    I got a Z6ii back in 2020. Then I was fortunate enough to have the funds available to afford to get a Z7ii last Nov. Astrophotography with both is definitely fun, but having the higher resolution of the Z7ii has brought so much more satisfaction to me. It's really a joy seeing the higher level of detail with Z7ii even when comparing stacked images for both cameras.

      I agree. It was insane to me the first time I pulled up one of the Z7II photos in Lightroom!

    Very informative. I moved from a D810 to the Z7 for landscapes. I am enjoying astrophotography with the Z7, but I am thinking getting a Z6ii, as well.

    One thing I don't like to use my Z7 series camera for astro is the lack of Starlight View feature like the Z8 and Z9, so it makes composition pretty hard out there, the Z8 and Z9 fixed that with the Starlight View, and even my 7 or 8 year old Sony A7 III has that ( they called it Bright Monitoring) but basically same thing, press of the button you can see the foreground very good in dark, it won't help your focus but great help for composition, no more trial and error, you can get the perfect composition from the first shot.

      Totally agree! I just filmed some b-roll for a Z8 video and I love the increase in brightness from it. I haven’t done a true shoot with the Z8, but I know it’ll be nice having since I’m mostly use to the Z6.

    Thanks for the information. How to make landscape and stars sharp at the same time? 18:08 . I would like you to make a tutorial for it?

      Absolutely! I plan to do one soon on my editing process and that should clear up how I stack the in focus foreground with the sky

    Just a little fyi, sensor is not stacked, just a BSI, the Z9 is currently the only stacked nikon sensor.

      @willchaneyphoto  Рік тому

      Very true, I didn’t realize until seeing your comment I called out the sensor wrong. I had written an outline for a Z9 review and used it as a basis for this review. Thanks for pointing it out!!

    Thanks for this. I'm curious how many images you stack for the mw @ 10 seconds? I have a Z7ii and just photographed a milkyway but I don't think I had enough images. I had only 8.

    • @willchaneyphoto
      @willchaneyphoto  Рік тому

      I usually go for a minimum of 2-3 minutes of total exposure time. So for a 10 second exposure, try taking 15. Honestly I’d probably do 20 just to get the extra time. What software do you use for stacking? A lot of the brightness and detail comes out in the processing after the stack. Check out Royce Bairs ebook on Milky Way photography. It’s an awesome resource.

    Can you post a video editing your imagines & stacking them?

      I really do need to do a video of that! There’s a lot that goes into the edits and also the way I do my lighting when I take them.

    Greatly helpful video, if only I could cut through the irritating background noise - none of which can be removed by changing the iso 😂

    When shooting nightscapes with my z7ii i find that I cant see anything in live view as the screen is black. I can see exposure values okay but screen is not showing what im shooting. Please help

    • @willchaneyphoto
      @willchaneyphoto  Рік тому +2

      You’re not doing anything wrong! Think about how to shoot a nightscape you’re taking a 10-20 second exposure to capture the Milky Way. When you’re in live view, it’s just simply not possible to see an instantaneous image of the scene. You can check this by pointing the camera at a star or or other bright object and you should be able to see it.
      Now to work around that issue when trying to set your composition, bump your ISO all the way up to its max setting. And take a 1-2 second exposure. Once you get the scene set up, then go to the settings you want to use. That’ll save you a lot of time. I usually just go to bulb mode and hold the shutter button briefly.

    I really like your content, as far as these two cameras compared I think if you are into single shot Astro images as well as stacked or tracked then the z62 is better but if you do stacked or tracked z72 is better, now as far as noise goes that bar scene I witnessed in Star Wars in the showing at the grunmans Chinese theatre in LA in 1976 freaked me out kind of like that music in the background of your videos, it is so distracting and off putting all I can ask is, why?

    • @willchaneyphoto
      @willchaneyphoto  2 роки тому

      Haha I like the noise comparison. Thanks for the feedback. I’ve gotten a few pieces of similar feedback. I started with lowering the music. Thoughts on music or no music? Or is it just that the track is that bad?

    How about futures that makes this camera great nightscape tool? Focusing at nigh. At stars. And so on. Why this is better then z6ii ? Not mention at all.. you talked about what other reviewers said holding camera for few days ... Sorry man this video has just catchy title and crappy content 😢
