you.
i've been doing a ton of comps from scratch mostly to get my level of understanding of composition to a comfortable point. it's been paying off, i used to feel like i was just guessing or relying on luck/accidents to come up with interesting moods now i have better control, love doing those.
It's amazing that how much these tricks are so simple, but at the same time they help a lot and fix some very serious problems. Thank you Feng zhu I'm really happy that I found your channel I also invited all my friends to watch your videos😊
I love your ideas to use references, which don't have anything to do with the subject, to come up with some crazy cool images. I am learning so much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)
Love the format! Great to see you back, it's always a blast when I see there's a new video from FZD! You mentioned doing a vid using global illumination 3D models, that would be awesome to see! Thanks!
It's insane how just a day before you uploaded this video I was wondering when will you upload a new one xD Thank you so much for this! Now I just want to do a lot of comps.
Here is an idea for the next episodes: A list of methods to always come up with something nice for concept art. Let´s say you have a rough time, moral is low but the job ofcourse still needs to be done. What are some methods a concept artist can always rely on?
You act like everybody always is able to stoy focused on his job no matter what happens. "Just be a machine", is propably what you truly wanted to say eh? "Your son got into the hospital? Nah just be a machine and don´t waste anybodys time. Your mother died? Just be a goddam professional and keep working." Life happens, no matter what you are doing and not always does work come first.
Ever closer to episode 100.... you must do something special for that Feng! Maybe a live stream from the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel... with multiple Singapore Slings!! :)
Its great to see you back feng! your always so bang on about the emotional roller coaster that is concept art! Love listening to you talk and paint. When it comes to delivering time estimates to clients, do you factor in the time for the 3D model and the initial sketch? I understand you said you did 8 of these 3-4 hours but including the sketch and model itself how long does this all take?
Now that's asking the right questions! I was out of the loop because of projects, when I came back to check and upload some of my stuff, the site vanished into thin air :(
Feng said that beginners should just draw. I saw many episodes of his and learned a lot. My question is how long should I learn and practice before starting to think about getting a job ? He said that once fundamentals are learned, then should projects be integrated into learning. And how long do you think it would take to learn fundamentals ( in months or years) ? I am still at the low level of skill, but I do feel improvement, and I just want to know when will I be able to consider my self as employable as concept artist.
Hey, it will take you years probably.. around 5 years minimum in order for you to be considered a good concept artist. There is a T O N of stuff you need to learn and all of it takes years.
@@Moagincety I was thinking more like a year to learn how to draw and design if I do it with proper learning and time spent considering my current level.
@@Moagincety Well 5 years sounds really discouraging. I know that there is a lot to learn. I just want to know if drawing for 10 hours a day will get me anywhere after a year of doing so. Investing that much time and energy over the course of 5 years is a huge step, even if it guaranties job. Are you in the business and how are you so certain about your answers ?
@@denis_ds Hey, I am not in the business but I am striving to become a concept artist someday. The thing is I have read probably every article, every forum topic and watched every youtube video about the industry, what it takes, how much time you need to spend and how much time it would take you, so based on my readings and research i can tell you it will take a few years. Why is it discouraging? It is not. You just want fast results, you want things to happen as fast as possible and it is not always the case. Drawing 10 hours a day could get you really far, but think twice before attempting to draw so much. I can almost guarantee you you will burn out very fast. That`s not what you want. Plus its NOT needed to draw 10 or even 6 hours a day, EVERY day, in order to get good results. It is not about quantity, rather it is about quality. You insist that you would only spend like a year or so, and no more, to get good results. If that is your goal you will need to draw 10 hours a day, cause you limit yourself to such short time. And one thing- NOTHING guarantees you a job. You can spend 5 years mastering your craft but that is only the beginning. You need luck, relations, networking and etc. Anyway if you are stubborn enough and keep pushing through, eventually things will work out. But nothing ever is guaranteed, just know that. Take your time and think wisely.
It is really interesting to see these. And I definitely want to try this out for myself. One question: Can I use the 3d models to create comps during a livestream on my channel?
Are there any good ways to do a comp without using 3d? Does a comp require heavily detailed 3d? Or can I just use 3d to form out the very basic foundation of a composition?
How are you keeping your reference images in place in Photoshop? Whenever I have some refs open they disappear (behind) the moment I start working on the main document.
This might sound odd but..... Im subscribe to you guys on here but when I look on my subscription list of all who I watch.... your not there? As well never get any notification of you ever posting sonce for ever. So religious every week I check? I dont knoe how you set yourself up or you might need to ask youtube like whats up? You're 3d artist built that quickly? Wow. Do you know if he had a whole bunch of asset packs for this or was it all modeled from the concept?
