"Sound of Silence" - Marsh Family adaptation (on Braverman) of Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel's classic

- Yesterday it was described by one mainstream newspaper as "one of the most excruciating media clips to circulate in recent weeks" (www.indy100.com/politics/suel.... And that's saying a lot, if anyone's been following the media.
This song casts Alfie and Thomas, inevitably, as Simon & Garfunkel in a homage to their haunting classic "Sound of Silence" recorded in 1964 and - to our amazement as we discovered in researching it - originally titled "The Sounds of Silence" (which led to lots of arguments about which words to use). The rest of us support them with vocals, instruments (including some extra mandolin, violin, and cornet compared to the original). It pays tribute to the effective strategy of the protesters in Cambridge who refused to take the bait when offered, and used silence to humiliate an attempt by politician to exploit their actions for their own ends and headlines. Our followers will have met the politician in question before in our music...but this one's less of an earworm.

Being an Aussie, the guts of this story are completely unknown to me, however, through the talented harmonisation of two members of my favourite singing family, that was quickly rectified. Very well done to Alfie and Thomas, (with help from dad of course!) you two boys have such wonderful voices, and, in this instance especially, have done both the original story and the original song justice. I actually think your version of this song is better than the original - one for the next album maybe? Keep up the good work Marsh Family, bringing injustices to light through song parody is something the world could use a lot more of I think!

Can't go by without also mentioning the impeccable voices of Alfie and Thomas being very moving singing those lyrics and Ben and Danielle's voices perfectly complementing them in the background. Ella's and Tess contribution although only a few seconds, makes the point of them being there, a brilliant production all round. 'Bravo for the diss on Braverman.
