Well done I know my brother-in-law made a ring for my sister using a silver quarter I think it was 1964 quarter because that was the year she was born? This was done over 35 years ago. He used a drill and a hammer to make the ring. He didn't have any press I know it took months to make. From the outside, You couldn't tell it was quarter but he still left the detail part of the detail of the quarter on the inside. She still wears it today. I know he worked hard to make it for her and I know she cherishes it over her wedding ring because he made it was not bought. Great video.
Or even an engagement ring. How cool if your significant other made you a ring! Anybody can go to a jewelry store and buy a ring depending on money. How many people said My hubby, lover, or significant other made me a ring. You would show it off to friends and family. If you have the money you could hire a jeweler to make you a one of a kind piece of jewelry But it still not as special as someone you know intimately cared enough to make it with his or her own hands.
Hi mate, just some tips, 1. Use emery cloth or some wet and dry for a nice surface finish, just cut a long but narrow strip 2. Use the auto feed if your lathe has that option and when dealing with smaller pieces use the rpm closest to your finishing diameter or preferably switch it on the final pass. 2.1 likely your lathe cant spin fast enough, you can usually get new gears for the lathe to better suit the softer materials. 3. If you're using steel wool for the color then heat up the work first to better surface the material as it helps the material stick faster. 4. Rather than a deburing tool you might get a nicer edge using a deburing bit (using a dremel) or just using a radius bit on the lathe if you can. 5. You did a really nice job with what you made and you have some great tools =)
Oh and you can use a soft wheel with emery cloth to get a nice finish and then use a buffing wheel with some polish to make it shine. A polishing wheel is amazing but it will show up every little imperfection that you rushed while sanding.
It was 10 hours of straight video editing! It is by far the most from any of my videos lol. I'm really trying to get my personality across better than I have in the past :) Thanks for noticing!
I'd maybe custom grind square face cut off tool for lathe, to be exact size of spinner ring, to go straight in the depth needed, vs back & forth with pointed finish bit. With intent to preserve coin details on either side of spinner. All in all, this is very cool process with all the dies I was not aware of. As an WWII aircraft restoration tech, even aluminum sheet has to be annealed to fabricate complex replacement cooling ductwork around the cylinder heads. Cheers.
i started crying when you erased the outside of the dollar at 8:17 : / it looked so cool with the lettering... don't get me wrong... the final ring looks awesome... but imho it was already a piece of art... yet, awesome craftsmanship... i wonder how much would you charge for a ring like the one at 6:49? nvm, just visited your website : ) amazing ... best regards from germany
Looked great when it came out of the sulphur bath the first time with the bluish silver finish. Would’ve been happy with that...even the “silver dollar” writing lined up on the outside of the ring. Could’ve believe when it was machined off...wtf?
OK, cool looking ring. But I don't see the point in using a silver coin for the base, if you're just going to mill-off all the distinguishing features when you cut the groove for the copper insert. Why not just make the base out of a bare chunk of silver, drilled & milled, and then inset the copper coin into that?
@@CoinRingsfromTheMint if you just use a bare chunk of silver drilled and milled. then it would be just another silver ring with a copper coin inset in it. in my opinion the detail on the inside makes it unique. others might agree.
fartwrangler What would be the point of fabricating the ring from scratch. The whole point of this hobby is to make jewelry out of semi precious coins. Turning one thing into another. With a high level of sophistication and craftsmanship. I could punch a hole in a coin right now or even grab a zinc washer and throw it on my finger. Is it even in the same ballpark? No.

That’s the whole point. This ring design just flows well. If the edges had designs it might have too much going on. And it’s a rare design because honestly, how many rings you know out there has designs on the inside?? Exactly. So it’s something you can show off a lil bit to friends and family and have them marvel at its design

8:20 You're turning, not milling. milling implies you're using a mill such as a Bridgeport. You're using a lathe so you're turning the stock, not milling it. Just letting you know as you're new to the machine, I do it for a living! Great Video!

Worry rings have been around forever. They are not even remotely a new thing and if anything the fidget spinner is based on a worry ring and not the other way around. Great video, I'll be checking out your rings for sure, I think you make it look easier than it actually is, loved the Star Wars film clip 😎
6:09 he DEFINITELY dropped the ring but cut it out lol
I didn't notice that the 1st time watching this for some reason 0-o
When he dropped it it actually made me jump back a little.
you can here him say "Oh!" too and thats was funny
Your walk through is very helpful cause half the guys I watch don't say anything just music and ring making. I like this
Dude, this coin ring is next level. Also, I disagree that the sausage in the mill was a bad decision. It had to be done.
Lol!
Putting your sausage in the lathe is the best way to learn.
It’s not a mill, it’s a lathe
awesome you talked about the abuse of children, they are desperately in need of help... HELP SAVE THE CHILDREN!!!
@MrSpaz57 well someone shit in your coffee this morning
so cool!! These would make for great wedding rings!
Ok, I saw the rest of your video's and I definitely like the detailed outer rings you have created.
Hi mate, just some tips,
1. Use emery cloth or some wet and dry for a nice surface finish, just cut a long but narrow strip
You have really stepped up you humor and video editing. Keep up the good work!
It was 10 hours of straight video editing! It is by far the most from any of my videos lol. I'm really trying to get my personality across better than I have in the past :) Thanks for noticing!
just don't over do it.... is my opinion...... but still, love your channel!!!
I love the concept, but personally i think it would have looked really nice with the coin visible on both sides, instead of just the inside
Ya once he polished off the outside of the Morgan dollar I was thinking 'Why use a coin if you are destroying the details of the coin?"
I agree. But I thought he is Canadian. He won't care.
Wow Corb4n you must have a deep sensitive affinity for coins. Cheer up k
Brian Greenwood but it wouldn’t be silver
Lol!
I like seeing the details on the inside and also knowing that there is history to the ring. That is better to me than a chunk of silver.
No.
I think he wants to show something special... Not the simply way that everyone can do... i have made a ring from a tube, looks good but nothing special and not to compare with the ring in the Video...
Mightkill Jacksome that’s because birds fucking would surprise yo dumb ass! Some people will run their mouth and show how stupid they are,, you are one of them!! is your mama as stupid as yo dumbass is??
Why are you turning over the whole ring instead of just turning the part for the inlay, this should look amazing too.
Excuse my English, I'm from germany
The wording would only be half there and I thought it would take away from the design.
But so, it looks like a silver ring with a coin ring inlay, you can't see, this are both coin rings if you wear the ring on your finger
Maybe you could try it and make a video of this
That was exactly what I wondered!
I think it keeps it interesting the way it is, not too busy
Absolutely amazing I had no idea how rings were made you a the Einstein of ring making
i love the little announcement you made at around 9 min mark and the chance to donate.. i think it is really sweet to keep a bit of humanity alive through your channel
That was pretty cool til 11:30, i mean why on Earth did u erase those pretty colorful details?
Ok, gotta admit at the end it turned to be a peace of art, yet u cudav saved those details instead of keeping them just inside z ring... That wudav made it more distinguished i guess..
Nice smith job after all..
Hi from Egypt 🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬
Literally read my mind when you talked about the quenching thing.
Clay Delavan
Mine too! I always allow silver (especially .900 coin silver) to cool to room temperature before quenching. But some folks don't...it's not like he's moving much metal though...it would be different if he was making sheet or wire.
rest in peace Canadian pennies..forever remembered
Pennies were British.
Both Canada and the U.S. used the cent, or 1/100 dollar.
take in if that penny was real he could have got like 100 dollars because they don't make those kinds anymore
@@DeathKiller7676 yeah totally...people who collects them now would prob pay millions
That one he had was in fantastic shape. They're worth at least $50-75, more if they have the 'H' stamp, which means they were minted in Britain.
@Rothhammer Each coin denomination has a name, 1 cent = penny, 5 cent = nickel, 10 cent = dime, 25 cent = quarter
Beautiful work. I love the way how rings are made. Step by step its so mesmerizing.
You Sir are one clever chap!
He's a reckless moron destroying historic coins that cannot be replaced!!!!!!
Great video, just one thing... As a Mechinest by trade. You said you milled the surface. In fact you turned the surface.
I needed a double take for that one.
Oh my god! It's the first video I 've ever seen by you! I'm sorry I'm from Germany 😂😂😂 There may be some failtures. I saw this video and shared it to all my friends! You guy... you are amazing! I do not know how to say it differently!
Amazingggg , I used to make rings the old way , but now there are all different tools at cheap prices , I just place an order them , time to make rings for the holidays.
You know what, I do believe my fiance had a ring made for me a couple of years ago from you. That two-piece ring is great
That's pretty cool!
@ 3:41 Aussie $10 note spotted on the wall 😜
Cool work BTW 😎 Subbed.
Colaaah yeah and its at the end of the vid as well
And a polish 100 old zloty note @ ua-cam.com/video/AuxfevP4Hao/v-deo.htmlm45s , used bout '75-'96, before denomination to PLN... :D
No one asked.
Keenly spotted.
@@jedminogue3368 haha, it is too. The very, very end noice...
why did you shave off the outer writing when creating the groove?
I know! I liked when he dipped it and it started to change colors, would have left it that way and not made it so dark
And maybe it's not practical, but I would have left the detail on the outside
Great use of clips!!
Love it!!
Destiny Rescue-gotta check that out!! 👍
Love it, that catchphrase "the mint change you can wear" it's and excellent start to video.
Thanks!
My smithing is only at Level 62. Can I still make one of these? ;-)
It probably says somewhere in the over 3000 comments but I'm asking anyways.....what's the purpose of the Teflon tape???
Av8tore71 to not damage the details
That is absolutely cool. Shows you don’t have to be a master machinist to make a masterpiece. Thirty five years in machine shops and I am unfamiliar with this procedure. Shows you can always learn something new. Keep on turning. I’m going to check out your website 👍
Why did you remove all the details in the edges of outside coin... U can keep that?...😭 😭😭😭
;-;
@@lukeskywalkerjediknight2125 I was thinking the same thing, could you have kept the outer rings design? The two look complimentary.
Raymond Petit i could
That’s the whole point. This ring design just flows well. If the edges had designs it might have too much going on. And it’s a rare design because honestly, how many rings you know out there has designs on the inside?? Exactly. So it’s something you can show off a lil bit to friends and family and have them marvel at its design
I am somewhat disappointed. I expected a tighter fit on that onest part. I maybe even expected it to become a tiny-ball-bearing-coin-ring
I'm not going to lie you told me a lot from watching your videos I'm going to buy some of them tools and I'm going to try it myself 😬I'mma start off with a quarter cuz I don't want to fuc up by gold coin lol
Why would anyone destroy an 1882 Morgan Dollar in excellent condition? Nooooooooooooooo!
@Walking Warzone woop. Give me ikea any day. Well said.
It's not destroyed
Hello, I have 2 coins from my childhood a silver monex and Irish copper coin. Can I send them to you to make a size 8 ring?
@Walking Warzone It has historical, originality, and authentication in it. I bet you never like history subject in your class.
Was wondering about that Canadian penny as well!!
Love your tool&working room! It looks like you have everything! And the ring is beautiful
Dude, I just went to a Destiny house in India and worked with a couple organizations out there (Dalit Freedom Network, Good Shepherd). I’m a pastor and have a woodworking channel here on UA-cam. We should talk or something...seems like a crazy coincidence that you mention them a couple weeks after I get back!
Right on! what is your channel?
Probably your name lol
8:20 You're turning, not milling. milling implies you're using a mill such as a Bridgeport. You're using a lathe so you're turning the stock, not milling it. Just letting you know as you're new to the machine, I do it for a living! Great Video!
your video is really funny... how a meticulous job could be fun ... thum
bs up
Oh man,, that was completely amazing, such beautiful workmanship. I just am so blown away by the creativity. Beautiful ring, and a fantastic video.
Thank you for the heart, best wishes
I love this ring...Beautiful work! Will you have them for women in size 6?
that was the most amazing thing i have ever seen
Get out more.
It would have been better IMO if your left the outer design of the inner coin.
Really Great video - that I just stumbled on to! Look forward to buying my very own from your website. Honestly I didn't realize the craftsmanship that went into creating a ring like this. Nice job!
Wow that was the epic bru tru genius and damn I can believe how jealous people are how can you not like this video I'm confused by the way you rock dude big time
Why did you cut off the detail on the silver that would have been the outside of the ring? Makes zero sense.
Would have been awesome if he could have had the serrated (or what would you call it?) edge on both sides.
that looks great I like content like this ….coz I suck at creativity lol
What gets me are the tools made to make the ring, and the master minds that said hey it can be done. Nice craft: easy to ship.
8:17 NOOO what are you doing? it was already beautiful.
I know, that part really hurt but I guess it wouldn't be so easy to just mill out the spinner channel? Actually both of them would have been nice looking rings on their own.
@@ARUCARDFTEPES people mill out the centre of rings on mandrels all the time, I don't know why he did it like that. Might aswell not used a coin for the interior of the ring
I would have stopped after getting the finish from the first dip of the XL gel
I liked the contrasting copper.
i love metals , i dont know about crafting though, but i like the ring and your're very talented, ...
this video was my first time seeing a video on ring making, and I am in awe of the whole process and I know I want to take this up as a hobby. I can imagine I'm going to need to spend a pretty penny or two before I can start using them to make rings haha
ℹ💗 How cool is that!!!! They came out so pretty. Thank you for showing us.
😌 Hopefully, those children will be won for Christ and end up in Heaven. Praise the Lord!
2017: fidget spinners
2018: fidget spinner rings
That’s exactly why I guarantee this video it’s gonna blowup this is the logic everyone’s going to think with when they hear “spinner rings” 😂
I have have a spinner ring for at least fifteen years give or take.
Worry rings have been around forever. They are not even remotely a new thing and if anything the fidget spinner is based on a worry ring and not the other way around. Though I actually think the design of a fidget spinner was based on something other than a worry ring. In any case the spinning ring came, at minimum, a few decades before the Fidget spinner.
**autistic screeching**
Unreal dude what a master 🤘🤘
I love your videos and adore your products!! I think I've watched all of them at least twice.
Me my kids and grandkids have all made rings with your instructions beginning with simple harbor freight tools. Looking forward to up grading to better ones. I've been coin collecting since the sixties, have hundreds/thousands of them and we plan to make each one into rings. That will be my family's way of putting them back into circulation. XO! Keep up the great work! Great big huge imaginary hug to you!
That is great! Thanks for letting me know the joy you guys are getting out if ring making :)
Am I the only one who wouldn't mind just wearing the first one before he added the second coin?
@change you can wear oh you still notice comments from even videos this old. Nice, now that I've got your attention I wanna say, I'm a huge fan of any and all art forms and crafts I see. I saw this first video and thought it was awesome and that I had never thought of making rings out of coins before. I first thought it was just something cool that you do but after listening to your commentary realized there's a whole community for it. Thanks for showing me something new to get my interests into 😃
Nice work. Love watching your video. :-)
Dude, I'm getting married in December. Any way I can order one of those as a wedding band for myself? I live in South Africa though. I'd be happy to pay shipping as well as whatever you charge for the ring
Congratulations!
Here's his website:

Peter Swarts congratulations
Nice but not something the average joe could make without all these specialised tools
Very nice. Wish you could have saved some detail on outer edge instead of being smooth. All the cool detail is on the inside. Don't know if possible but ring is beautiful as is. Thanks for videos.
Isn't it illegal to deform a coin?
Not as long as there isn't fraudulent intent.
I BELIEVE AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT TRYING TO MAKE IT A FAKE OF A DIFFERENT CURRENCY... LIKE A $20 DOLLAR BILL AND TRY TO MAKE IT A $100 DOLLAR BILL...
I BELIEVE THATS HOW THAT WORKS...
AS FAR AS MAKING A RING OR ANYTHING ELSE FOR THAT MATTER... WELL ITS YOURS! DO WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT WITH IT! BURN IT, MAKE A RING, WIPE YOUR DOGS ASS...
WHATEVER YOUR LITTLE HEART DESIRES Y’ALL!
