This is my family’s restaurant, my dad is the guy that walked behind you with the hat on lol! Thank you for supporting the restaurant and glad you love the food :)
Wow! VH is Legendary! A REAL DEAL generational eating joint here in Oakland. My parents introduced my siblings and I to VH since we was knee high, now I'm 32 yrs old still loving VH! And most likely, I'll be introducing VH to my future kids! Lol
@@censordat Wow, thank you! So glad it’s been a part of your life and hopefully a part of your future kids lives too. I’ll pass the word along to my dad, he’ll be so happy to hear this!
Your dad was always real nice to me. I miss living across the street being able to get a bowl on a whim. I literally just searched it on youtube to torture myself. Do you have any recommendations for resturants in LA that serve something similar to the 21/22 or 27? I crave those and a side of fishcakes.
I no longer believe in yucking anybody's yum: eat noodles -- and anything else -- the way you like. Can't wait to try as many of their noodles as possible.
BD! I went to VH today because this video made me crave it and I saw you there! LOL. I didn’t want to interrupt your meal tho. Thks for these videos and reppin’ Oakland!
@@LifeOfBD I feel him tho, I used get pho and just drenched it in Sriracha and hoisen... Then I made it one time and I never added sauce to it again... Unless it's bland or nasty lol
I used to work in Oakland Chinatown and Vien Huong was one of my go-to eats. My favorite dishes were sparerib ho fun, beef saday noodle, beef stew noodle and Chow Jew chow mein, with a side of fried fish cake. The duck noodle soup is good too.
All of those were excellent. I liked all of those, but never tried the spare rib ho fun, beef stew noodle, or beef satay. Bet they are good though. My go-to was the Chow Jew Mee Fun. Unfortunately, the fish cakes don’t seem to be as good as they used to be. One of my family members always got the duck noodle soup. When I was younger, I would often get the fried chicken over over fried rice that came with a small bowl of clear broth/soup. There used to be a second VH in El Cerritos at the Pacific Park Plaza but it wasn’t quite the same and didn’t last long.
Haha I understand what the guy was saying about they spent so much time cooking the soup only to be ruined by people dumping a ton of sauce. I think it's ok, people have the way they like to eat. Personally, I like to keep my soup clean as well to enjoy the taste of the soup. But my friends like to put sauces all over their noodle soup.
Yeah the hoisin sauce is waaaaaasy too sweet for soup. I prefer heat over sweet but hey I totally respect your choice for your soup. Thanks for coming back to Oakland. I’ll be there soon
Haha its good to know not everyone eats it the way Me others normally eat it. Love the way Calvin explained and why he does not sauce up his noodle soup.
@@LifeOfBD your video has triggered my noodle craving. I hope they have Harley parking out front because I don’t want to fight traffic for a bowl of tasty goodness 🤣😂
Too bad it’s like $16 a bowl nowadays! :(. Also seems like you get a less stuff than before. When I was last there, the windows were boarded up and had graffiti over the boards. It’s sad. Hope things have or will improve. If anyone ever heads up to Sac, give Lollibowl a try. Big portions, always comes out piping hot, and very consistent. Prices are good considering what you get. If you head down to Torrance/Gardena, there’s Northern Cafe that hand makes and cuts their noodles. They make some great beef noodle soup, xiao long bao, scallion pancakes and other stuff.
I used to like this place called Daimo in El Cerritos near the Pacific Park Plaza. But somehow it wound up going down hill over the years and last time I visited it just was a shell of its old self. I hear there are other locations around the Bay.
VH! Lol. Massacring it? Nope!! BD's way of putting all the sauces and condiments in the bowl is how many people eat this. I do the same, only difference is I have the soup with it instead of on the side. And I drink most/all of the soup too. hahha
Vien Huong or Thanh Ky?
Thanh ky any day!!
V.H. ALL DAY EVERYDAY, T.K. not the same as it use to be. raise the price and skim on the food not cool
