my late mother had a reduced pension for doing as told in the 70s and going on dad's pension. He die before he ever drew it, (who gets his NI contributions?) but my mother lost out financially for doing as she was advised to.

My country used to have mandatory service for boys and I have seen the faces of some of the ones that had been sent out to former Yugoslavia. Thank you. That was beautifully sung, as always - and I think the kids made perfectly clear why they had some sort of "kee-jerk-reaction" upon hearing the suggestions of a National service. As for the actual plans, they seem a bit hushed to me. We used to have that over here as a replacement for compulsory military service, when we still had this. And if was (mis-) used for years to cut the costs in the healthcare- and caretaking systems, and that was about it. What good it did, it did not in addition to a functional system, but actually by thining out the regular system. So I am, too, a bit sceptical with respect to this model. All the best. And pray these planse are never realised.

Brilliant. First I heard of that policy, Jimmy Rees (Australian comedian) did a skit about people voting Tory as “a joke” or to punish teens in their families. This is incredibly powerful. Your skill with parody songs always amazes me but this one… use of that song for this parody… I have no words.
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! As an over 80 year old girl - yes, one of those ‘grabbing pensioners’ - born in a war, lived through the difficult recovery time, loved by emotionally supportive parents with very basic income, enjoyed helping to build a better time to bring new people into the world, I am now feeling so sad that these new people are being overwhelmed by the negativity being forced on them. Can we not encourage positivity, spontaneity, a way of turning their minds towards a more fulfilling life for themselves and their descendants? In a country where it appears that the most important thing is making money and taking money away from others without thought for any consequences to others we should be thoroughly ashamed of ourselves. But it can be turned around but only if we turn our thinking around.

Its all of 12 weeks since the Spring Budget didn't mention an increase in tax threshold for over 60's - so that was a policy long in deliberation eh? And has no-one reminded you that we haven't taken to the streets like the French do because we WASPI's have worked an additional 6 years for our pension? My only consolation is when we die the home we have worked hard for will help them to get on the property ladder. it is the only way that “ordinary” people who have no other income can help their family. Brexit and the right wing of the Conservative Party have ruined any hope or even dreams for young people.

4:19 - this is particularly poignant for me. My Dad did do real service, in WW2 (he had just turned 16 when it started and joined the Navy as soon as he could). My mother was an evacuee from London. It's basically how they met. I have no doubt at all that if called on to defend their country the youth of today would match the bravery of my Dad's generation. There is no need to force them into it.

Its all of 12 weeks since the Spring Budget didn't mention an increase in tax threshold for over 60's - so that was a policy long in deliberation eh? And has no-one reminded you that we haven't taken to the streets like the French do because we WASPI's have worked an additional 6 years for our pension? BUT this is nothing compared to the trials and tribulations our young people have been through - our sons and daughters, grandsons and grandaughters - did you think you could bribe pensioners? We are wise to your ways by now - what we want is a chance of a decent future for ALL young people. Budget wisely. Support your country and its citizens. Yes, I'm talking to you politicians.....

Well written and sung as always, keep going. I’m almost 80 and I despair for my grandchildren. My only consolation is when we die the home we have worked hard for will help them to get on the property ladder. it is the only way that “ordinary” people who have no other income can help their family. Brexit and the right wing of the Conservative Party have ruined any hope or even dreams for young people.
Some of this is particularly haunting. The line when Ben and Danielle come on says it all to me.

Thankyou for singing for the world. We are told there is loads of employment and careers available, a shortage of workers, that young people don’t want to work. But we know it’s not true, everyone of all ages wants to work. Though yes there are still those who do not want to work.

4:19 - this is particularly poignant for me. My Dad did do real service, in WW2 (he had just turned 16 when it started and joined the Navy as soon as he could). My mother was an evacuee from London. It's basically how they met.
I have no doubt at all that if called on to defend their country the youth of today would match the bravery of my Dad's generation. There is no need to force them into it.
I totally agree. My parents were in exactly the same position as yours. They would have been completely horrified by this policy and as an over sixty so am I. Shame on the Tories for stooping so low assuming it may grab a few extra votes.
