In addition to the door lock replacement, I also cover how to remove and replace the door panel, window regulator, window motor, outside door handle, and more. This video is packed with valuable information that can help you save money and avoid costly repair bills.
By watching this video, you'll learn valuable tips and tricks that can help you with other car repair projects as well. Whether you're a seasoned mechanic or a DIY enthusiast, this video is a must-watch.

Phone died right as I was getting ready to put the door panel back on. Sorry about that. But you should be able to get the panel on since I showed you how it was removed.

Every winter we struggled with this problem and your video gave us vital intel that we desperately needed. Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Just swapped my power window switch out in under 5 minutes with this video and now have working windows and locks for the first time in 3 years! Thanks dude keep up the videos!
Just finished fixing a right front side actuator on a 2008 G35x w/218,000 miles. Would not have attempted it w/o your video. Thank you for taking the time creating this, you save us $$$ and I am now much more educated having done the hands-on part.
Thank you for the feedback. I am glad that this video helped you get this done. 😁
This video was extremely helpful. I had to replace the front passenger door lock actuator and the rear drivers. This video made it much more easy.
Thanks for uploading this! Now I know how involved it will actually be LOL I thought it would be easier! This is going to have to be a weekend project with my dad. We've been fixing up my 2008 Altima little by little. It's fun taking the car apart and learning about cars with him :)
This video was perfect. Thanks for paying it forward by making this available. Exactly same for my 2009 G37X, when reinstalling the pull handle baseplate inside the door, i did not seat the side nearest the latch and it kept me from getting the screw to seat in the key cylinder. after taking a step back and inspecting, i realized the base plate wasnt seated. Thanks and im sure this will continue to help DIYr's. Part was 130 refurbished from Ebay. OEM was quoted nearly $400.
Just another person saying "Thank you!" for uploading this video. Much appreciated! Cheers!
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! You saved me a ton of time trying to trouble shoot an issue with the door handle on a 2006 Infiniti. I am grateful.
This video was honestly a life saver. I was going to be charged a ton by the dealer, but after watching I felt confident I could do it. A few minor things different in my Nissan Altima coupe 2012, but all in all worked out great. Thank you so much!
Thanks for taking the time to do this. Fixed my mom's issue in a half hour vs 300 at infiniti . Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought, I also didn't need to remove the harness on the panel, I had more than enough room to move to the side. This was on a 2010 ex35.
Very nicely done, especially how you put most of it back together. Thank you!
Thanks for posting this how-to video...saved me a bunch of $$ not having to run to the shop. Fixed my 2008 Nissian Altima with ease. Broke a few plastic clips on the door, but everything else was pretty simple.
Invaluable video for showing us how to remove the panel to check on one of the Bose speakers that was not working in my son's 2009 G37. Turns out, it was not plugged in! Easy half hour fix that didn't cost us a dime. THANKS! (Small hint when snapping the door panel back in place: make sure the white tabs are in the PANEL and not the door. A few stuck in the door when we removed the panel and we did not realize it right away. The panel won't "snap" back into place if the tabs are in the door.)
Last week my auto lock stoped working on 2010 my G37. I bought the factory part on line from an Infiniti parts dealer for 300.00 and was worried on how to replace. Your video made the work easy. Thanks for posting this sir!
Your welcome.. Thanks for watching!
On my qx70 the outer door handle became unattached from the ball at the end of the cable. Pretty much zero info out there despite it being a common problem. Thankfull they used the same handle design across many (maybe all) of their cars 2014-2018, so this helped a ton. Once you know the proper procedure, it’s a breeze! I’m a mechanic, and rarely do I see door panels that are this non-self explanatory. Thanks a ton!
Glad it helped! That is why I made this video!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I was able to replace my door trim bezel due to this video! :-)
Steps were very similar for a 2011 Altima. Your step by step details made changing the actuator so much easier.
Man, thank you so much for posting this. Managed to install an aftermarket one on my g37. Got it working and saved me $100's. Funny, there are videos of other Nissan's saying all you have to do is push in a pin that pops out of the locking mechanism in order to fix it. Mine had no such pin...
Thank you for the kind words, and happy this video helped you! Thanks for watching!
Many comments are from years ago... information is still valid and extremely helpful! I had an actuator that totally failed, and I could not open the door from inside or out. So I had to take apart the inside of the door while shut, moved the seat wayyyyy back, pried the door panel toward me to undo the clips, then disconnected all the "stuff" so that I could pull out, then slide up, then pulled toward the rear of the car for the panel to come off (visualize those Lamborghini doors that slide up and out if that helps ya) don't forget the little plug for the door light.
I was then able to undo to inner metal panel in order to reach in and pull up on the locking mechanism to open the door.
The one part of this video that I wish I did not see, was where it was stated that perhaps one could use a bladder to hold the window up and skip its removal... I used duct tape to hold it up and that was a bad move. Wound up following the video instructions and removing the window, but bent my window track a little before realizing not removing the window was a bad idea. Just follow the steps!!!
If you are mechanically inclined, take your time, and do what Mr. fixyournissan does, you will be successful.
What I learned... do not skip taking the window out, as other have suggested.
Learn how to take apart the electrical connectors... they can be frustrating and perhaps fixyournissan will zoom in on that part in a future video to demonstrate how those various clips have different pressure points.
And lastly...
My door handle slide latch thingy where the door handle connects to the rod was totally corroded, and someone had previously worked on this thing (screws missing, corrosion, replacement screws used). If your car is older, you might want to purchase a door handle assembly along with the actuator just so you aren't like me and have to do this all over to replace it.
I can now open the door from the inside thanks to this video, but, it still will not open from the outside... Not the fault of fixyournissan, just something that is probably unusual.
Thank you for the post! This was an amazing tutorial that I watched many times, and referenced as I worked on my car.
You rock dude! I now know how to replace the inner thing that is still messed up, and can use my door with the window down a bit in public to get in and out without having to go in from passenger side and look like a fool : )
Liked and subbed of course and recommend everyone do the same!
Thank you, I'm a newb! Didn't realize dealer would be the ONLY place to get OEM parts, but it makes sense! Thanks again for the great video and the response.
So far the best video, everyone else cuts on the hard parts and skips over them through the process, thank you for this video
Thanks so much, your description is very helpful! It helped greatly. The window took me an extra hour but everything went back together, eventually.
I changed the actuator on a 2010 Altima based on your video. It was VERY helpful! Thanks!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
BRAVO SIR...
this was ENLIGHTENING!!!
SAVED ME HASSELS! GOD BLESS YA!
Thank you! This was so helpful changing out the the passenger side of a 2012 Nissan Maxima. You guys saved me hundreds in labor
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!!
Awesome vid! Doing mine in a few days and can't find the manual anywhere online! This is perfect! thanks!!
Thanks for making this brilliant video. I had a problem with the front passenger door lock on my 2007 Qashqai and after watching this several times I was able to fit a new one myself.
Glad my video helped you get the Job done! Thank you for the feedback and thanks for watching
Thanks for a very detailed video. Very helpful.
Great to see a master at work. I hope my mechanic can do it nearly as well and as fast. I'll let him know it's a 20-minute job. : o
Just because he can do in 20 mins doesn't mean hes gonna charge you for 20 mins bud!
You all need to learn how a shop works. They charge by what the manufacturer says it takes. If Nissan says it takes 1 hour to change this part I will charge 1 hour. Trust me it’s for the best if we started charging a job for the hours it takes you would be taken for a ride. Iv done jobs that call for only 1 hour of work and it ends up taking 6 hours because things are seized or won’t come apart. Would you like to pay for 6 hours of work for a simple job? This is why we use manufacturers recommended times.
some mechanics are faster than others, which is why we charge by the book.
Great detailed video...thank you sincerely!
Damn! One of the Best mechanics I have ever watched. Most guys are painfully slow. You are amazing!!👊
Appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching!
I’ve watched so many videos for this, thank you for being the only competent and good one lol
Thank you so much for your video. Followed your guidance to replace the lock assemble on my 2009 Nissan X-TRAIL. O was quoted £270 (pounds!) and instead did it myself with £30 worth of used part. Really appreciate it!!
Glad the video helped you get the job done! Thanks for watching
Excellent video, I am an ASE diesel mechanic, so I don't work on to many of these. LOL. It was spot on with limited exceptions for the door panel trim work. Thanks for a well shot video. I always like to see what's out here so I can get a heads up before I tear into something.
Thanks for watching! Yes, the door panels will vary depending models. But after the door panel, the steps are more or less the same.
Very informative, which after watching allowed me to successfully replace the actuator on my car. You allowed me to save a ton of money. Thanks!
Glad the video helped you!! Thanks for watching!
Yo we need more videos you are talented and very helpful
Thank you
Just want to say thank you so much!! I was able to follow this for a 2012 Nissan Murano. Very similar install. Thanks so much!
INFINITI QX 60 2014.... We searched for a similar video for a 2014 Infiniti QX 60, but could not find one specific to that model to change the front door handle. I happy to report is MUCH simpler than this video shows to change the door handle. We did not have to remove the door control panel as two of the 10mm screws were not hidden behind it. We also did not have to remove the window or ANY other parts inside the panel. We simply took out the three screws, popped of the door panel, disconnected the control panel, the door actuator lines (as shown in this video) and disconnected the lower panel light. With that, we were able to remove the door panel and with the window all of the way up, we could access the plugs for the wires on the door handle. We removed them from their "mounts" and disconnected them and removed the old handle as shown here. After slipping the wires from the new handle through and connecting them (and remounting them to the brackets the plugs were attached to) we reversed the process and installed the new door handle as shown. Me and a buddy only spent about an hour, pretty much flying blind, but we could do the job in 20 minutes now. Thankfully, relatively simple on the auto DIY scale compared to this origami project.
Glad you got this done. Sounds like you got this thing figured out!
Damn you're truly a pro. Great video and excellent concise information.
Thank you and thank you for watching!
Wow man,
I must say it's nice to watch this video and see that you have covered everything. You should be an auto-tech instructor for sure.
Great detailed video for this repair. Had to do it today.
Remember to double check the connectors before putting the panel completely back on. I forgot the window motor one and got to remove the panel again to fix.
Also be careful if you have memory seats, the plastic trim broke on mine around the buttons, so will have to try and replace that now.
Finally, if you are doing this because the door would not unlock/open, I have a suggestion for getting it open that I did not find on other videos. They all talk about using a probe to push or pull a tab down at the latch. I spent over a hour trying this on my 2013 g37x sedan. No luck. Honestly never found anything that I think would have worked that way.
My solution ended up being very simple and easy. When you loosen the top of the panel by removing the 3 10mm bolts and pop open the top part and remove the weather strip, you will have easy access to the handle/lock cables. Unhook the lock cable and pull the cable HARD with a pair of pliers. This will unlock the mechanism and allow the door to open. Then you can follow this video to repair.
I also went with a offbrand part from Amazon for 50 bucks since infiniti want 450 for the oem part. Usually I stick to oem, but not sure how much longer we'll keep this car. The part fit fine and was not noticeably different than the old one, so hopefully it will last at least a while.
Thanks for the great video! Very clear and straight to the point without long pauses and explaining every detail and history about the car. No worries on the video cutting off, thanks again.
Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for watching!
True professional! Thank for the great incite, tools needed and all the little tricks.
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great video on the nissan frontier there is one bolt on bottom that holds the window guide. Remove that bolt instead of pulling window. Came right out. Thanks for starting me on the right path
Awesome vid! Never knew how fast a pro works. I was just surfing on why my Nissan Sentra driver side auto door locks quit working. I guess the actuator will need replacing.
Fantastic video. Thank you for your assistance!
nice instructional video! didnt know it was burried under all that mechanism
Great video thanks! It’s clear, concise. Great help to fix the handle cable of my wife beloved G37x 2009
Thanks for the video. Saved me a lot of money by doing it myself. If ever in buffalo, n.y. Theres a cold one waiting for you.
Thanks for the Offer.. May take you up on that!! Thanks for watching!
thanks for this video. It helped me fixed the lock actuator on my 2011 Nissan sentra. I had no idea how to remove the handle and this video saved the day!! Thank you
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
DUDE! you are amazing! I watched it 10 times
Andrei Lozovik Thank you!
Andrei Lozovik Glad it worked out and helped you! Sorry you are going to have to do more now!!!...lol
Excellent Video strait forward no unnecessarily gabbing Best instructional video I have ever seen.
Thank you for the Kind words and Thank you for watching
thanks for the video. I just done the lubrication of my window mechanisms.
Well done demonstration & explanation. No fluff and straight to the point(s).
Thank you!
“Pull back, pull up” part saved my day.
Thank you.
Glad the info I shared helped out! Thanks for watching!
I'm having this problem now I'm sure this video will help me.. You're a beast at this! 💪💪
Thank you and Thanks for watching!
This was awesome. I was able to repair the door latch on my own. Your thr best!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you, you've excellent skill-set and the companion camera work is flawless! We've jammed the lock this morning, thinking it was likely a frozen mechanism; as it's minus 20 out there (5 am). However the temperature has risen to minus 12 and even the key can't open the driver's side door. We've been loving/driving a 2009 Nissan Altima sedan.
+Doe G This is normally when moisture gets into the latch and it freezes. So the latch assembly will need to be replaced and the steps should be almost identical to this video.
Very helpful! Had to replace the driver door actuator on my 2008 Altima Hybrid that has been working on and off for years and had finally trended toward not working at all. Only difference was that I didn't have to take the speaker off to get to the right side screw for the window. I don't have one of those pry tools to get the wire harness holder things off easily, so I took off the internal door panel then pinched them from behind with pliers. Took me around an hour to do while referencing this video. Thanks for the video!
Glad this video helped! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for a very thorough video.
Saved me hundreds of dollars thank you
great tips, used information here for my 08 altima - thanks
Great video. Thank you! I will use it replace my sticking door in winter.
Supporting your channel!!! Great video!
Thanks Z-speed! appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
And you made it look so easy......Thanks...2011 Nissan Maxima @ 135k (got it new) and driver side door has the "lazy lock" (it won't lock all the way unless i physically use they key or hit the latch...and it sounded louder then usual when locking...now i can get the part and do it my self
Thabks so much! My car handle got jammed and i had to take the entire thing apart, And bc of this video we could fix it ourself.
This detailed, no-nonsense video just saved me $100 in labor! Thank you so much!!!
Your welcome.. Thanks for watching my video!!

You saved me a fortune. Thank you for the very detailed and helpful demonstration!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Used your process for my 2005 RHD skyline 350gt drivers side door, very similar.
Yes, they are all using this style now, So it would be similar. Thanks for watching
Awesome video great step by step instructions made this repair a breeze, two thumbs up
Thank you and Thanks for Watching!
Just changed the driver's side window and wiring. Tks you so much for the video it helped a lot.

Great video saved me bundle Thanks
Perfect explanation of everything you need to do..period
Thank you for watching!
I got quoted $650 to do this. You’re a lifesaver man tysm.
You are very welcome!
Good job bro!
Thanks for the video. I used it on my 2005 Maxima 3.5SE. Almost the same process. Very easy to do. The magnet trick worked great! This video saved me money but also all the frustration associated with figuring it out myself. It also will work on a 2005 Altima 3.5 SL. Unfortunately the door lock actuators on those two cars are not the same. ....
Thanks for watching!!
This literally saved me hours ty so much man
Excellent video. Excellent mechanic.
Thank you for the kind words
WAWWWWW MAN VERY THANKSSSS, EASY AND PRACTICAL. AWESOME
Thanks for watching!
Big help, clear and to the point, appreciated. Was replacing window motor on my '07 Altima and happened to hear lock actuator whining....figured with the door already apart foolish not to spend the extra $35 and 20 mins to replace it. May not have taken the time w/o this vid, thanks.
You are very welcome!

Excellent instructional video. A little too involved for me. I think i'll just go old school and have a key made up.
Excellent video, right to the point, looks like you've done this many times before.
chuck luke Never done one of these before.... Yeah Right!! ...lol.. Thanks
THANK YOU! Save me from nightmare. Well done.

Great video! Thanks
Your welcome and Thanks for watching!
Ive had to take my GF's drivers door apart 10 plus times this video is a life saver
Thank you for watching. Glad this video helped!
Bless u man. Saved me a lot of money and time.
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! This video was PERFECT. I have a 2012 Nissan Altima, and the actuator broke for the second time in less than 2 years. Nissan charged me $400 to fix it the first time, and wanted even more now. Forget it. It was tricky getting everything apart since I couldn't open the door, but once I had the outer door panel off (removed it through the window) it wasn't so bad.
I never would have attempted this had I not found this video. Thanks!
You are very welcome Bill! Thanks for watching and good job getting the job done on your own!
@@FixyourNissan Well, since doing this the first time, I've replaced it a second time (plus the first time the dealer did it)... and now it's failing again. That's four times in less than 2 years.
Any idea why these would keep failing? I'm guessing moisture is getting in ... maybe a new seal around the door handle? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
@@billdykstra8058 If you are not getting parts from the dealer, that could be why. Aftermarket parts do not tend to last.
@@FixyourNissan The first one was from Nissan (and they did the repair). Lasted just a hair over a year. They wouldn't replace it because the warranty was 1 yr. Nuts to that. I bought an aftermarket with a 3yr warranty, so at least I'm only out the labour of fixing it. But agreed, it might not be the best quality part. I still think something is causing this though, so I'm replacing the seals around the handle and lock (Nissan has those available I found out after calling them).
Awesome video! Just got done replacing mine. Took me a little longer than 20 minutes though 😉
Good Job.. When you do it as many times as I have. You can get it done in 20 mins or so as well. But just doing it the first time can be confusing. Which is why I made this and Glad to hear it helped! I love the feedback. Thank you
Awesome and super detailed video thanks so much.
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Great video bro… very detailed!!
Thanks.
I feel like these parts go bad too soon on Nissans.
Thank you for watching. The more electrical parts in a car, the more things tend to fail if you ask me. Thanks again for watching
This video was a HUGE help. Bought my Maxima used and the lock rod had slipped off at some point. Definitely didn't take 20 minutes but probably saved me a hundred bucks.
Anyone else with a 7th gen Maxima, you don't need to remove the speaker to access the window screws. There's 2 stickers/holes for access to each screw. Also...you need to remove the window. Since I couldn't find a second hole to line up with the speaker hole, I tried to avoid removing the window and unscrewed the actuator from the door. It was such a pain to try and screw back on. I ended up having to take out the window anyway, screwing the regulator on the inner metal door panel, then install the window like I was supposed to. Added another hour to the job. So follow the video exactly, minus the speaker.
Hello there I have a Maxima too the problem with mine is that the doors won't open with the keyfog I replaced the batteries and still don't work I've been looking online and I found out it may be the door actuator.. Do you know anything about this problem?
@@javiervargas3461 all of the doors don't open with the fob? What about the trunk? Can you open them with the unlock button inside the car?
@@batvon39 all the doors or trunk won't open with the fob or lock. But they will manually inside the car. At first I thought it was the battery on the fob which I have 2 but then I replaced the batteries on both fobs and still don't work. Before all this happened I would have the fob inside my packet and the car would start without a problem now I have to put the fob where it goes inside the car to get it start.
@@javiervargas3461not sure where it's located but sounds like the antennae/receiver on the car for the fob isn't working. If you can't open the trunk with the fob either it probably doesn't have anything to do with the door locks. I'd do some research on that, maybe it's a relay or fuse that needs to be replaced or plugged in. Also try opening the trunk with the fob button on the trunk lid, I think I heard that one has a separate receiver.
@@javiervargas3461 also try leaving the key inside (like on the passenger seat) and see if the car continuously beeps when you open the door. It usually does that when it detects the key was left inside the vehicle.
Thanks you main man...great video...
Your welcome. Thanks for watching!
Excellent Video my Friend Thank you Very Much
this is an amazing video man. Thanks
